Do you think Weg is a major porn company?

In my thread yesterday, someone posted that the term "major porn company" is reserved for Vivid and Hustler.

I found his post intriguing. Nothing personal and I harbor no ill-will with the thread, however, it sincerely raised my curiosity.

Do you guys think Weg is small? You think we are top 10 in anything?

What are the assumptions? What makes a porn company a major one?

This isn't a thread about bashing anyone, quite the contrary.

I believe Wegcash is a Major internet porn company, I think when people think of "major porn company" Video companies comes more to mind.

I would probably consider you a major Internet marketing company before a major porn company. When I think of porn companies I think of Hustler and such.

And I really wouldn't have the slightest idea as to whether or not you are indeed a major Internet marketing company.

oh and I agree, major porn company sounds like Hustler but the web is different and the companies unknown to the general public make more often money online than the huge offline porn brands

However, I love hearing the interprettations. I am on the fence with this. I am going to let this thread ride and then put in my two cents.

It's a lot like when you were a kid and you'd try to one-up each other in social situations.

Often people will post with how they visualize portraying themselves as their motivation regardless of who they're talking to or in what context it's in. :2 cents:

Getting some distribution deals if you have good content is a peice of cake... allthought, you'd be surprised how little money per movie there actually is on the table.

I perceive weg as a medium + sized affiliate program... I don't think you guys are close to the top 10 yet... so many affiliates program nowdays

I think to qualify as a "major" porn company you need average consumers brand name recognition.

Does WEG have any particular site that if you asked say 100 porn consumers; more than 25 would recognize by name?
(I am fairly sure WEG itself would not qualify, not sure about any sites under its ownership).

if someone said " hey is weg a major porn company ?" and thats all they said i would say yes., if they said corporation i might say no .. even though their isnt much difference.. but hey what do i know

That guy was probably thinking in terms of content production. His example of Vivid and Hustler are two of the bigger outfits for production studios, not affiliate programs. I would say WEG is among the bigger outfits in terms of traffic though.

Well, I will neither deny nor confirm that one, however, it should be known that marketing strategy does not include attempting to paint our program with any "financial-success" brush.

if you do things rigth and build a solid customer base, there can be a lotof money...I know 2 producers in the porn industry right now that are personally pocketing $75k+ a month from making movies, and they just own their name

you have to also take into consideration, Vivid and Hustler have HUGE affiliate programs, so they actually are HUGE porn companies as a whole

not many video people can say they have a large internet side
and not many internet people can say they have a large video side

Tough question to answer for so many reasons, however, this is a great perspective.

I would have to say in terms of brand, no, we do not. However, in terms of traffic, yes, absolutely we do.

have you all ever thought about taking all that exclusive content and getting into the video side of things? it never made any sense to me why companies would waste their content on one or two sites, when they could have nice sized distribution deals

Have we thought about it? Yes.

Have we made motions? Not so much.

We are getting heavily involved with content right now. In the past, we purchased a lot of content (as many producers know). However, now we are contracting more custom shoots and investigating becoming a bit more intimate with it (shooting closer to home).

That said, will the idea hit the table again? Of course.

But the business is tough. You said that yourself. Right now, I can build a site for Weg and get major signups day one. Tough to argue with success, but on the same token, not smart to shy away from expansion.

When I think Major...I think Household Name...Vivid, Hustler, Playboy, Penthouse...and then maybe stuff like Wicked, Redlight, Ananabolic...Major that they are in every facet of the industry; print, tv, internet, video...you know what I mean...or lay some claim...like Redlight selling Paris Hilton Videos..I guess it is more of Name thing...When somebody says "Player"...i often think of the guys online who can generate a huge sum of money from little investment..So how bout going back and saying " from a Player in the Online Porn industry" ;) He HE.
