For all you dog owners..

What brand of food do you feed your dog? There are so many to choose from these days. In your opinion what is the best?

HammerALL 01-18-2006 11:21 AM

I just started with Nutro -http://www.nutroproducts.com/

But I used to feed him Science diet

RuthB 01-18-2006 11:21 AM

Pedigree works for my St Bernard - though we add in some Vitamin E and eggs to her food for protein for her skin and fur.

Kimmykim 01-18-2006 11:23 AM

Iams mini chunks

ronaldo 01-18-2006 11:24 AM

Apprarently we use Pedigree. Besides everything my wife and kids toss her from the table that is.

webbydeb 01-18-2006 11:24 AM

Nutro is the best....although I have 3 cats *laughing*
I feed all three nutro.

psili 01-18-2006 11:24 AM

Iams weight control with some canned carrots.
Ice cubes as snacks.

Just because the lab's getting a bit chubby.

LauraLee 01-18-2006 11:28 AM

I did a lot of research and the best food i was able to find is Solid Gold

No fillers or preservatives. There are different varieties but the one my min pins get is the fish and whole grain one.

Good luck :)

Iams for big dogs

Herb Kornfield 01-18-2006 11:45 AM

Eukanuba - for small dogs

EroticySteve 01-18-2006 11:58 AM

Sam's Club store brand. The dogs love it and I think it's actually made for them by Iams.

grumpy 01-18-2006 12:00 PM

only one brand Eukanuba. It costs a bit more but i expect you want the best for your dog.

prodiac 01-18-2006 12:04 PM

Kirkland brand from Costco. Comes with 12 cans of Chicken & Rice, and 12 of Lamb & rice I think .. I don't know who really makes it though. It looks like Iam though.

Peaches 01-18-2006 12:06 PM

Nutro Max for the dogs and cat. When I first got Ferdinand he was on Solid Gold and could clear a room when he pooted. He and Meg have thrived well on the Nutro for 8+ years (vet says they are the healthiest pugs at 10 and 13 he's seen) and Ariel is now eating is also :)

My cat's also 13 and has never been sick.

Wordsforhire 01-18-2006 12:07 PM

I have to say the best three foods you can possible buy are
1. Eukaneba
2.Pedigree
3.Iams

I trained my dogs for 6 years in dog agility and for several years in flyball and found that they not only performed better on those foods but their attitude and health in general was MUCH better.

RRRED 01-18-2006 12:15 PM

iams or eukanuba.. both good but if you find your dog doesn't like it, put a little beef boullion and warm water together and pour it over the top.

I'm sure its like human food. the healthier it is, the shittier it tastes.

WarChild 01-18-2006 12:18 PM

I feed my dogs a Veterinary blend of Eukanaba called "Response FP". It's made with fish and potato and brings a really nice shine to the dogs coat. It's kind of expensive, but I have a dog with a beef allergy. Costs me about $300 a month to feed 3 Rottweilers.

My sister, who is a Vet reccomends Eukanaba or Metacal.

Peaches 01-18-2006 12:22 PM

The Nutro Max I use is for "For Overweight, Less Active Dogs". One morning my brother was staying with us at the beach, woke up exhausted it read it as "For Overweight, Less Attractive Dogs" because of the pugs. :(

pawsregd 01-18-2006 12:24 PM

Iams for my guys

Matt 26z 01-18-2006 12:26 PM

Make sure you don't have any of the recalled food still in your house...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/space/200601...cpetfoodrecall

It was killing dogs.

I've got shih-tzus and a Georgia ditch dog...and they are all on Nutro Max. Best there is. No corn. One of my babies has skin allergies and they all cleared up when I started using the Lamb and Rice formula.

CyberAgeGary 01-18-2006 12:27 PM

She's feed on Nutro, she seem to like it... :thumbsup

My akita has developed sensitive skin and the only thing that has made him better is the Purina One salmon formula. My other dog can eat anything!
For treats I buy nutro

I definitely agree. My Pitlab-Dingo used to have a severely sensitive stomach (puke and violent shits) when he was a puppy, and when I switched his diet to Wolf King (made by Solid Gold), his symptoms went away almost immediately (and my house stayed clean and fresh thereafter).

Ingredients, ganked from some site I googled just now: Solid Gold WolfKing is a dry food formula for large breed dogs made with bison, salmon meal, brown rice, millet, and barley. Includes flaxseed oil, garlic, amaranth, blueberries, and host of other nutrients for a complete, balanced diet.

Not cheap, but worth it for my boy. Here's a picture of how happy he is sleeping after a big meal.

I only trust pedigree.

L0stMind 01-18-2006 05:36 PM

feed raw

Hundies 01-18-2006 05:39 PM

My dog gets Kibbles Indoor Dog Diet, and my kitten gets Kitty Chow.

Peter_ANYwebcam 01-18-2006 05:46 PM

I used to feed our Lab eukanuba but changed to a much cheaper brand of dry food, the dog loves it, he's just as fit and healthy, his coat is fantastic and it's 1/3 the cost.

Stay the fuck away from Diamond (see recall post above). Dogs are dropping dead like flys around here including a good friend of mines Great Dane.

My Rotts get Iams. My Lhaso gets Beneful.

its the closest to raw , if your dog food has more carbs than protein its crap. Dogs are carnivores not omnivores.

too messy for indoor pets...good for a farm or something though

The best dog treats I've ever found are dried strips of chicken from Costco. Dogs love 'em & they're all natural. You can buy a big bag for about $10.

Still haven't found a good all natural food that my dogs will eat consistently. They seem to get bored with the same diet & towards the end of a bag, will stop eating. Walthams from the vet was the best brand I've ever bought...tough to find though.

Another Costco trick - if you have little dogs with sensitive stomachs, buy a big box of instant potatoes. Just add hot water & you've got plain starchy food that will settle their stomachs. Mine love it too!
