Odd in a way this is "news" - it's no more than the General Assembly knew already - tho they may not have done the verbal in public.
Chavez's references to "reforming the United Nations" are also generally agreed by the General Assembly. What's the obstacle? The US Admin again. Democracy is a good word to use, but applying it in reality and giving it to nations outside the Security Council is a problem. "We" obviously know best
UNITED NATIONS (AP) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez took his verbal battle with the United States to the floor of the U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday, calling President Bush "the devil."
"The devil came here yesterday," Chavez said. "He came here talking as if he were the owner of the world."
The leftist leader, who joined Iran last week in an alliance against U.S. influence, accused Washington of "domination, exploitation and pillage of peoples of the world."
"We appeal to the people of the United States and the world to halt this threat, which is like a sword hanging over our head," he said.
He also said the United Nations in its current system "doesn't work" and is "antidemocratic."
Chavez called for reform, saying the U.S. government's "immoral veto" had allowed recent Israeli bombings of Lebanon to continue unabated for more than a month.
"Venezuela once again proposes today that we reform the United Nations," he said.XXX TLD's - Another mosquito to swat.Comment

Chavez recently attended a meeting in Havana in which all the world's scumbags were there (Ahmadinejad & Co). He has created a 'nonaligned group' of dictators, etc.
Chavez is also allowing Hizballah, the terrorist group, to operate freely in one of Venezuela's provinces, where they are indoctrinating the local Indian tribe in Islam.
He has also tried to change the constitution so that he can rule for another 20 odd years.
Somewhere there is a very lucky bullet with Chavez's name on it, I'm happy to say. It's just a matter of time.Comment

You are using an article by Gustavo Coronel as the basis of your information and a balanced view??Originally posted by Lazonby

You seriously need to get better news sources.
Sure.. there is a claim by Coronel of "infiltration" by Hezbollah and this has been purveyed around blogs and the usual slanted websites - along with the usual range of diversions. Coronel is the only person with "proof" - unfortunately he can't provide this.
When challenged (June 2006) even the traditional "US spokesman" had to admit there was "no proof Hezbollah has set up operations in Venezuela".
You will also find "movies" on the net with similar claims, but they never seem to manage to present actual proof of anything. Wonder why and what the motivation is in producing these movies?? Duh??
Of course Hezbollah are in Venezuela - they are in many countries, including the US. Does that mean Bush is harboring terrorists and "allowing Hizballah, the terrorist group, to operate freely??"
Is this report supposed to be the basis of the claim that "he as also tried to change the constitution"??Originally posted by Lazonby

The constitution has never been changed and contrary to claims otherwise, - Chavez has announced on many occasions he has no intention of standing for longer than two terms of office.
Samples..
Caracas - President Hugo Chavez rejected a proposal to
amend the country's constitution so that he could be reelected more than
once as president. Chavez said yesterday during his weekly television
program, ?Alo Presidente? that two terms of 6 years in office is enough.
The amendment proposal had been made by, Luis Velasquez Alvaray, a
pro-government legislator who is currently a candidate for the Supreme
Court.
Associated Press Falsely Portrays Chavez as Seeking 25-Year Term
Monday, May 08, 2006
A little scrutiny of a recent Associated Press report about Venezuela provides a lesson in how the English-language press often gets the story wrong. Take the first sentence: "President Hugo Chavez said Saturday that Venezuelan voters should have the chance to decide whether he should govern the country for the next 25 years."
No, such a referendum would not be about "whether he should govern the country for the next 25 years." A referendum would be about whether Chavez would be permitted to run every six years and --in the event that he were to continue winning elections-- serve multiple presidential terms. The AP report's opening sentence makes it sound as if such a referendum would do away with elections in Venezuela, as if its intent would be to grant Chavez a new 25-year term in office! The website of The Calgary Sun even titles the wire report "Chavez seeking 25-year term"!!
This is obviously an extremely poor piece of reporting. Chavez made it clear that, if the opposition committed to participating in the upcoming presidential election, he would not convoke a referendum to end presidential term limits. He explained that the intent of his threat to convoke such a referendum was not to perpetuate himself in power but rather to defend the Bolivarian Revolution.XXX TLD's - Another mosquito to swat.Comment
