looks like that might not be such a huge draw now that he got KTFO. I wouldnt mind seeing Henderson v Liddell though :)

Lance69 02-24-2007 10:31 PM

DUDE!!!! Trigg Solid
Gomi was a fuckin coward for trying to gt the ref to stop the fight as he was getting pummeled.
Nogeira got soooo served! Big upset by Sokoudjou.
Shogun was wicked as usual.

And Dan Henderson new Middleweight champ after KO'ing the Axe murderer!

WOW!

Anthony 02-24-2007 10:32 PM

It was a night of upsets.

Worth every penny.

The card turned out to be very good.

Pride's Production and Marketing in the US still lacks.

Please get rid of that ugly ass skank announcer.

No bullshit man. I literally have to mute the volume everytime that bitch starts talking just so that I won't string up a noose and hang myself by the time she's done. SFA = So Fucking Annoying!

Great action though.

PRIDE's Production is the best in the business.

The word will get out about how much better of a Production PRIDE is vs UFC.

As for the announcer, she's been a part of PRIDE for six or more years now, and isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I've noticed noob fans have a problem with her. She is just as much a part of PRIDE FC, as Buffer is for the UFC.

Pleasurepays 02-24-2007 11:03 PM

this thread needs Pride Girls!

Couldn't agree more. I love the enthusiasm she has!
They could use better PR maybe, but the production value is very good IMO. They really make it about the fighters. :thumbsup

I gotta check BT for this tomorrow and see what a Pride event on US soil looks like. Based on the earlier ones I saw snippets of, no one except a "trying to show you all how serious *I* am about MMA as opposed to all you Johnny come latelies" type person could say that Pride's production values could hold a candle to the UFC.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 02-25-2007 12:15 AM

all in all not a bad ppv. silva and henderson was an amazing fight, as was nick diaz's pride debut (incredible submission in my opinion. the henderson vs silva bout was a hell of a fight, I wasn't sure which way it was going to go until henderson layed out wonderlei. it wasn't really the way i thought it would turn out. wonderlei got fucked clocked! most of the other fights were ok, sokoudjou had a fuck of a ko...

oh, and for the record..... i hope there come a day when i can here that pride bitch creaming QUUIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNN-TONNNNNNNNNN JACKSONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

how could you hate her? i love the intros...

Martin3 02-25-2007 12:40 AM

It was a good event. I always felt Gomi was a little over rated, but didn't expected Diaz to win or dominate like that. 160 seems to be a great weight for Diaz.

In a way I'm kind of glad Silva lost, this will finally give Rua the chance to step up.

I don't understand what you are trying to say.

Are you saying UFC has a better production than PRIDE FC?

This has never been the case, ever.

UFC got rid of trying to be PRIDE FC sometime ago.

That was the first thing that came out of my mouth when Dan won. Shogun can now go for the belt, which he couldn't due to Wandy holding it.

Shogun is as complete fighter you can find now.

Pride's production is infinitely better than the UFC's. The closest I can remember UFC trying to do anything near a Pride ring entrance was the BIZARRE video package they put together for Chuck Liddell the first time he fought Randy Couture, which was just awful. I really hope Pride's financial problems are much ado about nothing and they either get a new tv deal in Japan or a buyer that is not Dana White.

I remember that like it was yesterday. Those Tapout weirdos getting on the big screens announcing his entrance. It was shit.

It was ripoff of what PRIDE did with I believe it was Grand Prix 2000 with the huge white ball, announcing the fighters participating.

PRIDE is going to gain serious ground in the USA. Listen to the difference between the Redneck idiots that frequent the UFC booing when it goes to the ground, vs those in attendance tonight at PRIDE. It was night and day.

I especially enjoyed the intros they were throwing up.

THE CAGE IS YOUR WORLD.

PRIDE IS THE UNIVERSE!

:)

Anthony 02-25-2007 01:27 AM

Hey Lance,

How crazy was that gogoplata Nick threw up on Gomi?

It was so smooth, it almost looked rehearsed!

I noticed that at the first Pride US PPV also. It's really strange how the fans in attendance emulate the Japanese fans to a much larger degree and are a lot more respectful of the fighters, and seem to be more knowledgeable. But most US fans know nothing of Pride so you end up with a lot more true MMA fans in attendance.

I have always been more of a Pride guy than UFC, although I still love the UFC. I really just want both companies to be successful so the fighters have more options and get paid more. I helped promote an MMA show in Cleveland in '99 and if I told you what most of the fighters were paid you would puke.

perfect analogy. Buffer's delivery is equally as forced and on par as annoying. Fuck it, as long as the fighting and the matchups are good, that's all that matters

Bro,

For the smaller shows, the pay is still abysmal. :(

I am with you though. I want UFC, PRIDE, BODOG, and all the major circuits to get bigger, and start working on unifying belts!

I couldn't believe how slick it was, he was going for it before Gomi even finished getting to the ground! GOtta be a contender for submission of the year IMO.
I can't wait to get back in the ring! As soon as I finish getting these paysites up and running I'm gonna get back into my passion. In fact I have 2 local shows to go to next month, as a fan. One in Chiliwack, BC and another in Mount Veronon, WA.

Didn't you just fight Anthony? Or are going to?

Oh on another note bro can you check out www.fightfriends.com and hit me on ICQ? I'd like your honest opinion on it. (The Premise, the design is gonna come soon.) What is your MMA site again?
Oh and here's a cool oldie highlight vid for kickboxing fans. This is a local event, some of the best fights I've seen we're not PPV! Live rocks!
Knockout.

Wicked dude, I like the no contest rule for elbow cuts. Train hard fight with honour and hold your head high regardless of the outcome.

Oh and I had DB issues today with fightfriends so if you signed up it may not be there anymore.
I'm gonna start hitting those other places too. Thanks.

No I just didn't see this thread, :Oh crap

I did like the silva vs hendo fight though. The gomi one was exciting but obvously gomi wasn't prepared and looked sick. He gassed out 3mins in. Quite a few upsets though.

Personally I thought it was extremely cowardly of Gomi to signal the ref about Diaz' eye as he was getting pummelled. I lost a lot of respect for him.
Nog getting KO'd was a huge upset, and the Hendo Silva fight was wicked and not at all what I was expecting.
Overall I just think all that alone was worth the price. I was very surprised to see how few people were there for the first fight, I guess that's why the UFC puts the prelim matches at the end if there's time.

I heard Pride was giving away free tickets at the gate to try and fill the stadium.
Their first show in the US didn't go so well, could be the reason, or maybe with the UFC being next weekend people that had to travel to Vegas stayed home.

Hopefully their next show draws a bigger crowd.
