FACT: If I hear you using swear words near my kids, I will ask you to stop.

If you don't stop you will have problems *much* worse than having a poor vocabulary.

Yesterday I took my nephew and his friend out for a meal at a local family restaurant. At the booth next to us one of the members of the group was saying F-this anf F! that. I made eye contact with him, letting him know that I did not appreciate that language around the kids. He got the point loud and clear and respectfully complied with my request. The situation was handled so smoothly and quietly that most patrons didn't even realize what happened. The scene could have been *much* worse.

That's a promise and a warning.

Watch your mouth.

Verbal 10-25-2006 12:00 PM

no offense, but you would have beat his ass instead? what kind of message does that send? I have 2 on the way and Im wondering how I would handle that situation.

That would depend on the situation. Ass beating isn't out of the question though.

Tom_PM 10-25-2006 12:07 PM

Well, I have to agree on this one. Some people swear like there are no other words in the vocabulary. Thats fine in private, but in public it's not fine. Usually a look is all it takes unless they're unaware of whats spewing out, lol.

squishypimp 10-25-2006 12:12 PM

ill be sure to watch my mouth :)

Hahaha... ok there tough guy. What ever you say.

I just request that people don't swear around my boy. It's amazing how being a mature adult can get things done.

But hey, if you think it's cool to be the pretend tough guy where nothing happens in a story on an internet message board, then more power to ya.

Tom_PM 10-25-2006 12:16 PM

Yeah, trying to beat someone down because they choose to not stop saying bad words is the wrong thing imho. Teaching the kids that you state your case when something is just plain wrong is one thing. Making it way worse is another ,lol.

Bro Media - BANNED FOR LIFE 10-25-2006 12:19 PM

personally i don't mind people swearing around my kids (if i had any).. why? because they pick it up and by the time they are 4 or 5 they grow out of that "OMG I CAN SAY FUCK, FUCK FUCK FUCK!!" stage... you don't believe me? i have a 7 year old nephew who was around swearing all the time, and he grew out of it, doesn't swear anymore, knows what it is, knows its not good, and is out of the stage where he wants to say it...

And when they don't, you tuck your tale and walk away like a loser you are.

I feel sorry for your kid. With a tool dad like you, he will grow up to be the laughing stock around his school.

Damian_Maxcash 10-25-2006 12:27 PM

I agree in that situation....

In some cases though parents can a little like non-smokers - come and sit on the same bench as you in a park and get pissed off because you have a cigarette (or start swearing).

aww... how cute, you made up a fantasy scenario of the future about a guy you don't even know.... funny how people make such attempts at what they think is "cool".

Truth is, you have no idea how I'd handle any situation, because you don't handle things like an adult. Yet, I do have an idea how you'd handle any situation based on how you've already told us you'd handle it... immature.

So you go on and keep telilng your little fantasy stories. At least you're creative :1orglaugh

JD 10-25-2006 12:33 PM

ROFL If you were to "eye ball" me I'd keep swearing. it's a free country. Fuck you. If you've got a problem, say something to me like an adult in a polite manner and I'd most likely to bring it down a notch, don't try to intimidate me with your lazy eye it's not scary.

fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck shit shit shit shit anal sex.

I love the "tough" manlets that think it's a hoot to swear at children.

Hint: You will not do that around my kids I can promise you that. You waking up in the Hospital is not "cool".

Yea then there's the flip side. The parents cussing around the kid and the kid growing up saying that at school and getting in trouble. Then you have the lack of vocabulary because instead of using normal words he just swears. You might as well fuck in front him too right? I mean eventually he's going to find out what that is also right? This world is so fucked now. Back in the day (i'm talking 60-70 years ago) if a child swore he would damn near get his teeth knocked out. This is of course back when parents were real parents. That was also pre video game and internet era. Now people let the internet, the tv and video games raise their children. We wonder why the world is so fucked up now? We need not focus on just cussing but overall parenting. It is NOT ok to cuss in front of children. IT is NOT ok to smoke in front of or around children. Let the child make his own decision once he is of age. Raise him as a CHILD and expose him to ADULT things when he becomes old enough. Stop trying to force the child to accept bullshit to early. People get child and adult things mixed up. You may argue, he's going to hear it anyway!! Yea well when that time comes he'll hear it. What you do is talk to your child about things in life and let him know the real but dont force it down his throat. I have a 6 year old and of course he hears cuss words at school from the other kids. Do we cuss around him....no. Do we let him watch music videos....no. We monitor all of his television and occasional video games. You know what we've got so far? A well rounded child who uses manners and is respectable. All the kids like him. All the parents love him when he comes over for playdates and his teachers adore him. Imagine if he was a cussing kid and went over for a play date? Parents wouldn't want him around their child and we would look like terrible parents.

STOP BEING LAZY AND BE REAL PARENTS!!!!! IF YOU'RE TO SELFISH TO DO THAT THEN DONT HAVE KIDS!

evildick 10-25-2006 12:40 PM

Letting your kids/nephews watch you randomly beat complete strangers is going to be much worse than letting them hear someone swearing. Try it a few times and let us know how that works out for you. Plus the assault charge and trip to the police station will be a real nice touch.

If you say so.. my picture is on gfy, I know many on GFY from personal meetings... and you? Oh right, to chicken to show your face. How many words does that speak? :1orglaugh

Oh, and if you think how a person looks dictates exactly how a person handles every situation there is, then you truly are living in a fantasy world :glugglug

Machete_ 10-25-2006 12:44 PM

DorkJedi do you get manhandled a lot where you live, so you have to go pretend you are a tough-guy on GFY? You couldn't even Scare LC if you tried.

mortenb 10-25-2006 12:45 PM

I guess I'm pretty safe over here then.. Thousands of miles away..

CDSmith 10-25-2006 12:46 PM

Whether I'm out somewhere with any of my young neices or nephews or when I take my parents out to dinner OR even if there are other people in the place that obviously don't want to hear that kind of talk, I have no problem whatsoever about interrupting a table full of shit-talking foul-mouthed retards and setting them straight. I've done it on several occasions.

One day I'm sure someone will react badly to me and get mouthy, maybe even wait for me outside or decide to try their luck and take a swing right then and there, who knows?

But so far it hasn't happened.

In a bar it's usually different, everyone is swearing. But in a nice family restaurant there's no call for it at all. It's a respect thing, and you either get it or you choose to be a lowlife brainless fool.

Cheers. :D

First, I'd walk the kids to the car. Then I'd go back and stomp the moron's head in.

kane 10-25-2006 12:50 PM

So teaching your kids that if someone doesn't do as you want you should kick thier ass is better than having them hear swear words? That's a great lesson.

"look kids if you ask someone to stop doing something and they don't do as you want, it's okay to kick thier ass, just don't say ass because that's bad. When the police come to arrest you tell them you had to kick some rear end."

Whatever, sonny.

There are plenty of people here who are outside the mainstream culture but still know how to behave in polite society.

Too bad your parents didn't take the time to teach you how to act, you're only hurting yourself in the end, Skippy

i was hoping for something cool on darksidedata

and yeah i agree...swearing around young and impressionable minds is very crude and ignorant.

d_train 10-25-2006 12:57 PM

I used to curse a lot, and when I say a lot I mean a curse on every beginning and ending of every sentence. I tried getting rid of the bad habit by replacing the cuss words with numbers or other words.

Now, you would often here me say "Just what the 'four' is wrong with you?!"

CDSmith 10-25-2006 01:02 PM

There are other ways of dealing with that kind of rabble if they don't choose to do as you ask and act like humans. The manager of the restaurant can have them removed if it comes down to that. If the manager is unwilling to do anything then the place isn't worth your patronage in the future.

So no need for a public brawl.

Unless of course the person or persons wants to wait for you and confront you when you leave the place. In that case it's actually a good lesson to show kids that there are times when it's okay and necessary to not only defend yourself but to stand up for what is right.

Or is it better to show your kids that the best way to handle unpleasant things in life is to sit there like a scared weasel letting the assholes of the world walk all over you and those you care about?

Obviously you dont have kids because you would not tell that to a 6 year old. Then he would run around saying fuck like it was ok. Sure, you can tell your teacher i dont want to do my fucking school work! It's just a word!!

That was an idiot statement you made.

Good you made that you didn't make noise, could be worse, kids for example could hear more words if you obused that guy trying to stop him, eye contact is enough in such situations....

my son soon to be 9 went through the cusing stage. I found that if you give them there own words that they can use insted of the cusing they don't do it. He is a smart cookie and when i told him that it was an adult word he said it was not fair so i said ok you can use Fudge insted of the F word. that was the last i heard of it
