I gave 'em up today...

cigarettes....

and it's fucking killing me. I hate this. And I'm ready to do just about anyfuckingthing for just one stinkin' smoke.

so far:

I've consumed an entire jar of olives
half a raw onion
18 Cokes
3 jalepeno peppers
half magnum of wine
a ham
some mustard
one small unidentified bug
a block of sharp cheddar
a full pot of coffee
two bags of chips
and I've checked the door at least 18 times for people passing by that might be smoking.....

I'm gonna snap.....

Squishy 07-19-2002 07:12 PM

Zyban helps a whole lot. I've smoked a pack a day since I was 13, and this shit got me off of em for 4 months. Would have stayed off if I hadn't gone back into the bar.

Turboface 07-19-2002 07:13 PM

Amp, people say that quitting smoking cigarettes is hard - but it isn't.

I've quit hundreds of times!

:stoned

Pathfinder 07-19-2002 07:14 PM

You have convinced me about how easy it is to quit. I think I may quit.....again.

Amp, i quit smoking at the end of April....i've gained 40lb's since then.

If this weight gain doesn't slow down, i might pick smoking back up.

Heart Attack or Lung Cancer...its hard to decide....

Squishy 07-19-2002 07:15 PM

Ah, but here's the trick...it takes 21 days for the Zyban to kick in...in the meantime, smoke your head off. Then when you quit in 3 weeks, the agony you are going through right now is about 1/5 the intesity.

a1ka1ine 07-19-2002 07:16 PM

dont bother quitting, your smoking helps put money in the governments pockets, which they use for vital services such as fighting crime & terrorism, and encouraging economic growth.

your death of lung cancer will not be in vain, you will sacrifice yourself for better schools and local services.

:-D

Once a smoker, always a smoker.

Squishy 07-19-2002 07:18 PM

A second bonus is it's an anti-depressant and one of it's side effects is a sexual dysfunction. Some people get really, really, really horny, all the time. Mrs. Amp will be thrilled.

Same thing happened to a cousin of mine, but he leveled out at an 80 lb gain. That was over five years ago and he hasn't gained another pound since...but still does carry the extra 80 lbs.

In addition, since he used the nicorette gum to assist him when he quit, he also chews about 5 packs of gum per day.

Sly_RJ 07-19-2002 07:21 PM

Stick with it Amp! :thumbsup

Amputate Your Head 07-19-2002 07:22 PM

Amp...i quit using xanax because the anxiety caused by trying to quit was killing me.

Go ask one of those hawaiin doc-in-a-box's for some xanax

If they won't take smoking as a reason, goto another doc & tell him your having anxiety attacks.

Squishy 07-19-2002 07:32 PM

Would a big reefer help?

SR 07-19-2002 07:40 PM

UnseenWorld 07-19-2002 07:52 PM

You won't be able to quit cold turkey. I used to smoke Newport 100's menthol. The first thing I did was switch from menthols to Marlboro red. That got me started. Then I stopped buying packs of cigarettes but still bumming cigarettes off of other people. Eventually, you will bum less and less, and then you will quit.

So don't say "I'm quitting cigarettes". First say "I'm not going to BUY anymore cigerettes". Then just borrow cigarettes for a few months.

Another thing that helped is that I smoked Ganja. You'll DIE if you don't have something to inhale in your lungs while trying to quit.

Amputate Your Head 07-19-2002 08:33 PM

sure I will..... I've done it before, and there's no one here to bum them from.... it's just me. The store is too far to walk to, and the other car is still in California. I don't have a choice. I'll either get through this, or go insane.

I smoked for 7 years...i quit cold turkey, just use some sort of mind altering drug...i chose xanax :)

Gutterboy 07-19-2002 08:35 PM

I used chewing tobacco to help me quit.

Using it kept nicotine levels where they were when I was smoking, and unlike most prescription nicotine replacement therapies it is very oral in nature, which takes care of the psychological oral fixation/stress response you develop over years of smoking.

It took a few months, but after my psychological addiction to the cig's was taken care of completely, slowly reducing the amount of chew to nothing was very easy.

lawpal 07-19-2002 08:36 PM

just hang tough

I used to smoke 2 packs a day. I quit about 2 years ago, and have not smoked cigs since. I smoke a little bud every couple months, but no more smokes.

You can do it.

Amputate Your Head 07-19-2002 08:40 PM

Someone should start a keep fit class for people who have just quit smoking - glue a couple of packets of cigarettes to the back of a car, and get the new non-smokers to chase after them. If they can catch up with the car, they can smoke whatever they can grab. If they can't catch the car, then at least they've had some exercise :winkwink:

Marcus 07-19-2002 09:02 PM

buy cigarettes that you think are disgusting, like unfiltered winstons, then you wont want to smoke so much and you'll naturally start slowing down.

TopTGP 07-19-2002 09:05 PM

Amp: No matter how anxious you get, no matter how shaky and nervous you get, don't under any circumstances give up and smoke a cig. You'll be able to hold you're breath for longer then 5 seconds if you quit now :winkwink:

that's the problem.... after 20 years, literally all cigarettes are sexy to me.... like a wet snatch and a cold brew kinda sexy....

cold turkey is the only solution left to me..... :disgust

RK 07-19-2002 10:00 PM

Statistics show that 20% of people die from smoking, therefore 80% die not from smoking. That means not smoking is more dangerous than smoking.
:rasta :pimp

You can do it!
