Equipment? No matter what networking "equipment" you use, you can not make a 1000 Mbps pipe more than 1000 Mbps or a 250 Mbps peering point more than 250 Mbps.

I'm sure that the guy in the rack next to you is getting exactly the same speed from/on his cogent connection as you are.

Are you in the same building? We can test the speed difference. What I have been talking about is a matter of improving the network efficiency.

If I did something to improve how we handle traffic, you'll see a speed difference. You can have 2 hosting companies one on a pipe slighlty faster than the other, but if the company that is a little slower does something to make up for the performance difference that the other does not, they baiscally would appear to have similar performance. Only difference is once company is saving some serious cash!

Actually, you can add equipment to allow you to exceed the 'natural' speed of your pipe, but equipment must be added to both ends of the pipe.

On the other hand, there is definately equipment you can add to improve the effeciency of an inifficient pipe -- and it only needs to be added on one end.

No, but I'm familiar with it and I actually already compared the speed of your web site with other servers in the same building on the same connection.

AdultWire, you could use compression and other techniques to allow you to send more data in a smaller amount of time but the maximum speed of the actual pipe will not change and as you said, you need to have the equipment or software at both ends.

Yes, you can improve the efficiency of an "inifficient pipe" but "pimpshost" is implying they have been able to get faster speeds using cogent than anyone else using cogent, even faster than using Qwest and AT&T (obviously, one assumes that he is talking about properly configured Qwest and AT&T connections).

Still loads slow to me, but I still think Cogent is great bandwidth for TGP's, Gallery Posters, Free Hosts etc..

It is not improving the performance of the pipe, it is improving the way traffic is handled when it hits us. We handled traffic fine, but added new equipment to improve performance.

It has a lot to do with caching and request handling.

And FYI, everyone that has looked at it today thinks it is fast, except the few skepticals as usual.

i dont think he was implying that, I think he made some tweeks to his setup to help improve his speed, and wanted to show people that Cogent in general isnt bad like most people think...

You know, I actually crawled into the Cogent pipe line, inserted the B1X5 Performance Conversion Kit at the major peering points, increasing our performance triple fold. I have checked it on our x-gigo-nanometer and it appears to be excellerating the fibertronics laser nanoons triple fold.

I am still not sure if the FBI would approve, but it was worth a shot!

Cologroup - I have a proposal for you. I currently have 3 dedicated servers located in what I believe is the same facility as you. Host2Own/Carinet....Each server is hooked up to a 10 mbps dedicated cogent line.

I am now in the market for another new server. Would you be interested in uploading one of my pages to your server? Then I can do an apples to apples test, and run page loading tests from the same 30 locations worldwide that I test my current sites from daily.

I have made some alterations to my servers already to optimize preformance - deactivated keepalive - auto deletion of log files as soon as they hit 50 megs.

Only one customer ever had anything negative to say and he appears to be happy now. All the other horn tooters are just random people starting shit for entertainment. Actually, you'll find more posts of customers saying to host with me then not. We'll no customer has actually said not to host with me.

And as for the name change, I thought the name Hosting.FM sucked from the begginig, so it was just a matter of time before we switched to Cologroup.com. I already had the name before we had the problem in November and all my customers where well informed of what was going on. I even have the same cell number and our billing address never changed. I did not run from anyone and we still have most of our customers because I was upfront.

Our company is solid, we do our best to make sure we have satisfied customers, and I am not going anywhere. I live in La Jolla and I love this place. You can stop by if you live around here or visit the area.

Well, I got your anology, so let me break it down for you....

You are quick to blame the sewage problem at your house on the city's pipes, when it is actually the plumbing in your house. I noticed you are running the default plumbing system which does not work well with the size shit your are trying to flush. And don't worry, you are not alone, you can find this problem in many homes.

The big problem is that since you are just a renter, your landlord would have to upgrade the plumbing. Since your landlord either can't afford this upgrade or does not have the resources to deploy it, your only other option is to find another rental property.

To make this easy, we have lots of rental properties you would be interested. We recently upgraded the plumbing systems on all our properties to handle an extra large amount of shit. This is proven plumbing technology, and we have been flushing shit for quite some time. It really works great.

And one last thing, our rental properties are identical to yours, just about 1/2 the price. Most of our renters spend the money they save on rent to go have fun and drive nice cars.

We where shut down for SPAMing. It was a learning experience and I would have dealt with it better had I known what I know now. Every company is taking SPAM seriously now and I happened to be an example of what can happen if you don't.
