Contact the affiliate talk to him and tell him nicely that you won't pay for that traffic. I'm sure you've already considered or done this, but I do agree yahoo selling 'free' spots is fucked up. But shouldn't be a major problem for you.

The least they could've done is put a sponsored link above and leave the free listing intact. I agree with Chief, contact the affiliate and let him/her know those signups won't be paid for.

Nah, I'm fine with wildlinecorp.com getting it. They are a good affiliate.

I SEO'ed those sites myself, so we could get the #1 when you search for one of our sites. Wildline had nothing to do with that. Yahoo selling the #1 spots to affiliates is a very fucked up practice though.

Let's hope that Google doesn't go the same route Yahoo has gone with selling free spots.

jay i wasn't directing that google optimization thing to you, but to the other guy who mentioned getting 10x traffic from yahoo over google. anyone getting that much MORE traffic from yahoo than google needs to work on their google seo.

I don't know, maybe for the same ebay will term you if as an affiliate you promote them on adwords using keywords such as 'ebay'. Now imagine how ebay would feel if their free position that they earnt over the years was being sold to an affiliate. I understand Jay's opinion, if wildline is a good affiliate for him it might be in his benefit to just let them have it, but that's for him to decide.

I've made plenty of money off paysite name traffic. Thing is...I never bought up my competitors natural listings.

If they were sending to another site I would really be pissed. I'm sure Yahoo has terms about doing that.

indeed.. someone should start a site that maintains a list of posts that cause gfy'ers to be blacklisted from sending traffic to. chief and damagex's posts definitely qualify.

For the record I'd pay him for what he had sent so far, but I'd ask him to stop sending from that position.

The only thing that they are really getting is 50% of listings that I should have been getting 100% of. They had nothing to do with the positioning of the domains that I am aware of. In fact, I sacrificed a lot of links to my paysites with no aff code to get these to #1. Now Yahoo sells out half of my hard work?

I don't fault wildline for taking advantage of this. I fault Yahoo for being greedy scumbags.

I can't believe the ones defending the affiliate. Did Yahoo step in it? Yes. However, if the affiliate is aware of this, he's basically buying stolen goods.

Paid listings getting above "normal" listings is something we know about very well in this industry. Yahoo does it too..

Holy shit? What's the price for a paid listing? Do they have to pay per click after that as well or is it a fixed price?

i thought wildline only does paid campaigns? i.e. a sponsor pays wildline $5k and they send 20k uniques through paid spots like that on yahoo.
