What are the greatest, most memorable movie endings? And can you name this one?

I say this is one of the greatest movie endings, ever.

What are your choices for great movie endings?

Can you name this movie ending?
-----------------------

Amid the chaos of that day,
When all I could hear was the thunder of gunshots,
And all I could smell was the violence in the air,
I look back and I am amazed that my thoughts were so clear and true,
That three words went through my mind endlessly,
Repeating themselves like a broken record,

"your so cool"
"your so cool"
"your so cool"

And sometimes Clarence ask me what I would have done if he had died,
If that bullet had been two inches more to the left,
To this,
I always smile,
As if I'm not going to satisfy this with a response,
But I always do,
I tell him of how I would want to die,
That the anguish and the warm of death would fade with like the stars of time,
And that things would be much the same as now,

Perhaps,

Except maybe I wouldn't have named our son, Elvis.

true romance, great flick

It is one of the great endings to a movie that I have ever seen.

Seven - Gwyneth Paltrow's head in a cardboard box...and then Brad Pitt blows away Kevin Spacey.

Babagirls 05-13-2006 09:51 AM

True Romance was written by Tarantino as well.

I loved Pulp Fiction, but I can't seem to recall the end?

sltr 05-13-2006 10:24 AM

the ending of Chinatown always blows my mind

baddog 05-13-2006 10:27 AM

Birds of Prey (1973) had a pretty cool ending too. I have my doubts any of you have seen it as I believe it was a "made for TV" movie. Wednesday Night at the Movies or something like that.

The "birds of prey" were two helicopters. I am not going to say the ending in case someone goes to get the DVD, but it sure blew me away enough that I remember it 30 years after the last time I saw it.

Dead Zone (an oldie) - Christopher Walken is fatally wounded after his botched assassination attempt - but has one last final 'vision' of Martin Sheen committing suicide and thus preventing Sheen's destiny of becoming President and starting a nuclear war.

Long good friday..

Bob Hoskins being driven away knowing he was dead.

fedfest 05-13-2006 10:55 AM

Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (Donald Sutherland version)
..where he points and screams in the last sec of the movie, that's a classic among the best :thumbsup

True romance was such a great movie. Those last lines she says just kill me.

One of the few moving endings that made me tear up
Quote:

So in the end, was it worth it? Jesus christ, how irreperably changed my life has become. It's always the last day of summer, and I've been left outside in the cold with no door to get back in. I'll grant you, I've had more than my share of poignant moments. Life passes most people by without making grand plans for it. Throughout my lifetime, I've left pieces of my heart here and there. And now there's almost not enough to stay alive. But I force a smile, knowing that my ambition far exceded my talent. There are no more white horses or pretty ladies at my door.

Was it her head though? They never show it. I always thought it was the unborn fetus...

Shawshank Redemption was a great movie, but what so special about the ending?

Moraxian 05-13-2006 02:03 PM

No one mentioned Caddyshack? Considering the last line of the movie is Rodney Dangerfield shouting to the entire cast "Hey everybody! We're all gonna get laid!"

Great movie and a great ending...

Nooooooooooonan!

Oh I think the end is amazing. It leaves you with a really great feeling...

Easy Rider has a good shock ending
The credits for Ferris Bueller's Day Off where Ed Rooney gets on the bus is a classic. Oh Yeahhhh

hezochiah 05-13-2006 05:08 PM

The Usual Suspects is one of my favorite movies and that ending is great. Rounders is another good one, of course I'm a poker freak so I'm probably somewhat biased.

Quagmire 05-13-2006 06:20 PM

Boogie Nights - when he's talking to his dick.

Easy Rider - You gotta see it.

Waveu6410 05-13-2006 06:25 PM

The shootout ending in Devils Rejects. I always turn up Free Bird nice and loud :thumbsup

NewtonXXX 05-13-2006 08:37 PM

The ending segment of Leon / The Professional

"HIDE AND SEEK" Robert Deniro...

MR. WHITE
(with much effort)
Sorry, kid. Looks like we're
gonna do a little time.

Mr. Orange looks up at him and, with even more of an
effort:

MR. ORANGE
I'm a cop.

Mr. White doesn't say anything, he keeps stroking Orange's
brow.

MR. ORANGE
I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.

Mr. White lifts his .45 and places the barrel between Mr.
Orange's eyes.

The CAMERA MOVES into an EXTREME C.U. of Mr White.

The SOUNDS of outside STORM inside. We don't see
anything, but we HEAR a bunch of shotguns COCKING.

POLICE FORCE (OS)
Freeze, motherfucker! Drop your
fucking gun!

Mr White looks up at them, smiles, PULLS the trigger.

BANG

We hear a BURST of SHOTGUN FIRE.

Mr. White is BLOWN out of frame, leaving it empty.

Paul Markham 05-13-2006 11:49 PM

So many to choose from, some are already mentioned. But here's a few more.

Gone with the Wind. Great end to a great movie.

Casablanca. Great end to a great movie.

Planet of the apes. Great end to a mediocre movie.

Life of Brian. Great end to a great movie.

:2 cents:

WiredGuy 05-13-2006 11:58 PM

Shawshank Redemption, hands down.
WG

spanky part 2 05-14-2006 12:43 AM

To Live and Die in LA, great old movie.
Saving Private Ryan. That old guy breaking down and asking the headstone if he led a good life.

Cory W 05-14-2006 09:49 AM

Bump for some great ones!

The Demon 05-14-2006 09:53 AM

Seven was fucking insane I agree. I would give the greatest movie endings to Braveheart, Shawshank Redemption, and American History X.
