Quitting your Dayjob
I noticed quite a lot of you still have dayjobs. What are you waiting for until you reach that point where you quit the dayjob and work for yourself full-time ? Just curious.
|
Security...
I don't see how I could work effectively doing this fulltime if I was just worrying about paying the bills all the time... :) My other job isn't stressful, so... Im not yet ready to switch the non-stressful job for this one, :P |
Some are waiting to graduate, some are waiting to make more than $100 a week and some are wait for both.:)
|
You didn't graduate yet charly ? :)

Fuck a dayjob!

It's hard to know when to quit. My very last real job, I was working as an engineer for Motorola. My online income had exceeded my 9-5 income and took up less time. I had always wondered what would happen if I put as much time into my online ventures as I put into my day job. I wondered that until my little waffle-dick boss came in with an attitude problem for the 300th consecutive day. I decided then and there that it was time to find out what life without a 9-5 would be like. With a quick "suck my cock, Randy" I was out the door and never looked back.
My fiancee shit a golden goose egg when I told her that I walked out of my job and I had no intention of looking for another job (in retrospect, I suppose I shouldn't have been sitting in my underwear, drunk, watching cartoons when she came home from HER job). Things were tough for a month or so until the money started coming in. I worked 12-16 hours a day, every day. I can't imagine having to go back to a real job now. I think I would rather die. |

About 5 years ago, I was flipping burgers while attending lawschool.
Then I got into this, made approx 30k my second month, so I thought...fuck it! Thank GOD for internet porn. And for the ability to spam the shit out of Infoseek back then, haha. |
I actually really enjoy my day job....but I make more money in porn than I do with the day job though. I like being around people so it actually works out for me...if i worked alone i would go CRAZY!

Amen brother! DH |
I haven't had a dayjob since last Sep and I'll never go back. What's a 9-5?? lol
|
Weird timing with these day job posts... Just yesterday I posted about how I quit my day job almost a year ago and have never been happier. Then, this morning, completely out of the blue, I get a call from my old employer (haven't heard from them in 9 months plus). Apparently they are about to land a contract in my area and wanted to know if I was interested.
My gut reaction is NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO (etc), but I have to tell you.... if I could grind it out for just 3-6 months maybe (and do all my web stuff at night like I used to), I could save up some serious bank. But I don't think I can bring myself to do it. I will probably just tell them :NopeNope |
I just started up my photo content provider biz. and so far from initial sales activity, I am somewhat confident that I can keep at this f/t.
|
I am on the edge right now....I have promissed to myself that this 9-5 job I am doing now will be the last one.
My network is 60% ready the way I want it to be - when everything is done I FUCKEN QUIT!!! g:thumbsup btw I work in an Online Casino and we are not allowed to do Casino stuff on the side. For now I am building my network of Paysites but after I quit, Casinos will be my No1 income.... |
I love my day job :)

I was working as a sys. admin a couple of years ago. Ended up getting laid off because the company made some stupid decisions, so I decided that since I was single and I had quite alot saved up I'd take 2-3 months off before looking for a new job.
About the middle of the 3rd month I stumbled across a newbie webmaster board. A week later I put up an AVS site with a bunch of upsells inside, and didn't think much of it 'cause my html and graphics skills were nonexistent. When I checked the stats a day later and saw it had made $350 I had my "never seeing the inside of a cubicle again" epiphany. I cut back my spending and expenses so I had enough in savings to live on for 3-4 more months and started working 12 hour days on the web. I started making more than the job I'd left about 5 months after deciding to go for it. |

:1orglaugh I'm sure most of us feel this way now :-) |
i'm still stuck in mine. :helpme
|
I still have my shitty dayjob too...but I did just go from fulltime to parttime about 2 months ago & so far, so good. The only thing that really blows about that is that if it's really busy I hafta put in the fulltime hours. Things are lookin' up tho...so hgopefully the dayjopb thang won't be much longer.

From 1978 to 1989 I worked during the week as a salesman. Made $50k in my last year. In 89 turned into a fulltime pornographer. It was hard at first, but never regretted it.
13 years later I run a company employing 6 people plus myself and Eva. Doing nicely thank you. toodamnfli Your right, never graduated and it's way to late for the school of common sense. :thumbsup |
I've never even had a day job, lol. When I was 16, I worked like 8 hours a week as a cashier, but as soon as I turned 18, I found the world of online porn and luckily, I never even had to THINK about getting a "day job".

No day job since last January this year. I've never been happier. As happy as I was when I resigned from my job, I was still a bit worried that I am actualy going to live and pay my bills from what I do on the net at home. But I waited long enough so now I feel more secure than any job out there.
|
thats because submitting to TGPs all day long doesnt pay the bills
:) |

If that's the case, then someone's doing something VERY, VERY wrong. |

if you are i am very happy for you. but most of the guys just make enough to pay the B/W bill and buy a few beers |
My god, what kind of bills do you have if you need to make 10k per month. Ouch.
My belief though Steve is that those who make that kind of money, don't tell others how they do it, or what sponsors they use, so you'll rarely hear from those that DO make that kind of money. Actually, you may HEAR from them, but rarely will you get overly useful information. If you were making that kind of money per month, would you tell everyone under the sun how you were doing it? However, it CAN be done. But, you do have to spend money to make money. :) |

And flying to europe every 2 weeks doesnt make them smaller either :)) However i seriously doubt there are guys who make a good amount of money by playing the TGP game. Maybe few grand a month - yes but not more then that. And if you have a family to support few grand wont buy much unless you live Canada :) |
Brandon, Manitoba, Canada :)
Thank you very much. :) You seem like a good shit Steve. A shit, but a good one :) Hit me up on icq. |
Funny to read this thread today. I will get rdy for office in about 30 mins and QUIT TODAY!
I will write more later when I come back in the evening! FUCK MY REAL JOB! |
hatebreed: rock on brother! Stick it to the man!

I know a few guys making 6 figures TGP'ing, but its not just a matter of submitting galleries anymore. You need to have preferred submitter status at several TGP's, be a longtime (read: reliable) submitter to other TGP's, a great marketer, have innovative sponsors or sites, have the patience to hand submit every day, know which paid listings to go for and which to stay away from, be a great statistician, and a few other qualities. TGP is getting like the SE game has been for a couple of years. The only way you are going to get in and make any real money is to knock established, profitable webmasters off the top. And the odds of that happening are grim indeed. |
