Dyson Vacuums .. these fuckers are NICE !!

The wife needed a New Vacuum and I've always been sold on the commercials so i bought one. I never thought there was a reason to pay so much for a Vacuum but I have to say that it is nice (about $500).. tons of features and works really well. Lets see how it holds up in the long run.

anyone else have one and how has it been?

Can you tell I'm bored ?.. fuck I'm excited about a Vacuum :Oh crap

With 4 dogs and a cat, I go through approx 1 vacuum cleaner a year. I haven't been convinced on the Dyson yet. My last purchase was......hell, it's in the basement from when I had to clean up a lightbulb the puppy broke - but it doesn't have one of the filters that can get clogged either. Was around $250.

A lot of people say they like the Dyson because it picks up what their other vacuum didn't, but IME, EVERY vacuum does that. I have to vacuum at least 3 times (I wait until the chamber stops picking anything up) before I shampoo the carpet.

Oh, I go through carpet shampooers about once every 2 years :(

Sick Bastard 12-29-2006 09:11 PM

dude, I bought my goil a Dyson Animal... fuckin' thing sucks like a mutha-fucka! Dog hair, dust, atoms... EVERYTHING!

Like you said,,, tough to get excited about a vacuum, BUT, the Dyson gets me a little tingly in the beanbag.

Peaches 12-29-2006 09:15 PM

I liked it when I had my maid who brought her own damn vacuum cleaner :(

selena 12-29-2006 09:20 PM

I've got a DC-15 that I got a few months back.

So far I am very happy with it. :)

Sick Bastard 12-29-2006 09:20 PM

Peaches, do the Animal. I have 2 dogs and 3 cats and the thing is insane.

BTW- I like wear you're from. I used to live in the ATL for a few years and hit the N. GA mtns for biking all the time. Helen was always a great time too!

I have two kids and two cats .. I've gone through two in the past 5 years so we are on almost the same track. I don't recall how much i paid for the last two Vacuums but they were higher end Oreck so I'm guessing about $200 - $250 .. they make a good vacuum but i wanted to give the Dyson a try and so far I like it better. If it holds up for a Few years then it was worth it. The attachments are great. the Oreck doesn't really have attachments

aico 12-29-2006 09:25 PM

Did you get the one that is made specifically for pets?

Fizzgig 12-29-2006 09:27 PM

I think I like it!

Dysons are overrated. You need a Shark.
Take it from Saddam, I had many palaces that needed cleaning !!!

LOL. Too late for me to be reading this :winkwink: Yes, I love my area - I'm west of Helen in Ellijay. We are fast becoming a suburb of ATL though and now I'm looking for something further out. I love the little town atmospheres and being able to look into the sky and see the stars :) The lake I live on (very small - about 6 acres) is fed from a stream at the top of the mountain and the water is like glass. I've sat on my dock and seen a small (5 inch) fish 50 feet away. It's funny because I live in a resort neighborhood where a lot of people rent for vacation and I appreciate it so much, a lot of times I'd rather stay here for my "vacation" :)

Back to the topic: Mine have usually been Eurekas. I THINK the one I have now is a Hoover? I'll check tomorrow. I have very tall ceilings (vaulted 2 story with no attic) and through the years of buying vacuums, I can make a VERY long wand attachment by putting several of them together :) I also use the little wedge thingy to clean out the lint collector in the dryer.

The last cleaning crew I had here totally screwed up my old Eureka by not emptying the canister or something - now it won't pick up anything like a regular vacuum will, but the attachments still work. I keep it in my loft which is all hardwood to get cobwebs and hair in corners and just Swiffer the rest of it :)

My mother has ALWAYS had a Kirby. She also has always had a maid so she probably couldn't care less how heavy those damn things are!

I've bantered with getting another vacuum just to have one on each floor (I am such a lazy ass) and I just made a good RE sale, so maybe I'll treat myself to an Animal :)

PMdave 12-29-2006 09:42 PM

You all need Roombas! Let it clean everyday and you will be amazed!

Helix 12-29-2006 09:43 PM

DC-07 had it for 2-3 years now. Still works great, it's well worth the money. We have 2 cats and a dalmatian with that spiky hair that gets burrowed into the carpet, and the dyson still sucks it up.

Oh, I have one of those too, lol. Her name is Monica because of her sucking abilities :) The problem is that unless I run Monica every day, she can't keep up with the dog hair, even in just the three rooms she's in charge of. Plus she doesn't go under the sofa. But it IS fun to use the remote and chase the dogs around with her :thumbsup

tASSy 12-29-2006 09:46 PM

actually, after being a pink freak and doing much research - the D17 model and the one's just below it are all the same. same vacuum power etc. so i bought the pink one, so 20% proceeds go to susan g. komen breast cancer foundation. but it's one damn expensive vacuum....and VERY worth it. :2 cents:

(ESPECIALLY if you know pug hair!!!) :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

Didn't I say "run it everyday"? :winkwink:

Peaches 12-29-2006 09:47 PM

OK, here's what I have now:

That's very cool ..If i would have known that 20% went to a Breast cancer Foundation I would have gotten that one. My wife loves pink and it's a good cause. I donate to a few Cancer foundations and where i am in LI NY is a Breast cancer hot spot. I know a few people that have survived it and one that didn't.

No excuses... get a sheduler remote and it starts automatically on a given time each day. Ad a homebase and it will be always charged as it retur,d home to charge after it is done. Only thing you need to is remembering to emty it ever 2 days or so.

Bastard! I've now been shamed into getting Monica into a schedule :( But I'm moving her upstairs. I DO know the puppy took off part of her and chewed it up but it was on the side and I don't THINK necessary for her workload. We shall see.......

She'll be happier upstairs anyway - getting under my bed will make her giddy with dustbunnies :)

I never really looked into it. I know when i have a new house built I'll have it put in but for the current house i don't think I'd have it added. it would be nice for upstairs but for now I'll just keep he old one up there.

I have heard that is THE way to go as far as really getting things vacuumed up. Unfortunately, living in a log cabin, just not gonna happen :( I don't even have electrical outlets or HVAC vents in the logs :(

candyflip 12-29-2006 10:37 PM

We've had one for a while now and love them so much that we bought two to give to our parents for Christmas.

Peaches 12-29-2006 10:38 PM

I hate all of you. Now I'm going to buy a freaking Animal Dyson this weekend. I am SO weak when it comes to peer pressure.

Baa. Baa. Baa. :(

YES!!!!

Wait...
when did we start getting commisions from the Dyson folks?

can't... believe... I.. care... SO... passionately... to...discuss... my... VACUUM!

Peaches 12-29-2006 10:48 PM

I hate you all. Sadly, and to the great disappointment of my interior designer sister in law, it's actually going to end up matching my new paint going up in Feb ;)

Yes, she has given up on me.

Peaches 12-29-2006 10:51 PM

Are they a set price? I have a Target Visa card that gives me a 10% discount off shopping every month or two. I've just used the last one so I don't expect one for a while and THINK Target sells them? If so, I'll wait and use my discount card.

This thing better kick ass or you're all going to sent a pooping, deaf, or destroying pug.

Very cute pup! :)

You may have already seen this, but I watch it at least once a day just to cry with laughter.
