What planet is Live Earth supposed to be saving?

Way to go Al Gore, let's make the planet a worse place to live in, thanks to the pollution caused by your Live Earth bullshit.

Quote:

The most conservative assessment of the flights being taken by its superstars is that they are flying an extraordinary 222,623.63 miles between them to get to the various concerts - nearly nine times the circumference of the world. The true environmental cost, as they transport their technicians, dancers and support staff, is likely to be far higher.

The total carbon footprint of the event, taking into account the artists' and spectators' travel to the concert, and the energy consumption on the day, is likely to be at least 31,500 tonnes of carbon emissions, according to John Buckley of Carbonfootprint.com, who specialises in such calculations.

Throw in the television audience and it comes to a staggering 74,500 tonnes. In comparison, the average Briton produces ten tonnes in a year.

The concert will also generate some 1,025 tonnes of waste at the concert stadiums - much of which will go directly into landfill sites.

The forget to mention that they compensate by planting new forests and other
stuff as counter balance with as end result the whole event will be environmental neutral......

mikeyddddd 07-07-2007 09:36 AM

If the concerts raises awareness in England enough to cause a reduction of .1 tonnes (just 1%) per average Briton, based on a population of 52M, then it would save 520000 tonnes EACH YEAR.

Don't you think that may be worthwhile?

So true ...

If you would listen to them, well to save power and so on, we should shutdown congress ... and let the king spread his wisdom ...

... and democrat webmasters should shut down their sites to save power ...

All power consumed by the event is produced by non fosile fuels. They only
use green power generated from water, wind, sun or bio-mass

Kevsh 07-07-2007 09:47 AM

I guess the solution would be for the performers to canoe between continents, use candles to light the stage and play on acoustic guitars?

How about saving the disdain for GWB and his administration for stonewalling UN attempts to reduce worldwide emissions? His concerns that India and China's non-involvement will hurt US business. That's right, keeping your golfing buddies happy is more important than saving the world...

I find it funny when either republicans or democrats are so full of hate for the other side they can't see that it's something being done to help us all. They just naturally assume that the other side is up to no good and that's not always the case.

first of all, thats a nice piece of propaganda you got there.

second... keep thinking inside the box.

Nothing is going to get done without changes in policies, and tons of money getting pumped into developing new technologies.

We drive cars that pollute, because thats whats being sold to us, and thats the technology we have.

Watched a great show on Discovery HD yesterday...Small Planet Big Ideas.

It is amazing the amount of money you can save over the lifetime of your house if you were just to build it "green."

What people fail to see, just like anything that is preventative. You have to spend the money now when it seems like there is no real need, in order to keep from having to spend 10x's as much when things get out of whack...or to save 10x's as much because you use less over your lifetime.

Hey if they wanted to clean up the planet from pollutants because they wanted to make it pretty that would be one thing, I could respect that. I keep my place clean and I don't trash anything, but these people want to change the laws on how I live and want to stop production of capitalism to save the planet from something it doesn't need saving from. (Just like you don't want religious people changing the industry on their beliefs of porn that are not true, Green people want to change our lives for their beliefs.) Do you know the fire in south Lake Tahoe last month, was worse because of environmentalist making a law that people couldn't pick up the fucking pine needles in their yards. One man did it anyway, and his house was left standing. Fucking amazing how they enforce and push their shit on people because of their beliefs and then turn around and tell other people not to push beliefs on them.

And please you cannot be this egotistical to think that man can save the planet when the volcanoes she spews are way more pollutant than all the cars and planes put together. And let's not forget the fact that the temperature of this earth has changed since it was formed in that mass explosion a few million years ago. Let's see she went from hot to frozen then melted the ice and is warm and getting a little warmer and probably will get warmer before she turns around and freezes again. And guess what else, all the continents where once attached and they moved. OH MY!!!! The earth changes!!! AND guess what THERE WHERE NO FUCKING CARS OR PLANES AROUND TO CAUSE THIS DEVISATION OF CHANGE! :1orglaugh

The sin is any clear cutting, development that people don't like, destroying wetlands, those are the sins. They have something to keep everyone in line, and that is the apocalypse, the last days, the day when hellfire and damnation will fall upon all of us who have sinned. They are always saying we have 10 years, everyone is doomed!!!

There's an initial Eden, a paradise, a state of grace and unity with nature, there's a fall from grace into a state of pollution as a result of eating from the tree of knowledge, and as a result of our actions there is a judgment day coming for us all. We are all energy sinners, doomed to die, unless we seek salvation, which is now called sustainability. Sustainability is salvation in the church of the environment. Just as organic food is its communion, that pesticide-free wafer that the right people with the right beliefs, imbibe. Eden, the fall of man, the loss of grace, the coming doomsday---these are deeply held mythic structures.

Keep the planet clean YES but don't get fucking ridiculous about it and fall for all this hype. Gore is a freak trying to control people through fear. I bet if he walked on stage and said I am going to control everyone with this, people wouldn't care. He is the high priest! :1orglaugh

I don't believe in religion or this green shit, so I am an outsider looking in and I see the same shit, different story going on. :1orglaugh

Like I said, keep the planet clean! YES! But why is it always on America?s head? Hmmm? Have you seen some of the shit in China and Russia? The rivers and factories? Oh wait I forgot China is more dirty and now "they" want US tax payers to pay to clean them up! WTF? I tell ya, no other country is going to defeat us, the wackos in this country are the ones who are going to take us down. LOL

See my post above.

It's not ON America's head - the G8 countries ALL signed to the Global Emissions treaty while America was the ONLY one holding out, saying "Hey what about China and India?". The reason? Fear U.S. big business would suffer. Enough said.

Anyone using logic would know "carbon offsetting" is a bullshit. Reducing emissions is good. But keeping them the same and planting a few trees wont do shit.

Short term sacrifices are sometimes necessary for long term benefits..

Whether global warming is a hoax or not, name one thing that Gore suggests we do to make things better that is a bad thing..

I wonder how the schools with teach our great grandchildren insofar as explaining how the world became such a mess...

As my dad says now..."I used to be a rich republican, now I am a poor democrat."

Back when he was a bible thumping, religious right republican, he would see those "save the whale" stickers...this was back in the 80's...LOL.

And he would say something along the lines of..."why save whales?"

One day after hearing this one too many times I just said to him, "why NOT save whales?"

It's not propaganda if it's the truth. And honestly, I don't give a shit about global warming or your opinion. What I do give a shit about is Al Gore being a "do as I say not as I do" enviro-douchebag. :) Now if that makes me a moron, so be it, but by the time this planet self destructs, I'll be dead and it won't make a fucks difference to me. =)

Oh Okay by bad, yeah saving "US" by making "US" unable to be as productive as we can and making "US" unable to expand and grow because we can't fly and we wipe our ass with one sheet of toilet paper, and drive cars the size of a thimbles so you feel better. Yes, but take into account the US makes up about 5% of the world's population, whereas China makes up about 31% and they are just now overtaking us.

You too! :winkwink: I DO NOT BUY INTO THIS HYPE! I don't believe in this crap! ¡No creo en este crap! Ich glaube nicht an diesen Misten! Non credo in questo crap! So why should we hurt our system, our productions, and our people from growing? and yes what about China and India, they are #1 in this so called mess now, and the green people want us to pay for it!

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg...NG1QQR9RO1.DTL

"proposed a multibillion-dollar, multinational fund with a "major U.S. contribution" that would give loans and grants for construction of low-emission power plants in China"

Like I posted above, this green shit (people who think they can stop the planet from changing) is bullshit. Why should we hurt our country for hype and fear that in 10 years, or less, is going to go out like the fad it is, just like it did in the 60's. (but only then it was global cooling :1orglaugh )

NOW DO NOT GET ME WRONG! I COMPLETELY SUPPORT KEEPING OUR PLANET CLEAN!!! I want animals to have a clean place to live, and I want our neighborhoods to be clean, and our oceans, and there are ways to do this without stopping the production of "US". This Al Gore stuff IS OFF THE DEEP END. He is taking it TOO FAR!
