US threatening sanctions against Sweden

The US was not happy when after it pressured Sweden into raiding and taking all the servers where The Pirate Bay was hosted that the site returned shortly after. Since Sweden didn't properly obey US orders they are now facing a number of sanctions including being blacklisted at the UN. When will these silly rogue countries learn?

Swedish secretary of state Dan Eliasson confirmed the information stating:
Quote:

I know that the USA has opinions as it comes to the effectiveness of our system when it comes to copyright and that Sweden and other countries aren't following thier international agreements. There are sanction mechanisms in the USA, and this has been pointed out from their side.
Sweden threatened with Trade Sanctions by the US over the Piratebay
however, the US says Sweden's secretary of state is a liar, Pirate Bay Row Continues

We as Danes support the US in the war on terror and will support the US in this case by not allowing Swedes to buy beer in Denmark :D

Listen smart ass. Of course tht place links to 'stolen' content, just like GUBA...However, when the law in Sweden is like that, the US should shut up. And then threaten them with UN sanctions LOL.

Oh well, the US government is not taken very serious anymore anyway....Everyone is laughing at Bush, time for the elections...Because a strong US economy is good for the whole world economy too...

America imports most of what it consumes... you'd better hope other countries don't take the attitude you support of sanctioning countries who don't do what you want...:2 cents:

The profits made on those imports will easily cover the cost of their domesticly produced replacements ;)

Either that or what one country wont produce another will.

Bottom line is.. america wins.:1orglaugh :1orglaugh

idiots..:1orglaugh :1orglaugh

lol, dude, let me explain few basic things for you

Can you name your favourite Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or Romanian song????

No, you can't, and neither can 99% of the people in the World that do not live in the above mentioned countries. What the US effectively fights for is DOMINATION in the music, movie etc industries, making it almost impossible for countries that can not allocate mega budgets to enter these industries internationally

with that said I am against piracy, but the whole issues is much much deeper

and btw who the fuck are they to tell Sweden what to do in their own country???

Choppa 06-23-2006 08:33 AM

yeah what the fuck business is it of the US if servers are in sweden

US needs to learn it cant have its finger in every pie

i was also lead to beleive that the pirate bays servers are now in NL ?

jacked 06-23-2006 08:33 AM

so when are we going to get nuked by korea?

SWEDEN IS PROTECTING AND SHELTERING A WEBSITE THAT IS COSTING THE PORN INDUSTRY A SHITLOAD OF MONEY AND YOU IDIOTS KEEP BAD MOUTHING THE US GOVERNMENT FOR TRYING TO SHUT IT DOWN.

I don't understand your first line... how does someone make profits on something they are buying? Domestically produced replacements would cost more, that's why they are being imported instead. If another country produces them it will cost more, or we would be going through them in the first place. America wins? Paying higher prices at the register is winning? In that case we should shut down the entire internet since it is costing traditional media outlets a shitload of money. Newspapers are having a particularly tough time.:upsidedow

Bottom line, The Pirate Bay was not breaking laws in it's own country.

anyplace could get into the music industry if they so desired. it's a big industry but it's not an industry with huge up front expenses. look at the number of performers who set up their own record labels after only a brief success.

if you set aside the typical rhetoric about the US sticking it's nose into areas where it doesn't belong, this is no different than going after any other country that supports or tolerates abuse of property rights. ie china with unlicensed copies of microsoft products etc. if their government allows our citizens to be victimized by this kind of theft then that government shouldn't expect ours to be on good terms with them. it's not that hard to understand is it?

I guess in your little world oursourcing isn't profitable. And it makes no sense to let third world nations to produce goods for pennies on the dollar.

you know there was a time when wal-mart style retail didn't exsist in america and we produced most of everything domestically and got along just fine.. what makes you think we couldn't go there again?:1orglaugh :1orglaugh

We are already outsourcing for the cheapest possible. That's why the Walmart style retail is able to be as huge as it is and allows people who otherwise would be considered below the poverty level to live comfortably. If those countries suddenly stopped supplying cheap goods and we had to produce everything domestically the standard of living has not kept up with what that increase would be and the results would be true poverty for many now considered middle-class. America has been steered to the point where it can't afford "made in the USA".:2 cents:

ControlThy 06-23-2006 09:13 AM

The US denies threatening Sweden with sanctions:
http://www.sr.se/cgi-bin/Internation...artikel=884893

Sweden is a member of the European Union. If the US would really initiate sanctions on Sweden the European Union would take action as they are bound by treaties to do so. Do you really think the US would go that far? I don't think so. The EU and US have the world's biggest trade relationship.

my god just think! we might be returned back to the poverty america was experiencing just a few decades ago. minimum wage wal-mart workers would have to return to thier higher paying manufacturing jobs. Factories would have to be reopened. the economy would strengthen..

it would be devastating.:1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Shit mardigras - I was just going to have a relaxing breakfast, but suspect I'll spew up over the table now :winkwink:

Don't ya just love titles like... "The US threatens...", "The US has declared..", "The US ordered..." ?

No wonder nobody gives a fuck - diplomatic communications skills were never on the table, - just a load of rambling bullshit threats, "declarations" that supposed to be gospel and "orders" nobody is going to take. Plus - the old favorite "sanctions" which never did work.

I'm surprised the US is not going to do a "nuke em" over "Pirate Bay" - that is one serious load of shit :1orglaugh

BUT... The plus side is - it's easier to mouth off at Sweden over a website than mouth off at your favorite loan-provider - the Central Bank of China - for China's mass infringement of international copyright. :winkwink: We need the daily loan of $3 bill to get thru the weekend :pimp

Now... breakfast! :winkwink:

That's a nice "what if", my post was a "what is" but this exchange runs well off-topic of the thread subject, which is one country demanding another follow their laws which is contrary to their own (especially one with the power to push it).

Sweden should have told the US that their law was not being broken, end of discussion.

China and other fast developing countries would take up the slack of buying any goods (especially fuels) turned down by the US after any foot stamping temper tantrum of not getting their way:upsidedow (would never happen though, TPTB would never let the administration shoot themselves in their own collective feet:winkwink:).

Your scenario can never be a reality as long as the ones profiting from the way things are now are running the show and I don't see that changing any time forseeable.:Oh crap

this threads subject is happening in a little mini condensed version here:
fucking-around-and-business-discussion/625197-bet-content-massive-stolen-solo-girl-content-stockpile-site.html

I don't see anyone in that thread calling airek "evil" and "fucked up" for overstepping his bounds for trying to stop illegal distribution of content.

Well what he is trying to do is pretty much exactly what the US government is trying to do. Shut down illegal content distribution.

And for anyone to defend sweden and the pirate bay in this industry is just like if someone hopped in that thread to defend that jerkoff from "bulletinboardforum". Fucking idiocy.

You're missing the point. The piratebay got nothing to do with the US, but with swedish law. It's legal over there to host a bittorrent tracker. I don't see why swedes should abide US law? You call that democratic?

Maybe the US should make laws for every country in the world. Would make things easier, don't you think? (America would stay the homeland of god and it's masterrace)

So lets say for example child porn is legal in XYZ country, US shouldn't pressure the XYZ government to put an end to it?
