Water Has Been Posioned: Fluoride Causes Cancer

Public water supplies may cause bone cancer because they contain fluoride, a byproduct of the manufacture of nuclear weapons. I wonder if this also alters the CNS and thus could be responsible for the prevalence of stupidity in this country.

no, this is actually an issue that not many people ever bother to pay any attention to, go look up the MSDS sheets for fluoride. it isn't exactly what i'd consider a friendly sounding chemical. with prolonged expsoure to minute quantities of the chemical, who really knows what the effects could be..

Toothpaste specifically says that it is not to be swallowed. :2 cents:

I always thought it was bullshit that they put anythign in our water, we should have a choice. Where I live now it is in a court battle right now to stop them from putting it the water here.

notabook 12-31-2006 08:20 PM

Pffft, in such small parts per million Fluoride is no more dangerous to you than a bucket of KFC once a year.

extreme 12-31-2006 08:24 PM

In releated news, Cancer can be cured by not drinking water.

100% of those who stopped drinking water did not die from cancer.

Of course toothpaste is not to be swallowed. It typically contains 0.24% sodium fluoride. As with most beneficial chemicals or minerals, overdoing it can be deadly because they are in essence poisons. Try living without iron. You can't. On the flip side, take 50 iron pills and you're in trouble.

Keep in mind that we are typically talking 1 ppm sodium fluoride ion in municipal water supplies. Simple water filtration devices (even a cheap PUR water filter) removes the fluoride. Those who are that paranoid should be using a filter anyway.

As for not putting anything in the water, what about chlorine? It would be a matter of weeks before the entire water supply was non-potable.

:2 cents:

You may want to recheck this obvious opinion of yours because water filters DO NOT REMOVE the fluoride. From the Pur Website

There is a BIG difference in putting something in the water to make it drinkable and putting something in the water to make your teeth healthier. Fluoride is a topical treatment, it has absolutely no benefits when ingested.

CDSmith 12-31-2006 08:39 PM

The only thing fluoride did was to improve the health of people's teeth in communities where the water has been fluoridated, proven fact. The % of tooth decay in non-fluordidated communities compared to fluuoridated ones is staggering to say the least.

Water supplies in most areas of N. America (including right here in good ol' Winnipeg, Canada, where we get our water from crystal-clear Shoal Lake Ontario) have been fluoridated since the 60's or early 70's from what I know of it.

I don't see a correlation between cancer and fluoride, sorry.

I think this report may be out to lunch.

MattO 12-31-2006 08:42 PM

Ever notice how whenever someone posts some wacky theory, their source is always some website dedicated to that particular screwball idea? Or maybe sometimes we'll be lucky enough to get a link to a Wiki article put together by a nutjob.

Hay guys did you hear that balloons will kill your children? It's TRUE!!! LOOK
http://www.balloons-will-kill-your-children.com IT IS TRUE

btw I never had a cavity till I moved to a city without flouride in the water (when I was 25)

Incorrect. PUR water filters remove between 80 and 90% of the fluoride, depending on model. They do leave some fluoride behind, however. Note that they say they leave "beneficial fluoride" behind. It's a misleading marketing gimmick they've been using ever since the big stink about the link between poor dental health and bottled water (aka filtered).

If you read a PUR filter insert it lists what it removes, which is what led me back to drinking unfiltered tap water a few years ago.

Anyhow, yes, fluoride is a topical solution. Just so happens that water goes right past your teeth when you drink it.

CDSmith 12-31-2006 08:45 PM

You are so full of shit... i repeat PUR, Brita, and similar filters DO NOT REMOVE the fluoride. I don't need to read the fucking label, I went to their website http://www.purwater.com clicked on teh FAQ and #8 clearly says, without any doubt, that it DOES NOT remove the fluoride. Here is another website that confirms this.

Yeah, but see my above post about how so many communities in N. America have had fluoridated water since the 60's or 70's, and the ONLY thing that has been noted is a dramatic increase in dental health as compared with non-fluoridated areas.

Coca-Cola used to have Cocaine in it.
Smoking was once considered to increase your health.
Asbestos was a great insulator.
Lead Paint was the standard.
Mercury used to be handled regularly.

haha, fuck teflon. I have a good, old cast iron pan that suits me just fine. The great thing about cast iron is that it lasts forever. You can pass it down the in the family. Its the natural non-stick surface. And unlike teflon, it dosent fucking flake off.

You're talking in circles. You give one link that says it does not remove "beneficial fluoride" (note that they do not state "does not remove fluoride"), then another link that references the first as gospel. About.com says "it says so on their web site!" Damn scientific if you ask me.

As for the Brita link below, if you believe what they say, then you believe what it also says in the same paragraph: that fluoridated water is healthy, especially for children.

The first fluoridated water was introduced into the US before 1910, and it was widespread by 1940. So now, 67 years later people think it may cause cancer? Well, truth be told, it might. To those that live to be 140.

It looks like we are just going to have to disagree on this one.

Regardless, Happy New Year. :thumbsup

It doesn't matter what the fuck they say about fluoride, my point is that you are full of shit when you say that Pur and Brita type filters take the fluoride out. take your god damn retarded fucking head out of your ass and quit giving false information like you know what the fuck you are talking about. Do some simple fucking research before you open your mouth next time.
