soccer will never be popular in the u.s . main reason is that this game has no breaks for commercials breaks . it's 90 minutes of one half break during the entire match , unlike basketball , football , hockey , golf - they all have many breaks for commercials :2 cents:

In europe, the best athletes grow up playing soccer. In the US, the best athletes play primetime sports.

Advertising and sponsorship deals for the 2010 and 2014 world cups have already sold out. The packages started at $150 million. Obviously Visa, MacDonalds, Nike etc have wasted their money backing second rate human beings.

Basically football is an international sport with followers (and vested financial interests) in the billions. Nothing wrong with American football - as you say, it's a national sport. Trying to compare a country with less than 5% of world population to an international sport is pointless.

Winning the World Cup would GO A LONG WAY in making soccer more popular in the USA. What I don't get is why it's not more popular in the US since manykids have soccer programs.

I just hate watching sports, period. I like to watch football, and that's just to follow my fantasy football players.
