Webmasterdirect are spyware installing fuckers

http://www.google.com/search?hl=nl&q...zoeken&met a=

Plus they redirect 25% of your traffic. They send ff users to their own sponsor.

Dirty F 05-17-2006 05:03 PM

Sponsors supporting spyware installs:

PlatinumBucks
Python
EpicCash
PornKings

Dirty F 05-17-2006 05:03 PM

Plus they lie to affiliates by saying they are spyware free.

Here is a recent article on a $4mil judgement against some spyware guys..
http://www.informationweek.com/news/... reaking+News

This link within the above article I found interesting too. Especially page 9 where it shows sponsors who payed them to do this stuff.(PDF)

Interesting article here

http://antivirus.about.com/od/virusd...ransomware.htm

Victims complain that MoviePass.tv (also known as MovieLand.com and MediaPipe) installs itself without their knowledge and displays intrusive pop-ups demanding a $99 licensing fee.

According to those who have encountered MoviePass.tv on their systems, there is no single uninstall entry in Add/Remove Programs and the terms of the licensing agreement expressly prohibits uninstalling the software. Instead, posters to various self-help forums across the Internet maintain that victims must follow a specific set of MoviePass.tv removal instructions in order to fully remove the program and stop the incessant pop-ups.

How exactly are they related to the spyware installs?

We are 100% spyware free on our Porn Kings sites. We advertise with Webmaster Direct on our exits but at that point when a surfer clicks on the ad they are out of our realm of responsibility. Media has tested and clicked and used Webmaster Direct and there was 0 spyware installs or spyware warnings.

Ehm, that's pretty fucked up reasoning. With that kind of logic, you can justify linking to pretty much anything.

Quite a few other people seem to have tested it as well, with rather different conclusions :2 cents:

Oh btw, you dont care that they redirect ALL firefox users youre sending them to their own sponsor?

Doctor Dre 05-17-2006 06:09 PM

FF users don't count for 25 % of users but that dosen't really matter in this case.

And another nice link

LittleMack 05-17-2006 06:19 PM

There is no malware involved with webmaster direct. We have tested the software and on phone with Media right now and we ahve tested on three different machines and there were no problems with the company. There was no issue with uninstalling the software and no residual effects. Do you really think Media would jeopardize our reputation by advertising a malicious product. If this this was something shady and taking over peoples computers in a malicious way, then the FTC would of shut them down. They have been in operation for many many months now.

No Spyware!

No AdWare!

No Viruses!

LittleMack 05-17-2006 06:21 PM

There are many programs in the industry that use webmaster direct, we would not advertise that was suspect without first conferring with other programs and seeing what their results were without seeing their results and feedback.

marketsmart 05-17-2006 06:25 PM

i sale viruses...

"they have been in business for months now" thats fucking hilarious.... this is why this is now coming to light now... i think its totally shady the way they do things..:2 cents:

A) its hardly the point B) its insulting to anyone with a brain

All I am saying is that with our testing of the product and results of the tests, there is NO MALWARE involved with webmaster direct. There is no way we would put ourselves in jeopardy with our affiliates by advertising a company that is not legit. We have been in business too long to do that.

Thats fine and thats understandable , but to write them off as trustworthy merely by the fact they havent been arrested is silly.

p.s. i also would stick your neck out making claims about other people's business ... ( just some friendly advice )

Im not quite sure how( or why ) you can guarantee there is no walware just by testing 3 computers.. are you aware many trojans only infect people with foreign ip address ? are you also aware many malware sites chek and serve different content depending on who is looking..

all im saying is dont overstep what your qualified to say :winkwink:

only franck was making direct accusations.. if theres spyware there its not your fault , but it is once you become aware of it :)

Of course, was not slamming you at all, just saying that we have talked to other sponsors and with our testing have found nothing. If there is any indication there is a malicious act going on, we would be the first to get rid of advertising. I hear ya on if there is spyware it is not on our side due to their program.

You installed it, deleted it. The end.

However, from what I gathered, if people install it, then wait longer than the "trial" they didn't know they were getting, they are then unable to get the shit from their computer and receive popups.

In other words, scummy ransomware.

What do you think of the fact that they redirect 1000 of hits to their own sponsor page?

Libertine 05-17-2006 06:42 PM

From their site:

http://www.moviepass.tv/terms.html
Quote:

ONCE THE SOFTWARE IS INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER IT WILL CREATE AUTO START FEATURES WITHIN YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM THAT WILL RUN PROCESSES ON YOUR SYSTEM. THESE PROCESSES AND ALL COMPONENTS OF THE SOFTWARE CAN BE COMPLETELY REMOVED SHOULD YOU ELECT TO CANCEL YOUR TRIAL WITHIN THE SPECIFIED TRIAL PERIOD. IF YOU DO NOT CANCEL WITHIN THE SPECIFIED TRIAL PERIOD OUR SOFTWARE LICENSE MANAGEMENT UTILITY WILL STAY ON YOUR COMPUTER AND WILL CONTINUE TO LAUNCH ON START UP OF YOUR COMPUTER UNTIL YOU SATISFY THE OBLIGATIONS YOU AGREED TO WHEN YOU INSTALLED OUR SOFTWARE.
Ofcourse, the user has to click the "I am over 18 years old and agree to the terms" to get to a HUGE fucking contract containing this.

If you use this, you are scum.

Fact: when you do a quick google search for one of the sites run by webmaster direct, a lot of 'horror stories' about spyware/malware turn up.

Once somebody clicks on their ad, the click is theirs ..we have no problem with what they do with their traffic once the click has occurred. We have a traffic trade with them and it has been a mutually beneficial traffic trade. 4% of traffic is nothing in the scheme of things compared to the relationship that we have built with our traffic trade. We would not continue any business relationship if we felt they were doing anything malicious. This is the end of our conversation on this and we would not associate with anything shady. If you continue to throw accusations against us, we will pursue whatever action necessary to get you to desist from these frivolous accusations about the promotion of malware.
