The Americans thought this game was a given win I'm sure. Surprise surprise... some of these "used to be easy to beat" teams are now quite seasoned.

Even a tie in this game is an upset for team USA.

Wow. I must admit that before this game started I too thought it would be a given win. Some of these teams from "over there" are surprisingly good these days.

Not to mention our team sucks ass.

Canada, Czech, Russia and Slovakia are the class of the field. I think Canada is that much better than the rest though, especially if Hasek's injury keeps him out more.

At least hockey is ONE sport Canadians can get a medal in at the Olympics. We really need more money for athletes in this country!

The USA squad is going to have it very rough in this tournament. They left some very good players of the team and loaded it with older and slower guys. A big ice surface is going to hurt this team big time.

What do you mean? We have 5, maybe 6 medals already in other events. Canada just won a silver in speedskating (team pursuit) earlier today.

By the time these games are over we should have close to 20 medals total. Not what some hoped for but it's still pretty good in my opinion.

USA is beating Kazakhstan 3-0 right now.

4-1 for Canada over Germany after 2 periods... I'm really enjoying this game. Germany is a good team, good goaltending for them so far.

Anyway Russians are playing great hockey - very good game

Mr. Vokoun is in better shape I think but true is that Hasek is still the name and means something

only until they play against Slovakia :)

The Russians came out like gangbusters today, nice win for them, they looked very strong.


With regard to what was said earlier about Canada not winning medals except for hockey, we now have 8 medals, 4 of them coming today alone....

Finland is doing pretty good also, two games (with two big wins) and their stats are 11 - 0. Of cause these two games were easy. Good to see T. Selanne scoring like in old days.

The best game so far was the Russia vs Slovakia one. Damn that was good.

Canada should OWN the Winter Olympic games... our winters are cold enough so that we should be highly competitive in EVERY sport. I'm definitely grateful for every medal we win... but we aren't nearly tapping the athletic potential of our people.

Agreed, but one: there are plenty of countries that have cold winters and as many or more people than we have,

and two: Canada doesn't seem to want or be able to pump the kind of money needed into athletics like the USA does. There's more money there now than there was oh say 20 years ago for the athletes, but it's nowhere near enough.

Anyway, back to hockey....

I haven't checked the upcoming schedule at all but I do hope that Canada gets to play teams like finland, Slovakia, Latvia... but I guess they only get to play so many games each. A Canada-Finland game would be great though. I always like watching Selanne play, from way back when he was a Winnipeg Jet. :D
