Secrets to success - what's yours?

Successful people have certain traits (life rules) that they embody that have helped them to achieve their goals in life and in business.....or has put them on track to achieve their goals.

What are some traits that you embody and practice on a regular basis that have helped you to get where you are?

I'd have to go with perseverance and tenacity.

Also...it never hurts to have developed skills and experience in numerous areas as opposed to specializing in just one aspect.

But then again - you can't discount plain, old-fashioned dumb luck sometimes. Being in the right place at the right time.

Earning complete trust from your customers :thumbsup

Raven 02-08-2006 10:20 AM

Perserverance and tenacity, as was stated above.

Get the job done. Period.

Don't talk about problems, without having a solution.

Be there.

Keep your finger on the pulse of your market.

Continuing education. Stagnation is a bitch to have as a mistress.

andrej_NDC 02-08-2006 10:24 AM

I will let you know when I get successful

Raven 02-08-2006 10:33 AM

Define success and achievements.

Some think achieving regular bowel movements is a worthy goal to attain.....said tongue in cheek...

Others think being happily married is a success; while others believe money is the root of all things wonderful..the more money, the more the belief in one's success.

Anthony 02-08-2006 10:33 AM

Having the mutherfucking contacts for everything.

Your redirect for the goo link isn't working. :(

Mr Dickovitch 02-08-2006 10:39 AM

Buy very expensive gold jewelry and expensive watches. They show that you deserve respect.

I know....I thought I had it fixed. I killed the cookie. I'm about to kill my computer. Thanks, Ant. Sigh.

Surrounding youself with successfull people always helps.

GlydeGirl 02-08-2006 10:43 AM

I'm a recovering workaholic, so my secret to success is to take some time every day (or week) to do something non work-related that feeds my soul. If I just work, work, work until I'm totally burned out, I am not nearly as effective, efficient or happy as I am when I take some time out to care for my personal self.

sperbonzo 02-08-2006 10:43 AM

I believe that there are three things.

Network. The people that you know make everything happen, from making deals, to making sales, to getting things done, or getting to the decision makers, contacts and network mean everything.

Focus. Staying zeroed in on getting things done. Don't get distracted by the things that don't work, just move on to the things that do. Keep your energy up. Sometimes focus even involves focusing on NON work related things in order to keep your mind fresh and keep new perspectives available to you.

Timing. This is the hardest one to control. When the time is right for something, you need to be on top of it in order to be the first or the best. You can only really stay on top of it by utilizing your network and your focus.

i was going to say hard work, but who cares about it these days

Tricksy 02-08-2006 11:11 AM

Work hard!

FredIsMe 02-08-2006 11:18 AM

Just compare business to the fashion industry. You gotta be Paris Hilton, you have to innovate, cause once someone innovates eventually everyone and their grandmas are doing the same thing, and thus you need to find a new innovation to stay on top.

Raven 02-08-2006 11:31 AM

Find your talent.

Do what you do best.

You don't have to be Chanel. Those who made knock offs of Chanel live quite successfully.

You don't always have to build a bigger, badder mousetrap....but, you do have to have a sense of business principles and a plan.

TinyTim 02-08-2006 11:33 AM

Find out what you do best and repeat. Be organized and persistent.

Nickatilynx 02-08-2006 12:59 PM

When other people say "Don't do this".......

Check it out. If it is not illegal where you reside , do it.

So far it has worked for blind links , pop ups , AVS cramming , Search Engine spamming , mailing , spyware , adware...etc...etc...

At some point nearly everyone said those forms of marketing were unethical , immoral ....but those that did them early on made , and continue to make, fortunes.

Oh, and know someone who has " the mutherfucking contacts for everything."

:)

At least not when you're still in the game yourself.

Wait till you're retired...then market a tell-all book.

That's very true. Likewise, I'm also a workaholic (slowly recovering) - and I find the best thing to clear my mind is pack up the camera gear, toss on the hiking boots, and spend time on the local Niagara trails by myself. Its the most relaxing and cathartic thing I can imagine. Good exercise, fresh air...sometimes some good photos - and best of all no phones or computers.

I always come back refreshed and usually with a few new ideas and renewed energy.
