Living in Australia

where are the best places?
what are the immigration - investor visa requirements?
cost of living - houses - cars.. etc... links..

looking for higher scale places only

soulbleed 10-27-2006 11:24 PM

sydney is where all the action is.

gold coast is also good.

not sure about visa requirements etc.

Damian_Maxcash 10-27-2006 11:28 PM

Its been a long time since I was in Australia so I am sure the visa stuff has changed - but as far as places to live goes I would say around the Sunshine Coast just north of Brisbane.

The Gold Coast to the south is OK but a bit tacky - but maybe better if you are younger.

The biggest thing is climate - tell us what is your favorite city in the US and I will tell you where to be in Aus.

Daruma 10-27-2006 11:30 PM

Sydney
Melbourne

would be my first choices - like to have access to a larger city and the major airports..

I don't mind to be a little outside of the city in a more exclusive, gated type of community

Just North of Sydney are some really nice places - I cant remember names but thats where I would head if they are the 2 cities you are thinking about.

Its a bit of a battle with Melbourne and Sydney - I didn't like Melbourne at all, the weather sucked for a start. Then again some people love it. I suppose its like the thing between the west and east coast in the US - you cant love both.

Daruma 10-27-2006 11:44 PM

weather in sydney is like what place in the rest of the world?

New Zealand. Seriously if you make good money in this business move to New Zealand, you can live tax free on overseas income for 4 years, immigrating also is easier, and if you don't like it just take the NZ citizenship and you can move to Australia no hassles :).

Weather in Sydney is a bit like Los Angeles but wetter. You can get the weather coming off the ocean or off the desert. Sydney gets a little bit cooler in the winter though.

If NZ is in the equation then there is no contest - go to NZ.

Nice place - but its a big city with its share of big city problems.

The northern beach suburbs would be the place to head for.

There are loads of great places to live in Australia.

If you have never been here before do yourself a favor and travel the East Coast before settling down anywhere.
