Snakes! :Oh crap It's the 3rd I see and "hear" about this week and now the kid that cuts my grass just showed Chris a HUGE garter snake he just wacked (I wasn't sad about the death...lol) Anyway seems my backyard is the breeding ground for them and I'm PETRIFIED! And I have to go in my backyard my son loves to play out there and the last thing I want to do is show him to be afraid of snakes, but CRAP I lose my mind when I see one...lol Just looking at pictures makes me squirm, does anyone know how do get rid of them? :helpme

No it's just a garter snake it's actually harmless it just scares the shit out of me I REFUSE to go out until we put up mesh wiring all around my fence in my yard! :Oh crap

that snake dosnt look venomous. They are probably garden snakes and wont do any harm. But im not a pro so dont take my word for it lollllllll

they arent even poisonous...if you walk towards them they will slither away

I guess my worst fear is to lose someone close to me: friends, relatives PARENTS

And fucked up is that I can't stop looking at the dead thing through the window it's like a morbid obesession...lol

get yourself a snake as a pet.. maybe a ball python to start.. they are very friendly if you purchase one young and bring it up.. you will soon overcome that fear

When I lived in China I used to eat them. Fried snakes are really yummy, though damn expensive.

Garter snakes are harmless. They keep away all the nasty insects and small rodents in the area. You should want to keep them around.

Teach our kid how to catch them and learn to exist with them. Snakes are one of gods best creations. Not slimy or nasty, very clean, stays away from people and kills all kinds of nasty disease infested animals.

garter snakes are not poisonous and their bite at worse is like a pinch. WTf don't kill them. Me and my friends use to try and catch them for fun. Then we let them go. Why would you be afraid of a garter snake?

Those garter snakes are reletively harmless ....

If they are really breeding in yer backyard, there must be a food supply there ... cut off the food supply and away they go!

Prob field rats or rabbits in your backyard thats feeding them.

Well if you really want to help prevent snakes from entering your yard it would require a small investment. Which for most people with phobias ussually never is a problem.


Controlling insect and rodent populations and keeping grass mowed and landscapes clean.
Eliminate debris such as wood or rock piles on the property.
Cut down heavy brush or trim back hedges.
Seal small gaps under doors or decks, etc.
Use funnel type traps or glue board type traps along edges.
An extreme remedy would be a perimeter wide fence sloping outward at a 30 degree angle.

By the way the fiberous rope trick around the property does not work.

get a mongoose!

I say mow the lawn quite often if you see one, let the mower do its job :)

I personally dislike snakes and generally avoid them whenever possible.

But there's no denying they're good for getting rid of other unwanted pests and such.

aww....sucks....:( I hate snakes too tho that doesnt seemed poisonous.

There are several pets that you can get that will keep them out. And believe it or not, sometimes a cat being around will keep them away.

The poor guy got nailed by the weed whacker. He was just minding his own snake-business.

I had to go finish him off (with a 3 iron) as he was still alive. I chucked him over the fence.

You need one of these for a pet in the backyard :thumbsup They snack on snakes.

We don't even have a snake problem around here. But I do see one or two every spring and that's about it.

What we do have a problem with is those fucking skunks.
