buddyjuf 03-18-2006 02:35 AM

Nothing on the market seems to compare to this notebook, not even Alienware

practiceTITOISM 03-18-2006 02:35 AM

I've always hated VAIOs. My friend bought one a while back and has had nothing but problems.

mfps 03-18-2006 02:37 AM

a guy at work gave me a laptop the other day.

it needed a new hard drive, and a battery.

i really needed a laptop.

that guy made my day.

JuiceMonkey 03-18-2006 02:40 AM

is there an upgrade to 7200RPM DISC?

If so go for that.. my old laptop had 5400 and it was slow as hell.. the new one is up to 7200

I know dell offers them

martinsc 03-18-2006 02:42 AM

that's a sexy laptop...

Yes there is, but since my laptop is broke, and this is one of 2 currently available models, I had to settle for this.

But I honestly wouldnt have changed anything besides the HD either way, so it's perfect! :)

buddyjuf 03-18-2006 02:44 AM

I am REALLY excited to see how a dual processor 1.83ghz with 1 gig high speed ram and 128mb graphics performs!

newbreed 03-18-2006 02:45 AM

I'm trying to figure out what's special about this computer. Does it have a blender or anything? This is an average laptop now-adays to anyone who is serious about a business that relies on a computer. This thing isn't even close to a desktop replacement or substitute, what am I missing?

buddyjuf 03-18-2006 02:45 AM

Oh and I also got this REALLY sexy bluetooth mouse to go with it! :)

3.7lbs, 13.3 inches, under 1 inch think, 7 hours battery life, with all the features of a true desktop (dual processor, 1 gig ram, 100gig HD, 128mb graphic card)

it is simply the ultimate ultramobile computer

I am NOT looking for a desktop replacement... I have my 23" screen at home with a kickass custom built pc :)

MaxCandy 03-18-2006 02:50 AM

looking ay exactly same one, right now, was think the screen was a bit small your thoughts?

You should get off eBay sometime and into the real computing World. Not only would you save some cash, you'd know what a real "ultimate ultramobile computer" was. Enjoy your over-priced toy. :thumbsup

ebay? I bought that straight from the sony website

and can you please point me to the "real" ultimate ultramobile computer? :upsidedow

Theo 03-18-2006 02:59 AM

i work on a laptop most of the time and it's a perfect replacement for a desktop when you add a wireless keyboard and a mouse. Of course if you are a PRO graphics designer, it's not suitable.

vaio standard batter sucks,i dont think it make it over 100min. Test and post back your feedback.

my previous vaio, (that I broke), lasted about 200minutes on average. This one should do the double of that at least. And the additional capacity one should last at least 9 hours. they have really improved their shit!

Theo 03-18-2006 03:04 AM

maybe i dont use proper power mngt settings, i have 2 vaios 1.6c and none makes it to 2h

I don't do research for other people, but good luck in your efforts. :thumbsup

DesignWise 03-18-2006 03:42 AM

nice... nice... good stuff!

Trax 03-18-2006 03:45 AM

i dont like vaios
my last one was crap
built to crack up early
never a vaio again

hoggy1 03-18-2006 04:43 AM

I have been using Viaos for a long time and have had an earlier model of this small form factor machine for almost a year. IT IS GREAT. I use to love the larger screens but got tired lugging ten pounds around the world. 3 lbs is the big sell. The screen is small but very high-res with good contrast. The battery life was amazingly 6+ hours when the machine was new but over the months it drops off (even using careful battery preserving techniques). The machine is about 10 months old and I just bought a new battery but it is not as good as that first one that came with the new machine. Buy it. You'll like it.

Mr.Right - Banned For Life 03-18-2006 04:57 AM

I also have a sony and they are the best.

KitA 03-18-2006 05:17 AM

congrats on new laptop

Violetta 03-18-2006 06:59 AM

nice specs! I just got a new laptop too... Love it!

Gasper 03-18-2006 07:05 AM

13.3'? Come on :) 15' at least :2 cents:

BVF 03-18-2006 07:07 AM

my last laptop was a vaio and it was a good machine...However, they lied to you about the battery life..And in time, without the plug, you won't even be able to have your laptop on for even a few MINUTES without the battery dying...And that's even if you have the thing plugged up all night.

But Vaio's are very reliable...I just needed to upgrade mine plus the spyware and viruses ruined that comp...it can't even reformat because somehow the thing can't even read the data off of a CD anymore.

gangbangjoe 03-18-2006 07:24 AM

amazing laptop bdjuf but i highly doubt that any batterie could do 10 hours laptop

supermann 03-18-2006 07:29 AM

RE-buying something similar that broke recently isnt the wisest thing to do.

THIS has better specs... :)

V_RocKs 03-18-2006 08:06 AM

100GB2 5400rpm Serial ATA

I'd get 7000 or 10000 rpms.... you will notice a huge speed boost.

On laptops, the HD is the main bottle neck
