How did Starbucks get so huge so fast?
Can anybody tell me? And now they're launching a music label.

Location and yuppies
|
that's crazy
|
By charging $4.00 for a cup of coffee.
|
By fooling us all into thinking that VENTI was better than LARGE.
|
They just bought a chain of stores in Portland called "Coffee People." I preferred Coffee People's stuff over Starbucks. Now they have shut down all the Coffee People locations. Nothing but empty building there now.
Shitty thing to do, IMO. |
Starbucks created a lifestyle.

i didn't like starbucks for years. I caved and bought into it. Now it's like a strange comfort thing. It's like i can be in almost ANY place and get my fix the exact way and style i'm used to. Not to say I don't hit up a cafe other places... but in the morning when I NEEEED the fix I don't mess around if I have the choice.

I think they got in right when the seattle sound was big. it was kind of a place for everyone into grunge to chill. sort of like a gen x hangout. Then it just took off from there. Then you would always see celebs being shot by the paparazi with a starbucks coffee in their hand, and by chance the label was showing etc. Just was one of those companies that got in at the right time. Sort of like those old paysites with those shit tours that were doing 1000 joins a day back in 98.

I have to say, after reading the article, it is a pretty smart move.
I have purchased more CD's and books at Starbucks in the last year or two than everywhere else combined. |

They also have the chain store advantage that they are everywhere and you know that you will get the same cup of coffee in one store that you will in another. You don't have to risk getting a crappy cup of coffee flavored drek at a non-chain store.

As I travel around the country I find myself in many places that don't have a Starbucks, or the one that is within a 50 mile radius is in some Border's Bookstore or something. While they may have been given the recipe, they certainly have not been given the training, and there is a definite difference between the one I get here in LA and the ones I pick up in OK or IN. |
Fast?? They've been around for quite some time.
Rappers put out one album then start a music company... |
