there was a report in the news paper about a decade ago about the poverty in georgia(somewhere like that anyway) and how thousands of humans were starving and did a seperate report on the dogs out there starving. at the end there was a donation number.

I think they recieved £22,000 in donations all for the animals, not one person sent money to the human donation line.

people seem to be often indifferent to other peoples problems because they beleive the person is somehow responsbile for whatever bad is happening to them while often when bad things happen to animals it is through no fault of their own, usually due to humans, and this pisses people off.

All life is precious, except that from some people at this board :)

I'm not talking in an individual sense. I mean humans in general. I also think PleasurePlays brings up a good point in that we are all desensitized to this kind of thing happening to people. You won't see that kind thing happening to animals on the news.

I don't think it's fair to say that, in my opinion when it comes to animals people NEED to speak on their behalf, because an animal obviously can't fight for justice. Like BlackCrayon said, many people view animals in the same regard as children: More or less innocent, defenseless and vulnerable. And as far as people complaining that Vick doesn't deserve too much prison time for what he chose to be involved with, I think that the penalties for animal cruelty need to be raised in most states and even Canada. Think of it this way.. it takes a "special" kind of person to be able to carry out these acts of cruelty against animals. People lacking compassion to that degree are probably equally capable of doing something similar to a human.

I value human life more.. but animals couldn't think and can't do something if someone will kill them. If only animals could talk, they can tell what's on their mind:(

the point is that people respond so strongly to a cat being killed, yet we can post dead bodies on here all day long and no one cares. in fact, people could even save lives and improve the lives of others if they "cared" but they don't.

people as a general rule are biased towards animals (cute animals anyway) over people... even children.

Norway to ban bestiality



OSLO, Norway, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- An updated Norwegian law protecting animals from physical abuse includes a ban on sex with animals.

Terje Riis-Johansen, minister of agriculture and food, said that the Animal Protection Act would make bestiality a punishable offense, Aftenposten reported.

Live Kleveland of the Animal Welfare Alliance said a survey of veterinarians found that 20 percent of them have strongly suspected sexual abuse of animals on at least one occasion. She said the practice, once known mainly on farms, has spread to pets.
