I have TV here but I don't really watch that much. Aside from the fact that Im busy with my job, too much radiation is also bad for my health.

A girl moved in just along the street from me about 6 months ago. I went round to say hello and found she didn't have a TV and had never lived in a house with one. I ended up having to explain how satellite TV worked.

bjjb 03-16-2006 08:39 AM

I have a little 19 inch one in the living room. And DirecTv with Tivo. DOnt always watch it but I love having it and therres always something to watch.

Violetta 03-16-2006 08:45 AM

Yup, no tv. Most of the shows on these days are garbage anyhow.

Mike Seth 03-16-2006 09:14 AM

I do not watch TV and I haven't had one in my house for years. Now I moved to a new place and there was a TV set already so we kept it, but I don't watch it.

Personally I think of a TV as a horrifying and ubereffective dumbing down device. I were trying to avoid it as much as possible because the entire thing is a huge sales pitch. I don't even watch news.

One day though I had a drug-induced religious experience which taught me that everything shown on TV is scifi. Especially the news. So now I don't have negative feelings towards the TV, just towards the people who take it seriously

. . . the shows have out grown the writting talent pool . . .IMHO

Ross 03-16-2006 09:58 AM

I just got Sky+ installed at home. Its very good. I can now record all my favourite programmes at the touch of a button directly onto my Cable box then just watch them later.

I can also pause and rewind programmes I'm watching.

Vitasoy 03-16-2006 10:32 AM

Can't seeing myself without having an tv, it's on practically 24/7

leggs 03-16-2006 10:36 AM

I don't watch TV

mardigras 03-16-2006 10:37 AM

I generally have news or CSPAN on in the background when working. When I actually sit down to watch TV I have a 10' dish, 4DTV & FTA receivers and a couple thousand channels to play with.:upsidedow

Unless someone has excellent local radio news I can't see not having a TV these days or at least a radio that picks up the audio from local TV even if they are only used in times of emergency. After Katrina my pocket TV was the only source of local information for a whole building of people for a week until the area's news radio station got back on. That was a lifesaver for locating limited gas supplies and stores as they reopened.:2 cents:

Expo_Vids 03-16-2006 10:38 AM

I only use it to watch Sopranos. Everything else sucks.

On HBO or on DVD? If you are paying for HBO you might as well get your money's worth with "Real Time with Bill Maher:)

Re-read the 2nd paragraph of my previous post. There was no "online" for weeks after Katrina...

All local phone service was out, few cell phones worked and those that did were mostly attempting to call numbers that weren't working. Until the local AM news station was able to get back up the few stations that were still able to broadcast (mostly on generator) simulcasted one signal from WWL called the United Radio Broadcasters of New Orleans. They did a great job of informing those who live in Metro New Orleans but not as well for those in surrounding areas. There was no electricity and one UHF and one VHF channel on my battery powered pocket TV was the only source of local information available to me that first week. I strongly suggest that even those who are anti-TV have battery powered access to AM/FM and at least TV audio in their "emergency kits". When you can't get important info online you need to be able to get it wherever it is:2 cents:
