People that start out smart and knowledgeable on here, and decline over time...

There have been a few, not many, but a few people that come to GFY and seem to be really shrewed businessmen...and they really get people excited with how smart they are and how much business they could potentially bring to the table

these are almost always newbies to this biz, but have been working in other fields for quite some time....

then something happens along their path in adult that sets them off, someone treated them wrong or they got ripped off, and it sets them off down a really dark path until they finally become a joke to their peers

there are a few of those guys that are active posters on gfy, and it is kind of sad really, that someone had so much potential, but their balls were the size of peas and they couldn't take one negative thing happening

Phoenix 07-12-2006 07:44 AM

If you walk in the mud everyday, sooner or later you are going to fall in and get dirty.

I was thinking that yesterday. This place is growing up on me too much lately.
I just moved to a new city and I don't want to get into the nightlife anymore... so I just stick arround here (i used to work 3-6 hours a day and party the rest of the time).

I spend so much time arround boards right now it's just incredible, but at the same time I'm loosing motivation for other things. I just don't see this leading nowhere anymore.

AmateurFlix 07-12-2006 08:30 AM

I think alot of people learn quickly that carrying proper business etiquette and formality isn't really appropriate here (thus the url) however whatever leads to alienq style self-destructive ranting I don't know...

you know, I think about him way more than I need to...mainly because I would love to know what is happening inside his head as he goes off on his little tangents and burns bridges left and right...I know there is way more to it than a wierd guy with a temper

but then I see that he is married and shit, and what wife would put up with someone like him....ug, my brain hurts too much thinking about him

I am the same way man...it is funny, but I track hits when I post links on gfy, and I also do trace browsing....I get more people clicking through my links from gfy and surfing like a surfer would surf....and barely anyone clicking through and checking out anything I have to offer webmasters

while I really don't want to believe that 90% of this board is surfers, the signs are all pointing that way

Serge Litehead 07-12-2006 08:44 AM

"they couldn't take one negative thing happening" and it becomes a snowball pretty fast, one thing leads to another and before they realise work/life becomes a huge mess. sad really.

I don't think that's the case. The problem is that there are 1000s of programs right now and nobody gives a shit anymore... When you've had program reps hitting you up every week for years, you don't give a flying fuck what the new hot program is, you already have your business together.

Newbies don't succeed easily in this business anymore. It's becoming harder and harder.

Trixxxia 07-12-2006 08:51 AM

Jace, in the case of a few, I don't think they are crazy or were crazy - but I think that somewhere along the line, they are tired of not being recognized for their work, accomplishments or success (something they believe in and are proud of). That not only angers them but gets them to go 'off' the backend with their replies.

In here, you take 98% of what you read of the 'good threads', which are few and far between - and still discard it, then take that 2% of good info and ponder & build on it for your benefit.

Don't let anyone pissing in here get you down - ever. They don't pay your bills, they don't know your life experiences, they don't walk in your shoes, they don't know your 'real' situation - hence, they can never understand your decisionmaking. Getting offended by ignorance to who you are and what you know and do is useless. Anger takes up valuable energy you can be using for your profit rather than pageviews which give you little in return.

AmateurFlix 07-12-2006 09:41 AM

I agree totally...I have always stood by the fact that one should never take anything seriously on the boards except for business. Fucking around is just fucking around, sometimes it gets a little too nast for my tastes, but then I just stay away from that type of shit.

This reminds me of The Lawnmower Man when the once mentally challenged Jobe became smart and replied to his former mentor Dr. Lawrence Angelo:

"Dr. Angelo, as you may have realized by now, my intelligence has far surpassed yours" :1orglaugh

pocketkangaroo 07-12-2006 10:06 AM

I also think that some people feel they have to be a complete dickhead to get noticed around here. There have been quite a few people who made it big by getting in pissing matches, saying off-the-wall things, and so on. Other new people see it and feel it's the way to get things done. The "anything for sig views" approach. Talk about how 9/11 was good, make a racist comment, or flame a popular program for no reason. Only a handful of guys do it well, and they are the only ones that should be doing it.

I just wish that people would try to build up their reputation through good business and good sites. Reminds me of the Studio Cash guy who got into it with everyone and tried to feed his ego. The guy did shit in terms of money and new affiliates. It's sad because he actually had some nice sites, it's just everyone was turned off by him.

There's an neo Greek expression:

"A man has to watch where he puts 2 things: his signature and his dick"

So obviously anything written eponymously even in cyberspace should be thought out beforehand.

PS in Greek it rhymes :)

i noticed the board was feeling kind of dark today. lots of pissed off people posting hateful things today. thats when i start really paying attention to which threads i even want to click on. because i read the content on some of these threads and just scratch my head and wonder why people post the things they do..

Yeah - I remember when Lensman was offering nice prizes to the thread of the day. For that span of time - people were actually using their heads and starting up great discussions daily & everyone replying followed to build on that thread.

Nowadays, no matter how good your thread, there are many who neither know how or what to contribute to a good thread. Can you blame them? No - they don't know any better (& it's their bread and butter for the most part)

Bro my posts about hitler were a crap joke to see what people said. I am nice. Be my friend.

OldSchoolJim 07-12-2006 12:20 PM

Jace...this seems to happen to almost everyone in the biz at one time or another....

In my opinion what happens is just boredom.

There is nothing fresh happening in this biz anymore to keep everyone interested...it is really the same old same old...just in a newer wrapper.

the only time it seems anyone gets a rise is when the government trys some new shit to stop all the free porn on the net...

This industry tends to drown out forward thinking people by the sheer proliferation of the daily grind...as soon as something new comes along it is attacked or copied by everyone within minutes it seems and the idea becomes totally uninteresting.

The true forward thinkers in this biz are the ones who are criticized for being cheaters or scammers because they are coming up with new ways to make $$ that buck the "system"...and they are branded as such....

most folks on this board tend to look down on new ways of doing things cause it does not fit into their 9-5 way of selling porn....

Believe me when i say it...they paysite as we know it is dead...it has just forgotten to fall down yet...

we have almost squeezed every drop of juice from this fruit and if you cannot adapt and change...you will be forever stuck on GFY complaining about your 1:10,000 conversion ratio.....the internet is happening OUT there...the more time you spend in here...the more you miss it passing you by.....:2 cents:

anne 07-12-2006 12:40 PM

I agree that the boards can be mind numbing. I try not to post to any junk threads and stay true on the boards to who i am in person. I do however think that they still are a great way to meet other people in the biz, get some business done and learn something. However that being said somedays the boards are full of junk. On those days you just spend more time doing other things. Its like anything in life its all about balance. Balance the boards with getting your shit done and you can reap some benifits from it.

If this was true, you wouldn't have come up to me in Ft Lauderdale scared you'd get your ass kicked.

It's just the mix Jace. "Everyone" and their dogs are here - along with the occasional asylum patient :winkwink:

If you stuffed GFY into a real life scenario - eg conference room, most folks would appear rational, with the exception a few exhibitionists.

It's very hard to say GFY is an "adult webmaster board". That suggests it is predominately related to ... well... "adult webmastering" and covering elements of business, design, coding, hosting, photography etc. In reality, GFY is has a very small element of "webmastering" and a much bigger element where "affiliate fodder" spam - plus a mix of totally unrelated threads (some of which can have "content" and reasonable read.)

Sure, there are a number of actual biz people here and many with very intereresting track records and much to offer. It may be more than coincidence, the vast majority of "adult webmasters" I know of, never visit GFY - it's just not a biz forum.

Who knows, but smell there may be a tolerance level with other adult webmasters when they have to plough thru "Would you hit it" threads and utter garbage - bottom line, GFY is not exactly a format to attract any serious biz discussion. Sometimes this can get seriously sad and have no doubts, does not represent the majority of folks within the adult biz.

Folks may start off with something to offer other than 1000 sig posts, but hell, - a few sessions here and it's obvious there is little point.

GFY is almost like the "National Enquirer" of the adult biz - it's hard to expect any serious business ideas/potential to ooze from between the pages :)

So, I got respect for ya Relish whether your biz hat is on or off :thumbsup

although I agree with most of the rest of your post, I take exception to this - there is alot of business discussed on this board, however it's such a small % of the overall posts that it gets ignored
