Lets say you walk into a car dealership and want to pay cash...

So you walk into a BMW dealership and offer to pay 100 000$ cash for your car.

Will they report you to the governmenmt?
Or happily take your money and give you keys to an M6?

Inquiring minds want to know! :thumbsup

datatank 03-11-2006 03:43 PM

They only report you if you dont use a monte blanc to sign the deal

Manowar 03-11-2006 03:43 PM

reported, for sure

bellskids 03-11-2006 03:44 PM

Id say you were asking for trouble, im sure they would be far less suspicious of an electronic deposit. You need to find a crooked dealer who would be willing to handle a large amount of cash like that.

JD 03-11-2006 03:44 PM

i believe anything over 9,999 is reported. i'm probably wrong though

You would probably catch someone's attention, if you know what I mean.

WiredGuy 03-11-2006 03:45 PM

Yes, they do report it. For any cash purchase of a vehicle. I did the same for my Acura when I bought it, it was a bit of hassle and all but it only takes a few minutes extra to process.

Actually, I'm not 100% positive but I believe you are correct.

woj 03-11-2006 03:45 PM

They may or may not, I would talk to the boss, give him extra few bucks and tell him you don't want it reported, I'm sure he would cooparate (or call fbi on your right away, lol)

Juicy D. Links 03-11-2006 03:45 PM

A bunch of crazy politians have just made a new law in Denmark, which makes it illegal to spend more than $15500 cash - and it would not surprise me, if the rest of the EU countries are working on a similar fucked up law :helpme

Oh, and their reason is that terrorists use large amounts of cash... Yeah, I can just see how this will put an end to terrorism :1orglaugh

a transaction received by a BANK over $9,999 must be reported, but only transactions over $99,999 must be reported by non-banking entities.

you are correct.

xxxdesign-net 03-11-2006 04:23 PM

I dont get it.. if you get audited.. don't they look up for your possessions like houses, cars.. etc..? and then ask how you paid for it?

WarChild 03-11-2006 04:25 PM

I have a very good friend is the business manager of a very large dealership in Vancouver Canada.

Interestingly, car dealerships are not bound by the same laws as banks. You can bring cash, or wire them huge sums, and they're not obligated to report it. I personally wires $30,000 as the down payment on my corvette, hassle free.

Downtime 03-11-2006 04:25 PM

i think you'll be fine, as long as you've been paying your taxes

That's correct. Like I said above, BANKS must report $10k and over, but non banking entities only have to report $100k and over.

Pornwolf 03-11-2006 04:29 PM

Sperminator is correct, unfortunately anything over $9,999 is DEFINITELY reported by a dealership.

Its no joke - the stores can not accept any cash payment over $15500 - you will need to use CCs, checks or bank transfers.

The stores said "please, just let us report large cash payments like the banks do", however the politicians turned that offer down. So now you are committing a crime, if you pay or receive cash payments over $15500 :Oh crap

tungsten 03-11-2006 04:41 PM

not a good idea to pay cash

After Shock Media 03-11-2006 04:42 PM

If your penis is truely so small that you would consider doing this, skip buying the M6 and elect for the enhancement surgery.

beemk 03-11-2006 04:46 PM

even if you buy it off someone who isnt a dealer, ive heard that they go as far as checking the records at the dmv/secretary of state sometimes.

pocketkangaroo 03-11-2006 04:49 PM

If you aren't doing anything wrong, who cares. Just do it and tell people to fuck off later. If you aren't doing anything wrong, nothing they can do.

Write a check, np.

Give them cash, they have to report it.

polish_aristocrat 03-11-2006 05:11 PM

bdjufffffff i love you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Trixxxia 03-11-2006 05:19 PM

Actually, every transaction over $10k has to be reported - as a bank we had to have them fill documents of where the money came from for the RCMP. This means that the dealer will have to sign and report where this money came from.

Also, even if you deposit $2k a day for 5 days & it's not something usual, it has to be reported. Anything that is unusual, they have a right to ask you to sign the document for the RCMP. *This is for Canada at least*
