Idiot wasn't wearing a helmet either.

WebairGerard 06-12-2006 10:11 AM

I hope he is OK

fitzmulti 06-12-2006 10:13 AM

Ya, it is a mess. Watching live TV coverage here (in Vegas) online from a TV station there. Lots of confusion, and words like "critical" don't sound good.
:(

Mr. Romance 06-12-2006 10:14 AM

dammm, that sucks, the only things i fear in the world are motorcycles, and women (the pain of love)

Helmet or no helmet anyone with the potential to set himself up for life by dedicating a few years to sports is an idiot.

What might be a minor arm or leg injury could cost millions to someone at his level.

Miss Lissa 06-12-2006 10:19 AM

Broken neck or not...he'll be on the field in time for football season.
GO STEELERS!!!

Is that confirmed yet? They keep referring to the fact that he prefers not to wear a helmet.

J. Falcon 06-12-2006 10:25 AM

Big Ben was one of the most outspoken people when the KWII motorcycle accident happened last year, kind of bragging about how he would never wear a helmet. I hope this will help him learn why helmets are important.

If he had on a helmet, there wouldn't have been much in the way of head injuries. At least that would be the case with a full face helmet, which I doubt he wears even when he does wear a helmet.

The ESPN break said that he wasn't wearing one.

Miss Lissa 06-12-2006 10:30 AM

No he wasn't wearing a helmet, from what my grandpa says, a lady turned in front of him and his head hit her windsheild and then hit the ground, no word on how bad he is though...

The Pittsburgh TV station I am watching online has eyewitness people interviews stating that he was not wearing a helmet, and there was a lot of blood @ the scene.

Doc from hospital just said he was in "serious, but stable" condition and has just gone into surgery.

NOTHING about a broken neck, so I don't know what that post was about.

TheSenator 06-12-2006 10:35 AM

I hope he is well first then I'll start bashing him for not wearing a helmet.

J. Falcon 06-12-2006 10:36 AM

People are saying he may never play again.

I wouldn't be surprised.

Juilan 06-12-2006 10:38 AM

Damn they don't call 'em donorcycles for nothing

LittleSassy 06-12-2006 10:44 AM

Pity...he has his career right in front ogf him. Now there's a chance that he wont be playing again because of his carelessness

Miss Lissa 06-12-2006 10:44 AM

I think him never playing again is all just hype... I was just on his website, it said that he was still conscious, when he was taken away...

Splum 06-12-2006 10:51 AM

I D I O T

SwankGoat 06-12-2006 10:57 AM

He was concious and alert on way to hospital...Seems like a good guy, hope he is ok.

"Serious" injuries are seldom if ever prevented by a helmet. The brain hitting the inside of the skull is the problem. A helmets purpose is to absorb energy, delaying or reducing sudden deceleration.

The fact is at speed it doesn't really make a difference. You're fucked either way. Whiplash being a major factor in this type of brain damage isn't helped by helmet use either.

Avoiding the accident in the first place is the real issue. Helmets reduce your side vision, reduce your hearing, ... ALL situational awareness levels drop when wearing a helmet.

Roethlisberger continued to ride after Winslow's accident and that angered Terry Bradshaw, who quarterbacked the Steelers to four Super Bowl victories during the 1970s.

Visiting the Steelers' training camp last summer, Bradshaw remarked: "Ride it when you retire."

In May 2005, Steelers coach Bill Cowher lectured Roethlisberger on the dangers of riding without a helmet.

owned.....

Miss Lissa 06-12-2006 11:16 AM

He'll be alright. He'll be leading the Steelers to another Super Bowl this season...

You mean minor cosmetic injuries ... Please don't spread the fairy-tale that accidents are ok if you are wearing a helmet ...

smack 06-12-2006 12:10 PM

That pretty much says it all. Stupid is as stupid does.

http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/...67/detail.html

Roethlisberger suffered a broken jaw, broke his left sinus cavity, suffered a 9-inch laceration to the back of his head, lost many teeth and has severe injuries to his knees from hitting the pavement.

SxDx 06-12-2006 12:57 PM

not sure why anyone with his profile would risk losing everything with behavior like this. just doesn't make sense unless he insured his ass at lloyd's of london for an obscene amount of money.

sweetgirl2006 06-12-2006 01:29 PM

nope no reason too.

SgtStrider 06-12-2006 02:17 PM

Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, and FUCK!! God damn him.

Three months before I was born my father was hit by a little old man and sent flying 150 feet down the highway. He landed on his face and had he not had a helmet and full leathers, I'd have grown up fatherless.

They might not save you each and every time, but without one...you don't even have a chance.

Miss Lissa 06-12-2006 03:50 PM

If he never plays football again, it will be because of his busted knees, which a helmet would have done no good to protect...

Candy, not to argue but back then he would have had an open-face helmet ... my point is NOT pro/con helmet ... my point is do not get a false feeling of safety just because you are wearing one.

Andiz 06-12-2006 03:57 PM

He fucking had it coming, I just saw an interview of him on ESPN2.
The tough guy didn't need a helmet......and he was driving the fastest street legal bike (Hayabusa). He was sure that he would never crash

What goes around, comes around...........
