Alienware is the worst computer company "beware"

Just need to vent.. but here is my story of alienware.

I paid 5500us for a laptop and printer, 8 months later the harddrives crash, I lost over 5 years of stuff sadly I didnt have backed up, I get the computer working again fine but it does all weird shit, like not shutting down, I had to turn take the power off the wall and the battery out to turn it off, and when i put the battery back in it would turn right back on again. came to the end where the power pack got so hot it started smoking and laptop would turn off. sent the fucking thing to alienware which I had to pay shipping both ways because I am in Canada and 2 months later I finally get my laptop back, after calling them repeatedly about what was up with the computer, we also reminded them about the power pack to make sure they replace it, they tell me that the computer is back at stage 1 because something went wrong, 2 hours later the post man is at my door with the laptop.. and the broke power pack.. called them for the 50th time again to bitch about it, they said to mail it back express.. which costs us 50 bucks and they would send the new one the next day to be here right away.. well 3 fucking weeks later still nothing, we call them every fucking day and they keep saying there is nothing they can do..

so in the end i got a 5k us laptop and no power pack for it.

sorry I just needed to vent and make sure they lose potential customers over this.. because its far beyound the worst customer service ive ever experienced.

I dont like them either, but something is off there. :error :error :error

Fucksakes 03-21-2006 06:01 PM

yeah I know, I should learn how to write.. btw the motherboard on the laptop was replaced. but the smoking power pack is fine.

Fucksakes 03-21-2006 06:02 PM

haha I put all the stuff I had from 1 laptop over to that 1 when I bought it.

5 years worth.

EdgeXXX 03-21-2006 06:03 PM

Yep, they used to be a decent company until they got huge, then they started going to crap :(

Dagwolf 03-21-2006 06:03 PM

But they're so COOL-looking...... :-P

Sorry to hear about your problems. I hope they get you straightened out soon.

Fucksakes 03-21-2006 06:04 PM

dont forget the 2months wait after buying it.. that it takes for them to build it and send it to you.

WiredGuy 03-21-2006 06:06 PM

Its because of horror stories like this that I only buy Dell. When something goes wrong, I want one of their reps at my office to fix it, I'm not shipping anything. I'd rather buy a new computer than wait even 2-3 days for shipping.

yeah funny thing is I been working on my old dell laptop all this time waiting, the thing is missing 75% of the screws, been thrown around everywhere, I never had a problem with support but for some reason I don't like Dell.. probably cause I am in hope for better.

He prolly transfered his older stuff to the new computer...

Fucksakes 03-21-2006 06:15 PM

I just sent this thread to online alienware support.

Raven 03-21-2006 06:26 PM

It's because of horror stories like this one, that I have my work stations custom built by http://www.hdnw.com. We've been using them for seven generations of computers....

I often wondered about Alienware..they do look cool; but, looking cool is simply not what I need in a work station.....

Pipecrew 03-21-2006 06:38 PM

I was a fan of alienware, a bunch of people i know had them, the problem is when something goes wrong, they fucking suck at fixing things. First of all, it takes them like 6 weeks to build the damn computer, so be prepared to wait.. My motherboard overheated and I had to mail them the computer, and I waited a long time to get it back, it worked for like 2 weeks before having the same problem, now its a paper weight in the corner of my room. I have a gateway and a dell laptop now.

It sucks cause they are in miami so you would think things would get done faster, but ofcourse they dont allow people to go to their office to drop off or pickup anything. I once saw like 6 alienware employees at this one place eating lunch, I wanted to go over and bitch at them but i restrained haha.

stickyfingerz 03-21-2006 07:11 PM

www.pctorque.com is the way to go. :winkwink:

Very true. I only touch a Dell or a sony Viao. Why spend loads of $$$ on a pc/laptop if you know support will scuk monkey balls. I am far more happy with my 2K$ Viao with the knowledge I can return my pc and get a new/repaired one in 2 days max.

minusonebit 03-21-2006 08:14 PM

Friend of mine was bitching about this company on IRC not too long ago, something about he returned a sys to them that wouldnt POST and they dont want to give him all the money back over a restocking charge or some shit. Sounds like a good vendor to stay away from.

I wished alienware was in my neighbourhood.

cock sucker.. your point exactly is?

the motherboard is what was replaced and the power pack that is smoking, the harddrives were not the issue, it was the motherboard.

drjones 03-21-2006 09:40 PM

AlienWare machines look cool.. but WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overpriced.. you'll get better deals elsewhere. Hell, theyre so overpriced they make Apple prices look like second hand, bargain basement stuff. I had considered getting one at one time, but they just arent worth it IMHO.. especially after the stories posted here.

Id never be able to walk away from purchasing one without feeling like a sucker:/ but damn they look cool

Slick 03-21-2006 09:57 PM

I'm actually in the opening stages of buying a new computer. My current system is going on 2 years old and is still decent with it's AMD 53-FX processor, 2 gigs of ram, and ATI X800 XT PE video card, but in my mind, I need to upgrade to something new.

I built my last 3 systems and figured that I'd take it easy on the new one and let someone else build one. I did consider Alienware, but like people have been saying, it seems like they went downhill once they grew big.

I didn't like Dell because they didn't use AMD and always had a bad gut feeling about them for not being a quality computer, perhaps it's because they make sooo many cheap computers for people, however, after looking at their new upcoming XPS 600 Renegade, I might have to reconsider, this thing looks bad ass, no mention of price though. Here's a link, the case looks BAD :)

Im surprised figured they would have better customer service

BobG 03-21-2006 10:03 PM

FUCK ALIENWARE. I'll take every opportunity I can to chime in with that. I've got one sitting in my closet that I bought last year. Sent it back twice and it's still fucked. Also, spent about 20 hours with them on their fucked up tech support that just keeps handing you off to 10 different barely English speaking guys who have to ask "What is your name, email address and Alienware account #" every fucking time you get a new guy. It finally got to the point for me that I just could not afford to spend one more minute with them on tech support. I wasn't able to work. It's a total loss. You can find many more reviews like these if you look around on the review sites which I should have done before I bought it.

haha you know I get my girlfriend to talk to these guys because I can't understand a word they say, I have a french street name, and its long I had to spell it out to the guy.. thou everything you said is 100% correct.

I however sold the laptop, but I sent the guy a laptop with no powerpack and he is getting more upset than I am, I am about to just order a new one, but afraid that will take forever as well.

Fucksakes 03-21-2006 10:14 PM

my problem is I would rather work from a laptop because I like to just pick up and go wherever with my work. I don't play games but I need a laptop with some power for video work, my alienware was definatly fast but hot as fuck and unstable. I got my eyes set on the new mac, but I got no experience with them.. afraid I will just be wasting some more money.

Serge Litehead 03-21-2006 10:29 PM

check out HP laptops

dbavaria 03-21-2006 10:42 PM

Every company has its horror stories, even Dell has its fair share. But what scares me is you paid 5500 for a laptop?

Sly 03-21-2006 10:49 PM

Why would you buy a $5.5k laptop? I bought a $5k laptop once from Gateway, that was about 8 years ago, it lasted probably 4 years before I bought my current desktop. My desktop is going on 4 years, still no real reason to upgrade.

MetaMan 03-21-2006 10:54 PM

go with a mac.

Dax 03-21-2006 11:05 PM

I have had 2 alienwares since 2001... Never ONE problem! =)

Alienware rocks!!

Funny to read ppl say that Alienware was good till the grew.. in otherwords.. they grew cuz they make good shit.. and keep on growing cuz they keep on producing good shit.. Not everyone will have a positive experience.. and usually the ppl who have a bad experience are the ones who vent or come out and talk! =)

You all should buy one! They are very very good computers!

And like Metaman said.. just go with mac.. they are by far the best machines out there.. Alienware is a close second =)

woj 03-21-2006 11:08 PM

you paid 5.5k for a laptop, wtf is wrong with you? I know you probalby make more in a day that we all make in a year, but still, 5.5k is a little excessive...

sometimes when a company grows too fast it can't handle all the support issues properly, that's a problem.

reed_4 03-21-2006 11:11 PM

Shit really happens and I'm sorry to hear about your problem with Alienware. Time to try some other brands like Dell.

For the average Joe, an Intel might suit you fine, but if you're a gamer, look at game benchmarks for the last couple of years, Intel gets blown out of the water pretty much every time. With their latest processor, it did jump close the gap a little, but it's still behind the latest AMD which in the very near future is releasing their latest socket and processor which will again kick the shit outta Intel :)

I'm not Pro-AMD or anything, I jump on the wagon of what's the best processor maker out there for gaming and that maker just happens to be AMD :)

toddler 03-22-2006 12:00 AM

couple things:

a: there is a rumor that dell may buy alienware. who knows if its true or not. I personally don't like either.

b: you sold that laptop w/o a powerpack? Did you disclose that fact to the guy when you sold it? thats some fucked up shit if not.

sublimed 03-22-2006 12:02 AM

alienwares are cheap pieces of shit in a nice case/cover. the only reason they sell is because they look neat. do yourself a favor and buy a sony. :2 cents:
