Stealing wireless internet should be a crime.
Stealing unprotected connections should be a crime. :2 cents:

true....
Mr. Romance |
there are convictions for this
|
I agree it's like stealing anything else that somebody pays for
|
funny i'm doing it now...
|
Yup, it already is a crime, it's just not prosecuted very often.

I don't mind sustaining the poor kid downstairs doing his algebra homework. 2hp |
Problem is that a clueless 1st time buyer can buy a brand new laptop with wireless built in, turn it on, open explorer and be online. They wouldnt know how or why, so I wouldnt want to lock them up.
Actively seeking out and breaking encryptions etc., absolutely. But clueless people, nah. |
well keep your RF out of my property , or i'll sue you for tresspassing
your RF frying my brain , putting me at risk of cancer , and you complain abut me "stealing it " |
i think someone got arrested for it before
|
Give it 10 more years and every metro city will have free wireless everywhere anyway. I've heard of one city with it already.

things do get tricky when you have public hotspots setup
ppl get used to the idea of hotspots that they are free to use , then you have your next door neighbour that gets that shiny new access point , plugs it in your laptop detects a wireless network you start thing great a hotspot in my area |

People who steal are bad! Unless however they give it all back to the poor!

$2-3k bandwidth. Spammers who hijack desktops and servers and turn them zombies are guilty of numerous federal cyber crimes. If you don't turn on at least basic security on your wireless connection, you are inviting piracy.. |
I dont think there's anything wrong with it... I leave my wireless unlocked so people can use it if they want. Just like when im travelling I appretiate it when others leave their routers open for me.
People need to trust each other a little more and be a little more friendly :2 cents: |

It's illegal to gain unauthorized access to a private server... if the wireless network is open it wouldn't be considered a private. If you hack someones protected server or network then thats a different story. |

Who cares, if you don't want anyone to use your connection, just lock it.
|
The county deputies use mine all the time..
Lots of em with computers in their cars have sniffers and use at will.. |
When I'm at school and living in an apartment where EVERY unit has wireless.. some signals are stronger than others, so my wireless just connects to them.
|
It should be a crime to not secure your connection...
|
protect your shit and it wont get stolen. There are about 6 people around me with wireless networks. None of them secure. heh

We had a guy move in next door a while back, and he saw that we had an antenna on the roof. the antenna is for our connection it is using an FM signal. Anyway, he accused my husband of stealing the neighbors connection. My husband told him he was out of his mind, and left it at that. A few months later we come home at night, and the guy is standing in his side yeard as close to our house as he can get, and he has a tablet pc in his hands. Well up to that point, we had not wep enabled our router because there was no need. Well the hubby went upstairs, and set the wep. The guy next door started screaming and yelling that we were stealing HIS connection. It was amazing.
