All of the very wealthiest acquaintances I have ever known wear Swiss Army watches or no watch at all. Because most of them are actually cheapskates, and/or they're comfortable enough with themselves to not give a shit what's on their wrist.

The Rolex flashing assholes who pretend to be rich are actually wearing something that represents a middle class necessity. Watches are rarely worn by the upper class as time isn't really a concern.

People that conspicously show off their rolex, yes are pretentious insecure assholes. Some people buy them because of the quality. I have a submariner and love it. The only way you would know it was a rolex was if you looked at the face and saw the crown. Don't think that's too tastless. It's not gold either, it's white gold and is not gaudy at all. :pimp
