Nevada to legalize pot?!

So I saw on CNN last night that Nevada voters will be able to vote for the legalization of pot. I cant find anything about it online though... Fuckin CNN. Anyways they said that if passed you can legally posess up to 3 oz, and you will be able to legally purchase herb at state sanctioned shops. JEAHHHHHH!!!!!

Did anybody else see that story, or am I hallucinating?

pr0 07-10-2002 11:07 AM

please tell me your not joking

hybrid 07-10-2002 11:09 AM

Yeah pot is legal here in California but it's still a Federal Crime and a Schedule I controlled substance which means you still goto jail for big amounts.

Jax Meehoff 07-10-2002 11:11 AM

I swear it! I am not joking. It makes sense, If prostitution is legal, then why not cannibus? Too bad I dont live in NV.

pr0 07-10-2002 11:14 AM

Good now maybe not so many people will have to fly to amsterdam to have a good legal time :)

From the Article at MSNBC

?If we legalize it, what is next? A lot of people don?t use drugs now because they are illegal and they stand to lose in their personal or professional lives if they use.?

Whats next? I'll tell you whats next

Happy People
Raised sales of Doughnuts & Munchies
Drop in Drug related Violent Crimes
Drop in Drug Related Murders
Less money in the pockets of Tijuana Drug Lords
Less money in the pockets of Canadian Growers
Less people ruining their lives with Alchohol

I can JUST see it, the smoke girls in the casinos that hand out the smokes will now be saying "cigars, cigerettes, pot?"

Casinos will love it - not only get you drunk while gambling, but high too.

which is the only reason it wont ever be truly legalized....the govt will never be able to tax it correctly, because so many people will just grow it themselves.

Morgan 07-10-2002 11:24 AM

marijuana is not legal here in california. I wish it were since I smoke an oz/week but unfortunately its not. However, if you can prove medical illness as one described here http://www.rxcbc.org/exc.html you can get a doctors not and go to one of the few places that sell the shit. There is one in Oakland, Santa Ana and I believe Los Angeles. :stoned

Then those would be the "criminals" that they could go after...

edmo 07-10-2002 11:27 AM

"They all are connected with marijuana smuggling," Meyer said. "We've said all along the cultivation and distribution of marijuana is illegal regardless of state or local law. Our job is to enforce federal law."

The U.S. Supreme Court said last year that it is illegal to distribute marijuana for medical purposes.

Just fly to Vancouver instead. Not only can you go golfing, skiing and sailing all in the same day but you can also partake of some fine B.C. herbs well your there. I believe High Times just rated the city the best in the world for pot smokers as well. :)

edmo 07-10-2002 11:51 AM

Remember if you do drugs you're helping a terrorist. Um... Somehow.

Yes, Doctor I can't stop laughing at stupid shit.....
"87,000 people sought treatment at hospital emergency rooms for medical problems related to marijuana?about the same as those for heroin-related problems."
http://www.dea.gov/speeches/s061802.html

The problem with those fucks is they smoke a joint and then mix in something stronger... ending up in the hospital...

eroswebmaster 07-10-2002 12:05 PM

Well pot already has been "decriminalized" here in Nevada.

Possession of any amount first offense is a misdemeanor $600 fine.

2nd offense misdemeanor and something like $1,000 fine and so on.

Only when you get to about the 4th offense do you see any incarceration.

But it would be nice if they actually legalized it...I remember visiting here about 10 years ago they would have billboards up telling you if you were caught with any amount including shake you were going to jail for a felony.

I think people are finally wising up to this just say no b.s.

LOL I wouldn't be surprised if we started to see signs that said things like that.

I was watching the history channel the other night and they were showing old war propoganda signs and one was about saving gas..the sign actually read:
"If you drive alone you are riding with Hitler."

FireFoz 07-10-2002 12:15 PM

The UK just legalized it too i heard.

Yea, just like all those people growing their own tabacco and brewing their own beer...Right? The leagalization of it, could very well improve the quality of it, that you wouldn't waste your time growing it, you would just run to the corner store and pick up a pack of joints and a box of twinkies...:Graucho

It's fairly easy to grow marijuana & no special equiptment is required like as in brewing beer. Just some seeds, some soil & some sunshine in your backyard. And its virtually impossible to kill it, unless you're an idiot.

But your right....i'd buy it before i grew it no doubt.

According to early polls, it doesn't look like it'll pass though....

I'll be voting for it of course (I think potheads are pinheads for the most part, but think everyone should be allowed to self-destruct in any manner they choose as long as they aren't taking anyone out with them). The problem is, is potsmokers DON'T vote, the bluehaired old ladies DO vote...and that's why it won't pass. The old people are afraid of all the riffraff that'll come into town to get a buzz (the anti's on this initiative have been having a field day with the terror factor). So while it's nice to see it on the ballot and I'll be voting for it, I look for it to be defeated about 60% to 40%.

If it does pass, it'll be for personal home use and medical use only, so you most likely won't see Pot Girls in the casinos or titty bars.....

Funkito 10-27-2002 11:52 AM

The pussies in Washington will never let pot become legal. Too much of a Mom and Apple Pie campaign issue. Plus imagine the lobbying from the alcohol companies if it even got close: you ain't seen nothin' yet.

"States rights" is some toilet paper to these same fuck-ups. Vancouver here I come.

Just make it illegal to grow becuase its large amounts. How many people do you see amking their own alcohol?

picpile 10-27-2002 12:25 PM

this is the dumbest thing ever. if it passes this year it has to be voted on agian in 2 years. and would only legalize use in the home.

I highly doubt it will even pass this year though

pottdoctor 10-27-2002 12:32 PM

If only mate. They have started trials of softening the laws in certain places but there hasn't been any country-wide decriminalization yet. I think it is on the cards in the next 10 years though. I wish they would get on with it. I'm not a big smoker - happy enough to pop over to Amsterdam for personal consumption to be honest - but my mother-in-law would benefit from a daily dose or two to ease her constant arthritic pain. She can't get on a plane easily to get to where it is legal.

thatdykeliz 10-27-2002 01:01 PM

I live along the Az/Nv border, and there's a big sign up on the fencing around one of the casino parking lots on this side of the river -- it used to say

LEGALIZING MARIJUANA --
DUMB IDEA!

but someone came along with a can of spray paint and changed it to

LEGALIZING MARIJUANA --
SWEET IDEA!

I'll try to get out there this afternoon and take a pic of it...I busted out laughing when I drove by there the other day.
:stoned :thumbsup
