Senators Max Baucus (D-MT) and Mark Pryor (D-AR) introduced new legislation today that would serve to require websites that contain ?material that is harmful to minors? to operate from a new Top-Level Domain. The senators suggest .xxx as an example of such a domain, and a press release on Pryor?s website makes it clear that this bill is targeting adult entertainment, despite the fact that the language of the bill would require sites that offer other forms of ?harmful matter? to operate from the new TLD, as well.

I always wondered why .xxx domains are a bad thing? Everyone seems to be upset by them, Webmasters AND the Bush Administration alike. Would it push ALL porn sites into the .xxx level domains and ban them from using anything else?

If this .xxx thing does go through (and the Bush Administration won't let that happen from what I read), it's going to be a nasty, crazy landrush.

Here's an article I read the other night about it. This was in August 05, about 4 months before .xxx domains were ORIGINALLY supposed to open up.

This is valid and Max Baucus belongs to democratic party, but this is not the first attempt to pass legislations that affect the industry. At the age of 65 and after having served to all unrelated fields I don't see how this person regardless his legal experience is capable to propose a fair law.

.xxx story has been going on a good 6-7 years now. The republican voices against it are the most radical seeking complete disappearance of online pornogrpahy; at least in the form you experience it right now. In order to achieve it they throw cp in the mixer and make a salad.

If this becomes a law that will be enforced in the long run it will affect most aspects of your online adult business regardless where you'll be located.

If the adult industry had the NRA on it's side, this would not only never pass - it would never be proposed ... (No, I don't condone the NRA - just the point that as "community" the adult industry has many $$$ millions but I think, zero political influence)
