Halo 3 outsells every other entertainment release in history ! $170 Million first day

http://videogames.yahoo.com/news-532002

It's amazing seeing that one game can sell $170 in ONE day. You can imagine how much it's gonna make by the end of the holiday season.

The power of video gamers, gotta love it :)

Slick 09-26-2007 09:49 PM

Wooops, gotta correct myself, I said $170 above when it should've been $170 MILLION. I figured I'd correct it before someone else does and it's too late to edit.

gecko 09-26-2007 11:03 PM

Not really that surprised

Shey 09-26-2007 11:14 PM

I can't wait to play it, just finished Halo and Halo 2 AGAIN just to get in proper playing form (you know, callused thumbs).

Spunky 09-26-2007 11:15 PM

Jesus..that is insane and amazing

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 09-26-2007 11:27 PM

I wonder how much it cost to produce and market?

BTW, I rarely ever play video games...too busy creating porn... :pimp

I read somewhere that the video game industry is bigger than the music and movie industries combined...

if so, that is NUTS

CDSmith 09-27-2007 01:00 AM

Yup, nothing can touch the power of games these days. The movie Spiderman3 took a whole weekend to bring in $151 million, Halo 3 outstrips it in one day.

I guess it's the difference between watching a movie or actually playing the lead part in an interactive movie. Regular movies can't compare.

woj 09-27-2007 01:09 AM

daaaaaamn....

And it's going to get much, much worse for certain types of movies and TV shows when video game graphics rival that of actual real life footage. This could even go so far as to hurt the watching of pro sports.

What are we looking at here... Fifteen years or so before video games look close to real TV?

BAKO 09-27-2007 01:13 AM

I'm playing it now :)

PornMogul 09-27-2007 01:14 AM

Im gona go sign on right now

Once they more fully develop the virtual reality stuff people will eventually stop interacting with one another all together. :1orglaugh

Violetta 09-27-2007 05:32 AM

crazy... Im gonna get it!

djroof 09-27-2007 05:58 AM

crazy gamers!!!!!!!!!!

Matt_WildCash 09-27-2007 06:31 AM

Pretty amazing logging onto Halo3 Xbox live and seeing 680,000 people live playing Halo3 at that very moment online or with friends, or in combit with each other.

Thats the size of my entire city, every single person in my city playing Halo3 at the same time.

WOW

Gears of war was far better in my book, but the Halo3 game is still good. Like Halo 1 feel with far better grahpics, I never liked Halo2's graphics engine.

I dont get HALO hype... it never stood out from any other FPS game i've played.. its the same old shit. Got bored after playing the second one a for an hour or two and never wanted to touch it again. Dont know much about 3, but it looks about the same from what I've seen. :2 cents:

Well let's see average movie ticket price $8, Halo 3 price $60.

I've enver played any version of Halo and don't have any desire too. I don't care for WoW or any of that other type shit either. I guess I'm to old to "get it".

I don't think that's a fair compairson since Halo 3 was available to " Pre Order " over several months. If that stat means it did $170 milllion in NEW sales on it's first day that would be one thing but if they are counting new and pre order sales I don't see how you could compare that to a movie release on it's opening day

... or the difference between a $10 price tag and a $70 price tag :winkwink:

fuzebox 09-27-2007 08:18 AM

I never got the hype. I played Halo 1 when I got my Xbox and was instantly bored... I'd rate at least 10-15 other FPS games above it.

Now that the series is bringing in record numbers I'm baffled.

which is dirt cheap compared to what it costs to market a Hollywood blockbuster movie.

:helpme:helpme:error:error

it doesn't change the fact that people are still giving up $70.

it's dollar value that they are comparing...not units.

if Halo 3 sold for $10 but was counted as $70 then you'd have an argument on your hand.

The point is, the money these days is in game production.

mikesinner 09-28-2007 04:15 PM

Isn't there supposed to be a Halo movie coming out?

The difference between Halo and other FPS to me is that Halo is on the Xbox and has a huge online muliplayer platform. I love games like counter strike but it's nice to chill in your living room and play online or with friends. Especially since we spend so much time at our computers already.

GAMEFINEST 09-28-2007 04:37 PM

that is good news

Godsmack 09-28-2007 04:48 PM

yeah, no shit at 60 euros!

First of all not all games make money. Just like movies you have a bunch of stinkers out there.

Secondly a movie like Spiderman 3 or Transformers also makes money on the video game, DVD, PPV and cable rights, toys, product tie ins etc etc.

Halo 3 has cable Tv and PPV rights? Halo 3 is coming out on DVD?
Please list me some product tie-ins for Halo 3? I don't see McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's or anyone promoting Halo 3. I don't see any Halo 3 chips cereal or anything.
