Why do europeans resent americans when we do so much good?

1. Their bland popular culture is one of their major exports.
2. Many Americans truly believe they can "do Europe" in two weeks.
3. Many Americans know very little about the world outside of the USA.
4. Their accents are FUCKING IRRITATING
5. On a per capita basis they use an OBSCENE amount of the worlds natural resources .
6. They are imperialist swine.
7. They are full of themselves.

99% are emigrated from Europe so without US the Indians (Nativ Americans) would rule your Country. So America do Thank us that you exist .

don't really have anything against americans just the american gov., even though the gov does more good then bad i still can't look past the bad stuff.

I lived in Europe for 11 years, and here are a few common opinions about America and Americans:

1. The American public in general is pitifully gullible. In my 15 years living in the US I have seen little to contradict this.

2. American tourists are obnoxious, loud, overbearing morons with no class. In my experience that is usually true.

3. American cars and lorries (trucks) are absolutely gigantic. Compared to Euro vehicles, this is true.

4. America is a far more violent place to live. Partially true, depending upon where you go.

5. George W. Bush is a brainless monkey with absolutely no class. Not going to dispute that.

6. A disturbingly large proportion of Americans are religious fanatics. Compared with the proportion of judeo/christian fanatics in most European nations, this is definitely true. See #1 for why this is so.

7. The phrase "American Culture" is an oxymoron. Somewhat true, again depending upon where you live.

Despite this, I like living in the United States, well actually, I like living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Its a real cultural melting pot, plus I like the geography. The beach is 1 hour west, Santa Cruz 2 hours SW, 4 hours east is a mountain range with 10 14,000ft peaks, Yosemite Natn't Park, and endless trail running, hiking and backpacking. Not to mention San Francisco itself with its restaurants, excellent symphony orchestra, and clubs.

I will stay here until such time as the religious right manages to take over all 3 arms of the American Gov't, which I think is a small but very real possibility. If that happens, its either British Columbia or back to Europe for me.

My only beef with any european people is the french in paris that are really rude towards us americans, when we are polite to them they still treat you differnet i.e bad service, attitude, underlying resentment and so on...

But the french outside paris are very nice people but the paris just resent amercia it seems in general and the only thing i say to them if they are rude...

if it wasnt for us you would be speaking german now shut your cake hole....

The French do that with everyone...they are the outsiders in
Europe nobody likes them.

You could ask the average American what the European Union was and what its goals were, and most likely you would get a "uh, dont know dont care" response.

Indeed they do that to everyone. Not easy to meet a french and chat or do business with him. I have met some very cool guys and girls in the past from france, but this is not the rule. The majority give me the impression they do not want any kind of interaction with foreigners.


If you pick a random guy in the street and ask him what's his opinion about the average american citizen he will tell you the following:

He is hard working. He is good organized. He has his own problems like we do, doesn't different in many things in reality and I'll add: the foreign policy of his goverment makes him in several cases look like a threat.

Fuck, who cares? I like traveling to the US, and Europe is great too.

I've gotta admit though, it's fun watching the Europeans, Americans and Canadians argue amongst themselves about who lives in the best country or which country is the best place in the world... nobody ever thinks about Australia and it always makes me smile... if only they knew.

Why do Europeans hate Americans?

Cultural Imperialism. Europeans believe that their countries have been around longer and therefore are better.

The problem is when the USA gets a cold everyone (other countries) get pneumonia. Our economy, military, and society affect other countries in ways we don't even contemplate or care about.

Some Europeans (not all) can't stand the fact that the USA had to intervene in their politics and security to help them. Example the Marshall Plan, WW1, WW2, Berlin Airlift, Cold War, etc.

I don't care if Europeans love me or appreciate what my country did for them.

The proof is in the pudding. Who will the next victim country come to for help? Belgium? No...the USA. And, we will gladdly render assistance because that is the American ethic.

Ever thought (that apart from the obnoxious tourist types - and yes we have them too) a large chunk of the problem here is the belief that most Europeans resent Americans? You certainly can't conclude this from any BB as these places tend to draw many of the biggest biggots around from all countries.

If it wasn't for the USA I wouldn't have my wife and several very good friends. Yes - many Americans are annoying assholes but so are many from other countries. Just tends to be the way people can annoy that varies.
