I am not one for labels or one to say I know the truth about the world or whats around it. Perhaps we were put here by God, or aliens, or perhaps what is, is, for no explanation. The question is, are humans smart enough to ever figure out the truth? Would we understand it if it stared us in the face? Maybe there is no truth to figure out and we all suck.
I hardly classify atheists as 'free-thinkers' and I dont know what an agnostic is
There's many different classifications of atheism and agnosticism...just as any other religion.
And...yoinked from Wikipedia..."Agnosticism is the philosophical view that the truth value of certain claims ? particularly theological claims regarding the existence of God, gods, or deities ? is unknown or inherently unknowable. Some agnostics take a stronger view that the concept of a deity is incoherent, thus meaningless and irrelevant to life."

Agnostic bordering on athiest. I'd LIKE to believe in a higher being, I just don't have the ability to. While I'm not a big fan of organized religion, I DO envy those that can believe unconditionally. My problem with religion stems from what some people DO with their beliefs however.
The main turn-off of most isms is the organization/community/institutional aspect of their whole thing... dogma is as dogma does... I think I like the phrase "freethinker" more than anything, such as agnosticism or atheism, which may attempt to define my sense of the greater mysteries or awareness of a conciousness higher than ours, which seems to come and go with me.
What I mean by the last is that the more I try to make sense of it all or define it, the more justification or "plan" I try to perceive, the less there seems to be; whereas I begin to "sense" it after all when I'm completely elsewhere, zenned into my life, unconcerned and as far from "teh Big Questions" as you could get...
Which is when you start looking for the pattern, and it disappears...

I've slowly been getting more involved in the local free-thinker community here in Vegas.
A site for people interested, http://www.secular.org They're striving to bring light on non-theistic viewpoints regarding governmental issues.
The Secular Coalition for America is a lobbying group representing atheists, secular humanists, and freethinkers in American politics. It's currently represented in Washington, D.C. by Lori Lipman Brown, who I got to see speak a couple weeks ago.

Atheist. I like Richard Dawkins, he talks a lot of sense but can come across as quite smarmy sometimes. Atheists need to be more missionary and charismatic .
