A look into whats going in Lousiana after Katrina / Rita by localG

localG has been in New Orleans since October 2005 working and helping people put their lives back together after Katrina / Rita
He lived in his truck for two months in New Orleans, now he's in a camper.

If you want to see pictures of the destruction taken by localG on the last week of January 2006 go to
http://www.sportfishermen.com/board/...ead.php?t=6159

It still look this this. Thousands of families living in tents (no, not trailers).
Fishermen can't work since their boats are destroyed or need repairs.

Watch this video shot in Feb 06 when a member of the site went down with his video camera to help localG to show the world how Louisiana looks like months after the hurricanes

For more videos go to
http://www.sportfishermen.com/board/...ead.php?t=6654

Sportfishermen.com members are helping a lot but as you can see Louisiana needs way more help...
or do you think this view is normal after over 6 months Katrina hit Lousiana?
http://www.sportfishermen.com/ads/th8027.jpg

Members have made donations of about $50k worth of trailers, cash and supplies.
10 people have been put in housing, 5 of witch were young children. A mans commercial boat will be fixed and back fishing by may for the season and he will be able to make and supply his family with a income. The products to fix this boat was from donations from members.
3 Trailers were donated. These trailers will be used and the second the people find better housing others will be put in these trailers.

government was all talk and they did shit, if it was beverly hills it would be rebuilt already.

Pornwolf 03-13-2006 11:03 PM

The government has secretly cut their losses when it comes to New Orleans. It has wanted to cut state funding for it for some time now. New Orleans was the closest thing this country had to a third world city. The town didn't all look like the French Quarter. Far from it. Katrina just gave the State gov a reason to cut and run. The emergency budget given to it won't make a dent. You can expect Baton Rouge to be bigger and better though, that's where the states gambling money is going to come from.

It's nice of Local G to help make a few lives better no matter what the government does, or doesn't, do.

pr0 03-13-2006 11:10 PM

thats great, i'm glad to see people are actually getting help down there, as oppossed to the empty promises provided by the government

That's a city private business and politics issue. It's a bit different.

Give it to localG, you can see what Sportfishermen.com is doing if you take a look at the pictures, watch the videos and read the threads over there!

Jer 03-14-2006 05:04 PM

localG is now doing FREE DEMOLITIONS

He found a company who was willing to donate some very heavy pieces of equipment for him to run down there to push homes out to the right of way.
Once a house is in the right of way they will get picked up.

So starting today John is pushing homes for free so people can get trailers on their land.

Don't hate on me, but instead of (okay, *as well as*) sending money all you Americans who really want to help should go after your government. All those taxes you pay are supposed to be for disaster relief, recovery, etc. and when you give cash, you're bailing out this inept administration.

Sounds cold, but if I was living down there, I'd honestly be a lot more furious your gov't is using your money (even indirectly) on rebuilding Iraq instead of your own cities.

In any event, it's great to see people volunteering and helping but your gov't really has fucked over the people affected by this disaster. Damn shame.

KRL 03-15-2006 01:24 AM

This hurricane was a fucking monster storm. It took out the entire coastlines of 3 states.

I don't think even if the government was on top of things they could possibly handle this devastion in a quick easy to fix manner. Where the heck do you begin? The logistics are a total nightmare. People have left. Housing tens of thousands of workers is a major problem because there is no infrastructure at all. Business is all screwed up. Its a TOTAL DISASTER that will need hundreds of Billions the government doesn't have to repair it all.

That area is going to be fucked up for a long time.

Jer 03-15-2006 08:04 AM

Bump.

We're making a difference in people's lives

the question should have been, have they even started to rebuild ground zero and can say without hesitation, no.

but good point, regardless.
