Another ZANGO solution for affiliates

simply put this javascript on any high traffic page

<script>
var agt=navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase();
if (agt.indexOf("zango")!=-1)
alert("WARNING - do not close this message - please read - You have what many people call dangerous spyware known as ZANGO installed on your system. We are not here to sell you anything you can remove it for free simply go to google and type REMOVE ZANGO into the search box and you will find many websites to help you remove it.");
</script>

it will inform users they have zango installed , it wont interfere with normal traffic in any way , it wont even effect zango traffic , but it will inform people with zango they have it installed and how to remove it..

TAKE BACK YOUR TRAFFIC !!! the adult industry OWNS the traffic on the internet, its time we started using that advantage..

p.s. to test this script to see the message simply change the word "zango" in the script to "msie" if your using internetexplorer or "firefox" if your using firefox etc ( dont forget to change it back to zango.. )

Damian_Maxcash 10-17-2006 07:39 AM

Very cool as usual....

fris 10-17-2006 07:40 AM

nice smokey ;)

Chris 10-17-2006 07:40 AM

i don't want another zango thread :(

Aneros Josh 10-17-2006 07:43 AM

seriously, I think you could power a small country with your brainpower

SmokeyTheBear 10-17-2006 07:43 AM

If you want to be a bit MORE proactive you can use this script basically does the same thing but after they read the warning they will be forwarded to google to remove zango so they cant access your site

<script>
var agt=navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase();
if (agt.indexOf("zango")!=-1) {
alert("WARNING - do not close this message - please read -ACCESS TO THIS WEBSITE HAS BEEN DENIED You have what many people call dangerous spyware known as ZANGO installed on your system. We are not here to sell you anything you can remove it for free simply go to google and type REMOVE ZANGO into the search box and you will find many websites to help you remove it.")
window.open('http://www.google.com/search?q=remove+zango','_top');
}
</script>

Careful - the guy still has to walk through doors....

SmokeyTheBear 10-17-2006 07:46 AM

if someone like THEHUN put this on his main page, i bet zango's clout would vanish overnight :)

Good work Smokey if you watch your traffic logs I bet you will find that zango is less than half of 1 % Of all traffic.

Devilporn 10-17-2006 07:57 AM

Good shit smokey! Let's keep this thread at top on GFY for everyone to see!
Maybe a mod here could make it a sticky thread? :Graucho

NoWhErE 10-17-2006 07:59 AM

yup thats about what my logs reflect.. about 1% of the most gullible people :)

Those are the ones we want to keep.. :)

Frankly i want to keep 100% of my traffic..

p.s. im going to update the script to include some other offenders that should bring that % way up..

viva celebs 10-17-2006 08:00 AM

nice 1 smokey! :thumbsup

SmokeyTheBear 10-17-2006 08:01 AM

p.s. if you want to help remove zango surfers AND make money at the same time simply use the second script and instead of pointing them to google to remove zango , point them to your favourite antivirus affilliate program

Tuga 10-17-2006 08:04 AM

Nice one Smokey!

ohh i really like that idea very smart !!

SmokeyTheBear 10-17-2006 08:04 AM

i dont know anything about this company but heres an affiliate program for antispyware

http://www.spyzooka.com/affiliates

so you can make money while cleaning up the internet at the same time

Sosa 10-17-2006 08:06 AM

very nice smokey but be careful what "Spyware" programs you sending them too. Alot of them are adware themselves.

darksoul 10-17-2006 08:08 AM

wow, how did you come up with this wonderfull idea ?

Phoenix 10-17-2006 08:11 AM

smokey you are one smart cookie

viva celebs 10-17-2006 08:12 AM

a way to make money out of it aswell, smokey rocks my world!

Tom_PM 10-17-2006 08:13 AM

Why not forward them to your cookied sponsors also to reset the cookies. Would that lead to an endless loop?

yes, and a lot of them also block/delete cookies so sending traffic their way will like be shooting yourself in the foot :(
If you want to send your adware infected visitors to an AV site, send them to Spybot Search&Destroy (no affiliate program, but they won't go after your cookies).

So what is AFF doing about it?

that wouldnt work but perhaps setting a timeout script to focus the page after say 3 seconds would blur zango's popups thus the surfer clicks through your links and is thus resetting the cookie back to himself instead of zango.

well i did it to test for someone who had zango a few days ago , and was working on a shared script but this seemed much easier..

p.s. i like your idea 2 .. htaccess is a much broader solution , but some webmasters dont know or want to fiddle with their htaccess so javascript is ahandy solution..

seeric 10-17-2006 08:43 AM

smokey is solid.

Klen 10-17-2006 08:44 AM

Well it is always good to warn spyware warning.

The only problem with putting REMOVE ZANGO into the search bar is that 2 of the top 3 results, go to Zango's website. :)

Spin them to the spybot S&D website thats the best option

pradaboy 10-17-2006 10:17 AM

Kudos Smokey, good solution!

NyLoS 10-17-2006 10:27 AM

I don't think many people will act, a lot of warning popup are being denied !
Maybe its just affecting 3% of the infected...

_Lush_ 10-17-2006 10:54 AM

both of these domains list spyware removal links if you want to add them to the script inplace of the google link

http://www.zangoremover.com
http://www.zangocleaner.com

NOTE: I own both these domains so any clicks would generate ppc revenue for myself:)

Well stats might only show them getting 1% of your traffic, but I think the % of sales is much higher. The first time my surfer goes to a sponsor's site is after they hit my site and clicked around, and they click the signup link. "adware" like zango is popping up their windows on my premium traffic. The traffic that I have already sold and are sending them to the signup page to join. So I wouldn't be surprised if they are only 1% of hits but 5 - 10% of loss of sales.

If you making 20,000 a week and you use 10%, it adds up. Even if you just making 2,000 a week and you lose 10%, it still adds up. And that is just one "adware" company. How much of our total sales do you think is being lost to all the "adware" companies.

Does AFF buy traffic from any other adware companies ?

mrkris 10-17-2006 12:15 PM

I just did a search through my logs for this month. A low low traffic site. 223 zango hits so far. Already setup mod_rewrite for it, just need to decide who to redirect to.

Brujah 10-17-2006 12:18 PM

I would like all of you to let me have that "insignificant" .5% of your traffic. Thanks! :)

ilbb 10-17-2006 12:25 PM

nice shot! fuck off ZANGO!
