ICQ frigging sucks - Why not MSN messenger instead?

Everybody here seems to be still using this flawed ICQ system, it's a memory hog and just doesn't deliver like other im software like MSN messenger.

Can anybody tell me why ICQ is preferred?

Jace 07-09-2006 07:41 AM

I like the icq service mainly because of the offline messaging feature...but I haven't used the icq program in years....Trillain fucking rules, anyone that still uses the icq software obviously loves torture

NoWhErE 07-09-2006 07:41 AM

Hmm, just checked memory.

ICQlite : 8k
Msn : 22k

I like ICQ's simplicity. I haven't had a problem with it... never.

MSN often crashes for me, freezes up my computer or shows me as offline to all my contacts. And at least ICQ doesn't have that full on collection of annoying smilies and nudges that every knob sends to ya just to annoy you

VicD 07-09-2006 07:42 AM

Too much of a hassle to change things, ICQ is ok

Damian_Maxcash 07-09-2006 07:52 AM

A lot of people here have been around for a while - ICQ used to be the best (only) option. It just seems to have stuck in this industry...

You have to use what your peers are using and so it goes on.

pussyluver 07-09-2006 08:04 AM

MSN creates conflicts, falls offline and is just as much a piece of shit as anything else.

L0rdJuni0r 07-09-2006 08:05 AM

TRILLION......... :thumbsup

Violetta 07-09-2006 08:07 AM

I like msn much better...

MakingCoin_Fatal 07-09-2006 08:10 AM

yea.. me too.. i prefer icq...

Trillian roxors. I have Aim, Yahoo, Msn, and Icq all running. I can run multible instances of each too, so if I want to run two seperate icq #s I can etc etc.

BoyAlley 07-09-2006 08:52 AM

I have no idea why/how/when ICQ became the standard in this industry. I use it because I have to.

exactly, i tink it runs really slow and is too complicated. too many options... no-one of my friends use it... no-one knows what it is. :)

scottybuzz 07-09-2006 09:15 AM

yeh same here, id prefer msn because everyone else i know in real life is on msn

MaddCaz 07-09-2006 09:21 AM

or how about AIM

Pandemos 07-09-2006 09:40 AM

ICQ and Y!M make my system grind to a halt. MSN is the only messenger I've used that works without any hassle at all.

Sultry_Selenia 07-09-2006 11:05 AM

Trillian all the way :)

Slap Dot 07-09-2006 11:16 AM

GAIM for life :)

Mr. Romance 07-09-2006 11:20 AM

Mr. Romance

Doctor Dre 07-09-2006 11:21 AM

MSN messenger sucks when you have 500 + people on your list.

chupachups 07-09-2006 11:38 AM

Gayme... err GAIM Rox!

selena 07-09-2006 11:45 AM

Icq is my program of choice.

xpics 07-09-2006 12:01 PM

What is GAIM?

fg4us 07-09-2006 12:08 PM

I use Trillian Pro...
I bought it around 1 year ago and I am loving it...
I have now 3 MSN accounts, 2 ICQ , 2 Yahoo! and 1 AIM running at same time with different photos and profiles, very good.
About offline messages, the newest MSN Live Messenger already support offiline messages.

Sultry_Selenia 07-09-2006 12:58 PM

xpics:
From the GAIM site:
"Gaim is a multi-protocol instant messaging (IM) client for Linux, BSD, MacOS X, and Windows. It is compatible with AIM and ICQ (Oscar protocol), MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, SILC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, Lotus Sametime, and Zephyr networks."

Doctor Dre 07-09-2006 01:00 PM

I bought trillian pro a while ago ... it kept fucking on me, database corruption etc etc.

Xplicit 07-09-2006 01:31 PM

ICQ makes some webmasters feel cool, its an outdated piece of shit technologoy, BUT, you get a number instead of a screen name, making it way more 31337.

madawgz 07-09-2006 03:10 PM

icq is used by alot of webmasters, msn is used mainly for friends...

u-Bob 07-09-2006 03:13 PM

miranda-im.org

BaldBishop 07-09-2006 03:44 PM

I use Trillian.

soulswagon 07-09-2006 03:51 PM

I've used Trillian Pro for a couple years (since version 2). I'd hate to have to use anything else. Like other's above, I have all my IM accounts (except google's new chat) all in one IM app.

xpics 07-09-2006 04:51 PM

i've used trillian before, i didn't like the interface....

Kimo 07-09-2006 05:18 PM

i like that we use icq because i pretty much have a seperate messanger for business!

Alot of us use icq because thats what we started with. Persoally I like yahoo a lot better. Although I still run icq to chat with my buddies who refuse to convert over.

:D

djroof 07-09-2006 05:25 PM

Just now installed new MSN Live Messenger!

TheJimmy 07-09-2006 05:29 PM

ICQ is old school, became the industry standard years ago...

Does MSN have a few nice features ICQ doesn't? yappp
Does ICQ have a feature or two I like over MSN? yappp
Do they both crash too often? yappp

I haven't used an actual ICQ client in ages, trillian or miranda-im.org all the way :thumbsup

Why pick ONE IM service to deal on? I guess I'm a little overly connected but I don't often like to argue with someone over preferences that don't really affect me...

Do you mind if I like brocoli as long as the point was to get together for a bite to eat?

BJ 07-09-2006 05:32 PM

I still use icq 2001. like the simplicity

Firehorse 07-09-2006 05:45 PM

Trllian Pro all the way. :thumbsup
