End Of The World - Mayan Calender

Mayan "for those who don't know" where the most advance civilization ever, they lived in Mexico and were very short lil fuckers (tall one was 4.5 feet) The Mayan build this calender that plotted out all the major solar system events ---> check out this video and be prepared to know when your gonna die.

Interesting vid, but isn't it supposed to be Dec 21 2012, not Dec 23?

Terrence McKenna's Timewave Zero arrives at the same date too, and most recently, the Cross of Hendaye in France....

This movie looks good too http://www.2012theodyssey.com/

I, at the very least, find it a bit strange that even on the U.S. Naval Observatory website, it lists the winter solstice as Dec 21 2012 at 11:11 am...:upsidedow

Shok 07-30-2007 04:08 PM

2012 is when the giant space cock bukkakies us into oblivion

Jace 07-30-2007 04:11 PM

it is the end of TIME, not the end of the world

who 07-30-2007 04:14 PM

I think it means we all start getting young again. Well, Oprah told me that..

It could be true..

I just hope we all die and I've performed all my sexual dreams beforehand.

KimJI 07-30-2007 04:32 PM

When you die, can I have your domains then?

Yes you can. Unless you're dead too.

Nightwind 07-30-2007 04:45 PM

They were also afraid of eclipses.

notabook 07-30-2007 05:17 PM

Legend has it that the Mayans also predicted the rise of Godzilla.

D 07-30-2007 05:31 PM

They were pretty bright for their time, but I wouldn't call them "the most advance civilization ever"...

that's a bit of a stretch.

halfpint 07-30-2007 05:48 PM

Yeah Interesting I saw this about a year ago, on tv..Oh well at least we can see the olympics in the uk before we all die:) and i got a few years of fucking the misses to..better get to it..im wasting time

Seriously it is interesting to know that we are all doomed:Oh crap

bhutocracy 07-30-2007 06:02 PM

Most advanced civilisation ever?? What did they have? pottery.. a corn god and human sacrifice..
They were advanced for their time but it's hard to have much respect for a people that had a thunder god.. one for Doritos.. and had to sacrifice people so that they got a good harvest.. seriously.

Matt 26z 07-30-2007 06:09 PM

Does their calender literally say that it means the end of the world, or is that just when their calender ends? All calenders must end at some date.

Well lets see, I've heard thunder, so I know it exists, so I'd be more like to believe in a thunder God than the God stupid Christians believe in.

Sacrificing people for a harvest seems better than the people we sacrifice each day in Iraq for absolutely no reason.

Without a trace?

Really?

hmmm

Wiki
"The Maya peoples never disappeared, neither at the time of the Classic period decline nor with the arrival of the Spanish conquistadores and the subsequent Spanish colonization of the Americas. Today, the Maya and their descendants form sizable populations throughout the Maya area and maintain a distinctive set of traditions and beliefs that are the result of the merger of pre-Columbian and post-Conquest ideologies (and structured by the almost total adoption of Roman Catholicism)."

And there's been human sacrifice to Gods for favours in almost every religion, Romans, Greeks, Mayans, etc...

You gotta hand it to them tho, for a culture without the concept of a wheel, they accomplished a lot.. I mean, we're still debating them 100's of years later...

halfpint 07-30-2007 06:21 PM

They say that Mayan calander is one of the most accurate, because of the dates they have predicticted coinsides with cosmic alignments of the sun and blah blah which only happens once every 23,000 years or something like that any way, and all of the eclipses they predicted were accurate..blah blah..I cant remeber the rest..lol

BusterBunny 07-30-2007 06:23 PM

the spanish and disease had alot to do with their demise but it was mostly their own doing....they liked limestone for their temples they deforested their lands for firewood to cook the shit up to make them...that lead to the land going to shit kinda like the dustbowl era in the us where the farmers raped the land so hard shit wouldnt grow anymore:2 cents:

Sure if you were ignorant and primitive enough to require a supernatural explanation.

Vacuous. Even though it's silly point scoring it does need to be dignified with a reply - energy security over the next two decades is going to be one of our very highest priorities. It is well worth the sacrifice, even though it could have been handled 100 times better.

k0nr4d 07-30-2007 07:02 PM

hrmmm
my calender ends in december 2007.

edit: wait its ok, theres a tiny 2008 calender on the back of the last page

It's obvious they had a very different concept of sacrifice than we do.

And what do we do to our god? We eat his flesh and drink his blood every Sunday, don't we? What would the Mayans think of us and our belief system?

Scootermuze 07-30-2007 07:19 PM

Those crazy little Mayan conspiracy theorists.. ya gotta love em.. :)

OMG - I am rolling. Friggin hilarious.

On a serious note - has anyone seen the History Channel special on this? and how it correlates exactly with the Chinese I-Ching?

heading to the store to buy baby food, protein shakes, batteries, transistor radio, rifles, couple of gats and 3000 gallons of water...

Juilan 07-30-2007 08:41 PM

They predicted a solstice and 2 very unique cosmic events astronomers say are supposed to happen then. These are the dipping of earth below the galactic plane and an unusually overactive sunspot flare up. However amazing and cool it is that these dudes could guess it with out advanced technology, I'd like to see where the Mayans are the source for this whole Apocalypse idea. This "Apocalypse" is based on false interpretations fabricated for book selling profits. :2 cents:

Do you? Don't include "we" in anything. What makes you think I hold any of the primitive superstitions over another? What makes you think I hold eating a wafer that symbolises a dead jew any less ridiculous than praying to a corn god?
The fact that we still have a proportion of people adhering to ignorant myths doesn't change the fact that thats all the mayans had

Funny, the peak of the sun's emissions activity collaberates perfectly with our "global warming" cycle... just like it always has in the past (and it's brought disasters in the past when it happened too). Something to think about :P
