Personally I prefer Japanese food. Chinese food is too sloppy and slimy for my tastes.

All though I had some killer duck in China. But in general, Japonese and Sapporo beer for me.

Japanese for me too though I do like Szechuan (Sichuan) and Cantonese food.

Redshoe, that would be a sort of "tilted" view of things.

I enjoy both, but they are of a different background. Daily japanese cooking is the food of the rich, the food of abundance and plenty. Cantonese Chinese cooking (hong kong style) is about half/half, and is more what you see in typical chinese restaurants in the US and Canada... "Cantonese style".

Finally, there is mainland "mandarin style" cooking, which varies greatly from area to area. Remember, China is HUGE, so one type of chinese cooking doesn't clearly represent the country any more than crawfish is a clear indication of American cooking (or poutine for Canada).

So your question is a wee bit slanted... but carry on.

Then you've never had real Japanese. Tony, I offer you an invite. The next time you and Mandy are out this way, I'll by you a Japanese dinner. We'll go into Little tokyo in downtown LA. I'll re-introduce you to it proper. If after that, you still prefer Chinese then I'll at least know you were able to compare nasty chinese to real Japanese.

SAshimi. Good try though. That's what I had tonight that led me to start this thread. NOTHING beats, some yellow tail, tuna, salmon, and some unagi.

I've been eating stomach churning chinese food all fucking month and tonight I finally got some Japanese. I have Chinese only one month out of the year, and during that month it's like 3 - 4 times a week. :throwup

And no I don't know how many chinese dishes exist. But on the same note, I can honestly say I don't know the exact number of dishes that exist for any race of people. I'm a capitalist pig american and I couldn't tell you how many american dishes there are.

I guess that shows how much you've travelled and experienced.

I've eaten all over Los Angeles. From Downtown to the Valley, all the way into Simi Valley and even Riverside.

Im highly recommending Japan or China. Simi Valley sounds like a great place for wine testing.

Fuck, I'm hungry for Chinese food now.

I make probably the best Nori Rolls in the known universe.. but Yum Cha just owns.

I can't go to Sydney without seriously buying a suitcase at one of those discount shops to bring several hundred dollars worth of Bodhis yum cha back on the plane as carry-on lol. I've done it the last two times.
