Google dropped our site from PR-6 to PR-0 because of RSS

We just installed WordPress and FeedWordPress onto our server to grab news items then distribute them to our staff. Yesterday we had a Google PR of 6 which we've had for a long time and today it's at Zero.

I'm 99% sure that this is why our page rank dropped because some of the news items were from Google News and therefore Google has a syndication link in the news items so they instantly know when someone clicks on a news item where our site is.

We are going to move Word Press to a different domain on a different IP, but I still have a coupld of concerns...

1) How long will it take Google to raise our PR back up after we take down the newsfeeds? Are are we permantly screwed by Google?

2) If we link to the new site and have the site link back to us will that contribute to a lower PR rank?

starpimps 01-11-2007 01:23 PM

--> i think its every 4 months that pr gets updated

2) If we link to the new site and have the site link back to us will that contribute to a lower PR rank?
-->no, are u movin it to diff IP?

lopez 01-11-2007 01:25 PM

obviously the rss is not the reason.
Calm down, then check your PR again tomorrow.

JD 01-11-2007 01:26 PM

google doesn't make pr changes over night man. whatever "killed" your PR happened over the last time since the last update

RhondaN 01-11-2007 01:27 PM

Yes we will add a new domain onto a different server just for news items for our staff.

If we use a server that is hosting other domains of ours will it decrease those domains PR rankings?

free4porn 01-11-2007 01:28 PM

Could be a bug, Google has been acting strangely recently.

OzMan 01-11-2007 01:30 PM

take a deep breath.....

PR is shuffling right now so wait until the dust settles before panicking.

If you are still zero it wasn't RSS that did it. Google doesn't penalize people for using their feeds. You might as well blame whatever shoes you had on today and vow never to wear them again.

You might have been in the middle of changing your site when the bot visited or whatever..it will most likely be back up soon. :thumbsup

Jace 01-11-2007 01:31 PM

google pr is CONSTANTLY updated, the toolbar is a export they do every 3-4 months

check your pr here

http://www.iwebtool.com/pagerank_checker

and tell me what it says in all the servers

nico-t 01-11-2007 01:35 PM

listen to the majority here, youre way overreacting and i never heard of a PR change overnight because you got a damn rss feed on your site.... from google themselfs, for lucifers sake!

RhondaN 01-11-2007 01:36 PM

Here is why I think it may have been the RSS feed.

After we started pulling in news feeds and also blog feeds using blogsearch.google.com I noticed that google's blogsearch started republishing our feeds that we had just pulled from them and then FeedWordPress republihsed them again our our site as new since they had the same seach keywords. Sort of a never ending newsfeed loop.

We instantly corrected this my having our domain name excluded in the new searches.

DjSap 01-11-2007 01:37 PM

I know what the problem is. It is not the RSS feeds. Do you by any chance use the font verdana on your site? If you do then that is the reason, Google just updated their standards and every site with the font verdana gets an instant 0 page rank. To fix this you need to switch to arial ASAP!

kaori 01-11-2007 01:40 PM

yeah, mine just dropped to 0 as well...
is that verdana thing true?? because that IS what I use..

DjSap that's interesting, I Just checked my site and usually its PR5/6 and now its 0 and Verdana is set as the first font of choice in my CSS file. Where did you see google set this standard?

martinsc 01-11-2007 01:45 PM

don't worry, google is still updating... the pr has nothing to do with the rss feeds you have.... relax and check back tomorrow

I'm almost betting it's a google bug if it is verdana.... kind of creepy that it happened to the three of us!

JD 01-11-2007 01:46 PM

I do that often with no problem. Although it looks stupid I like it when it happens because it alerts me that my blog/feeds are well listed.

Now none of our blogs are listed in blogsearch. This is why I first thought that Google had penalized us.

Adult Search Results 01-11-2007 01:51 PM

I'm surprised they did that.. could be another underlying problem.

Look up the word coincidence. You happened to make your change the same time PR was updating.

You shouuld really consider using our SEO hosting as it comes with free SEO consultations. It sounds as though you could probably use it.

I am working at the car dealership while my car is getting serviced. People are looking at me strangely as this thread has literally made me burst out laughing.

Sosa 01-11-2007 02:37 PM

sure there are other reasons. Wait a few days and see where it is.

HomeFry 01-11-2007 02:38 PM

I read a while back that Google banned WordPress sites, could have changed since then, but might be worth looking into.
