You guys remember Windows 3.1?

I remember the good old days. The first time I ever surfed the internet was with Windows 3.1. I remember, Netscape was the browser of choice and every web-site had a #c0c0c0 background.

sickbeatz 02-09-2006 08:31 PM

Heh.. And LegendaryLars use to run a site called Pleasure Palace back in the early 90s. I use to chat in one of his chatrooms. It was called 'cyber chat' LOL

hydro 02-09-2006 08:32 PM

lucky for me im not that old

warlock5 02-09-2006 08:32 PM

I'm ashamed to admit I used win3.1 so long that by the time I upgraded win98 was already out.

gornyhuy 02-09-2006 08:33 PM

Fuck yeah - remember when Win 3.11 came out and blew that shit away?

Baker Rd 02-09-2006 08:34 PM

Fuck yeah, I had an IBM 386 with a free wireless connection to my neighbor across the street that ran an ISP.

eadweb 02-09-2006 08:35 PM

Yup, I remember buying an extra 1meg of memory for $450 so 3.1 would have a whole 2 megs to work with.

I don't think there was wireless back then.

I remember I had a 2400 baud dialup modem. when 14.4k modems came out -- those were considered 'high-speed' and if you were able to download 1.4K/sec you were big pimpin

Baker Rd 02-09-2006 08:39 PM

Trust me there was wireless, it was a giant box almost the size of my IBM and slow as a 28.8 but it was wireless

baddog 02-09-2006 08:40 PM

tony286 02-09-2006 08:48 PM

My first "IBM compatible" was a custom job

386DX
120 MB HDD
12" color monitor
mouse
keyboard
color dot matrix printer
Windows 3.0
DOS 5.0
I think 4 Meg RAM, may have been 2

care to guess how much it cost?

Murderous 02-09-2006 09:09 PM

Almost exactly like the old Mac OS like OS 7 or OS 8.

Anyone still remember the splash screen?
I've never used it with an internet connection, just to get my school reports done.

Penthouse Tony 02-09-2006 09:29 PM

AsianDevil 02-09-2006 09:29 PM

Lol, how many of you remember the Commodore 64, or even better, the PET?

FlyingIguana 02-09-2006 09:34 PM

commodore 64 had some cool games, except when the power went out while you kept it on for might and magic :(

AsianDevil 02-09-2006 09:41 PM

lol, too true Iguana =_)

Nembrionic 02-09-2006 09:53 PM

My first:

286, 12Mhz with Turbo button to boost it to 16Mhz which made nibbles.bas and gorillas.bas run superfast :1orglaugh
2MB RAM
40MB HD
1MB VGA card
Windows 3.11 for Workgroups
DOS 5 with Dos Shell :1orglaugh
Good old days

commodore 64 was the shit :thumbsup

4Pics 02-09-2006 10:05 PM

I had an Ibm PC Xt, and a Tandy 1000 that I played the shit out of Kings Quest on.

I think it had like 1mb of ram, no hd just 2 360k floppy drives. Later I got a 1.2mb floppy and a 1.44 that kicked ass but no games came on 1.44's.

Rochard 02-09-2006 10:08 PM

I remember having to install it using some four thousand floppy disks!

Probono 02-09-2006 10:11 PM

I remember using MS DOS 2.0, before that VMS on a DEC Mini

Yeah, I bet it ran the calculator and word processor flawlessly too.

baddog 02-09-2006 11:13 PM

I started out with an Apple I then an Apple IIe with dual floppy drives. There was no hdd, and whatever memory there was minimal, less than a digital watch as I recall.
