If there're some Viet webmasters here please let me know, I need your help ( even if you're not a viet wbmaster). I'm in the third world so everything is hard for me, eg. goverment, law enforcers...etc.

Enemy or friend? I spent three tours there as a US soldier.

I am living in Saigon, south Vietnam. My dad was a General of south Vietnam before 1975 ( before the comunist took over Saigon), and he left Vietnam for US on a US naval ship right after he heard the news that the North would take over in a week. And for leaving his country behind, he deserved a good price is never see me again, and I will never try to contact him. That's why I support the current goverment, I'll do whatever it takes to help my country grow back after the destruction of wars. Yes, we have had so many wars, but not any more. We'll build a strong military and we WILL beat the shit out of the Northern enemies ( Chinese, Russia etc.) and we will aslo conquer the South ( Cambodia, Laos, Thailand..etc). Do you know what Vietnam mean? it mean the Super of The South, super of all Southeast Asia and near by countries.

Big ambitions, better eat alot of rice balls.

It's really not that simple.

The U.S. was supporting a fascist government while fighting the communists in Vietnam.

Both were police states, but the U.S. decided to put thousands of lives at stake by bringing in troops to fight communism because the armchair generals in the U.S. had this foolish theory about the "Red Scare". That if we don't stop the spread of communism in other countries, it will eventually spread to the U.S.

In reality, communism simply isn't economically feasible and will eventually fall apart or turns into a much softer form of socialism. No matter how you slice it though, communism takes away personal freedoms.....but back then there wasn't much of a choice.

Either go with Fascism or Communism. Both lead to a dictatorship and a police state.

Both the People's Republic of China and Vietnam claim they are Communist....but in reality it's softened up to hard socialism over true communism. Both countries started to open up and allow American and European businesses in to help support their economy. My theory is that eventually Communism will eventually completely die from both countries.

The only true "hardcore" communist countries are Cuba and North Korea. Both of these countries have people that are starving and a dying economy.

I'm not saying that everything is great in China and Vietnam, but it is a step above North Korea and Cuba which have the most extreme forms of communism you can get.

Well, if you really want to be accurate, South Vietnam's government was not a Fascist government, and there is not and has never been a Communist government. Communism is the final stage of society in Marxist theory in which the state/government no longer exists.

All of the so called "communist" countries actually have socialistic governments.

Also you are correct. There really is no such thing as "true" Communism since it would require no state or government.

But we both know that's impossible, and in turn the road to Communism leads to a Police State.

Edit: When I call a country "Communist" I'm not using the Marxist definition but rather the defination of it being the "most extreme form of Socialism"

Well true Fascism exhalts nation/race above individuals. Italy and Germany were Fascist governments during Mussolini and Hitlers days.

Actually the government of South Vietnam was a puppet of the USA during the war. JFK gave authorization for our CIA to over throw Diem and every President in Vietnam (and there were several) after that was basically controlled by the USA (although some were alittle difficult at times), so I am not sure what a proper definition would be other than a USA puppet government.

It's pretty ironic that a country such as ours which is "Pro Democracy" was setting up puppet governments which was essentially anti democracy.

Now I'm not one of those Anti War liberals. I think War is a necessity when it comes to defending American interests.....but I think going into Vietnam was a stretch to say it was an American interest.

Oh well. Our own government is moving slowly moving into a Police State....and it won't be stopped unless drastic changes are made.

The whole region was supposed to have an election after 1954 [when the Vietminh kicked out the French from North Vietnam], but this never happened because the US [with good reason] was afraid that Ho Chi Minh and the communists from the North would win.

As much as the leadership of the Vietnamese struggle for national unification were communists, most North Vietnamese did not particularly care for communist ideology. They were nationalists who sought to end hundreds of years of foreign domination. The communist leadership knew this and manipulated it to its advantage.

Diem and those who succeeded him did little to shake Vietnamese' perception of them as installed puppets whose sole purpose is to put a Vietnamese face on foreign occupation. Diem's famous crackdown on Buddhist monks and the monks' famous protests of self immolation are clear examples of this disconnect.

I am old so I will not be around to see the USA become a true Police State, but I tend to agree with your statement about our country slowly becoming a Police State. Our freedoms are being whittled away. In another twenty-forty years I am afraid it will not resemble the USA I grew up in. In fact it barely resembles "that USA" even now.

It was about twenty years ago that I read, between city, county, state and federal laws, we had more than 10 million ordinances and laws on the books nationally. I don't know how any country with that many ordinances and laws can truly call themselves a free country. As I stated that was about twenty years ago, I am sure that I don't want to know the current figure.

The key to successfully brining in a Police State is to do it slowly bit by bit so no one notices until it's too late.

We're already seeing signs of a Police State and Fascism.

Just look at the way the FTC functions.

The FTC can sling mud at your business.......state totally false claims....and you can't even sue them because they're a government agency.

The FTC can get away with liable and slander. They can make and enforce rules on an industry that they do not understand.

I entered the Army at a very young age during the Korean War and served two tours and I served three tours in Vietnam. I was a combatant in all of my tours and in all spent more than thirty years in the Army.

As a young kid in Korea I did not consider at all why we (the USA) were involved in Korea. I just accepted what I was told "to kill communist gooks". In Vietnam as a much older soldier and a better educated soldier, I did give some thought to why we were engaged in Vietnam, but not alot of thought, because I was a professional soldier and it was my job to do what I was trained to do.

Over the years that I have been a civilian I have given a great deal of thought as to why we (the USA) were involved in either of the wars. The best explanation that I have come up with is, it was a Polictical show of power.

I am extemely angry about how our politicians decided to conduct both wars. Both wars could have been won in a matter of months (and for those that would be concerned, without the use of nukes). So many terrible things happened, so many people died, on both sides, that was not necessary.

Our politicians should never engage our troops in combat, unless they are willing to use the full military might of the USA, and win a swift and decisive victory.

To fight a limited war, prolongs war, and ultimately costs more lives, than a full, all out brutal assault. War is brutal and criminal in nature, but to unnecessarily prolong war, for some political BS, is even more brutal and criminal.

He owes about 7-8 paysites, and one cash site (p**.com). He was friendly and talked to me a lot. One day he just disappered :( And yes he didn't paid his affiliate webmasters :mad:
