what movies scare you?

ok so im sitting at home alone last nite drinking and eating bagel bites, watching The Mothman Prophecies.... now... i dont normally scare easy when its a movie, but i will admit that movie scared the living fuck out of me a number of times. Mostly in the middle... the beginning & end were typical hollywood bullshit, but the movie was good overall... i dunno if it was the fact i was alone or half drunk or what but i actually got chills quite a lot....

so what movies scare the shit out of you, and why? im not talking about friday the 13th part 374, i mean REAL scary movies...

Fletch XXX 08-04-2002 12:04 PM

I listened to a 6 hour phone call between the writer and Art Bell... and the team who is down there, havent seen the movie though, is it good?

sexyclicks 08-04-2002 12:06 PM

Its a nice movie go for it

kosmic 08-04-2002 12:08 PM

the 13th ghost was a pretty cool scary movie/ had me jump a few times.

B40 08-04-2002 12:09 PM

We rented a DVD awhile ago that was a compilation of horror movies. I think it was called Bogeyman, we got it from Blockbuster.

The older ones are just funny, but some of them are scary.

Gutterboy 08-04-2002 12:15 PM

Saw Salems Lot when I was 10. Slept with my lights on for a year!

hatebreed 08-04-2002 12:19 PM

Here's 2 movies that scared me:

Death of a Salesman - With Dustin Hoffmann and John Malkovic
Bladerunner - With Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer

Excellent & scary at the same time.

^R3K^ 08-04-2002 12:23 PM

Thelma and Louise

Steel magnolias

Yeah... anything with Richard Gere scares the fuck out of me.

Alky 08-04-2002 12:26 PM

death of a salesman was just strange, not a scary movie.

Morgan 08-04-2002 12:55 PM

debbie does dallas and green mile scare me the most.

Rex 08-04-2002 01:01 PM

Mothman scared me for sure, also I Am Sam scared the hell out of me........

Cheshire 08-04-2002 01:04 PM

For some reason Candyman had me watching between my fingers, and I literally jumped out of my seat at one point.

I'm the girl you always hear in the theater screaming bloody murder when the cat jumps out of the dark at those really suspensful points in the movie.

Captain P 08-04-2002 01:12 PM

Cool Thread :thumbsup

Prince of Darkness scared the shit out of me. It was kinda cheesy but there was something about the idea of satans father coming back to kill us all that freaked me out.

Serpant and the Rainbow was just freaky on so many levels.

New "scary" movies really don't do it for me... but I think Signs is gonna be pretty spooky.

Arousal Design 08-04-2002 01:19 PM

Well,

The Devils Advocate scared me even though it wasnt necessarily a scary movie it had its moments.

Movies like Fire in the Sky also freaked me out.

Its hard for a movie to scare me it has to have some realistic elements to it to give me the willies.

-----

A weird movie for you is Requiem for a Dream... its not scary but its weird and twisted and sure to make you feel weird. =)

Beastiepoo 08-04-2002 01:25 PM

Event Horizon scared the shit out of me. Although it didn't help that I was stoned out of my gourd at the theatre.:stoned

JimmyReject 08-04-2002 01:36 PM

Arachnaphoba, fucking spiders.:BangBang:

kmanrox 08-04-2002 01:42 PM

sex movies that feature Gary and unsuspecting young animals

Dawgy 08-04-2002 02:10 PM

ah yeah some good movies you guys listed...

Thirteen Ghosts scared the shit out of me for sure. I even watched that with some friends and by the end of the movie we were all sitting together on the bed. (not that i'm complaining) :)

Event Horizon got me a few times too. great flick.

what about The Abyss ? great scifi movie but i jumped a few times. plus its just a kickass idea that theres something living at the bottom of the ocean. (probly is)

Candyman got me... um... oooh all the Omen movies... those were just fucked up. not really scary, but i had some wild dreams after watching those.

UnseenWorld 08-04-2002 02:11 PM

I don't scare anymore. However, I do remember that way back when, Roman Polanski's *Repulsion* had at least one shit in your pants moment, where the girl getting ready for bed clloses her closet door and as it swings, for an instant, you see the outline of a man in the room with her...a man she doesn't see. It is so unexpected, not like the predictable Hollywood crap. In remember being scared by those dream-within-a-dream sequences in *An American Werewolf In London*, too.

oh man how could i forget the others. that movied kicked ass. the ending was totally unexpected.

Fletch XXX 08-04-2002 02:18 PM

To honestly answer your question Dawgy.

I never really get scared when it comes to horror movies. I collect horror movies, especially Bela Lugosi.

More so, it's the edge of the seat dramas that get me, could be my anxiety, but for the most part movies that have graphic rape scenes, and equally racial or sexual preference violence.

Yes! That's one of mine too.

Also:

Jacob's Ladder and
The Blair Witch Proect

Bobo 08-04-2002 02:21 PM

Pinocchio - you see the way his nose grew? That flick gave me goosebumps and made me soil my undies I was so scared. I've never told another lie from that day forward.

Cirrus 08-04-2002 02:25 PM

The Fly
Alien

MiLo 08-04-2002 02:25 PM

Suspiria made me feel weird and scared.

I collect horror movies, especially Italian directors and gore movies. Dario Argento is what you need to get you on the edge of your seat. Fucking classic.

That movie didn't scare me so much as give me motion sickness. I literally hurled afterwards. I admit that it had a freaky ending but I was FAR too distracted by the unneccesary camera shaking to get scared.

ldinternet 08-04-2002 02:41 PM

Actually this thread scares me... :(

I was sitting working on the laptop in a completely dark room, by an open window with cold air rushing in. It is past 10pm and pitch black outside, foggy as hell but deadly silent... decided to take a break and hop onto GFY and this fucking thread appears. :BangBang:

Looking out of the window into the fog I was thinking about a place near my home, the river by the cotton mill. It is just a wild area but there are winding tracks and pathways all the way through the forest area, with the cotton mill on a foggy dark night it looks just like 19th century England... ever go there at night and you get the feeling that there are murderers hiding behind the bushes, it is a REAL scary place. Personally I would never go there alone. There have been a few bodies found floating face down in that river over the years.

I guess if there are murderers hiding in the bushes... they're not looking just to stab someone and run off. I for one would rather be shot and killed instantly in an argument in South Central Los Angeles, than ambushed from behind, stabbed to death and gutted in Kearsley, England. I think Jack the Ripper would not feel out of place here.

Thinking of this... then I see this thread. Not good. I just locked the window, hehe.

Some photos. This would be a good place for a horror movie, as long as crew members didn't start to mysteriously disappear. Imagine this as a pitch black area with heavy fog, cold, and silent apart from the sound of owls and water running in the river. It really isn't a nice atmosphere. :(

Saw Signs on friday. I have to admit that that movie scared the living shit outta me. Mothman prophecy was also scary, but nothing like Signs. I thought i was gonna pass out!

some_idiot 08-04-2002 03:36 PM

Hackers and Independence Day! :(

I'm scared to death anytime a MAC with fancy graphics
starts to fuck things over.

dirtyone 08-04-2002 03:47 PM

CNN... oh wait thats not a movie thats real life

Towering Inferno. It's about a high rise building that catches on fire. I was 10 or so the first time I saw it and I hid in my closet for a week every night after everyone else went to bed afraid that my house would catch on fire. Thats the only movie that I have ever lost sleep over.

Other great scary movies:
Blair Witch Project - I got goosbumps at the end
The Shining - All work and no play, redrum...heh
Chirstine - I like Stephen King
