opinions?


i think it wasn't bad. i liked it. i have never attended, but i have always had this vision of it and what it stands for. i don't really think they violated it. it showed that even though you are a "regular" person you can still let loose and have a good time and not feel bad about it. i love that they made the dad into performance art. that was great. they played to alot of the stereotypes that i hear so much about. i think that they put alot of thought and attention to detail into it now that i think about it more and more. i expected a total massacre of something so great. i got to say, as much as i don't want to like it, it was cool to watch it play out and not be disgusted. i guess i will see the year that i am lucky enough to attend. what did you think?

The portrayal was good - over all a good episode

Somehow I don't think an event attended by less than 100,000 in the dry heat is on the same level of the most holy city for a religion of hundreds of Millions.

I would submit that even taking the time to offer a dissenting opinion is a form of respect to the room and the discussion. Writing it off as childish and dismissing it all together would be the true form of disrespect.

As for the show, I was impressed. And I thought it was funny. It did not make fun of Burning Man. It *poked* fun of certain aspects, teased some people, but mostly, it showed respect and showed much more than boobies and crazies on drugs.

I'm happily surprised. The best mainstream portrayal to date.

where actually is the threshold of on a groups (less than 100,00) belief being more qualified or appreciated by society than another, or equal to actulally? that is my question. what if burning man was the next mecca in 200 years, 500 years? is that fathomable to people? burning man is very much like mecca. it is a crusade, annually, very, very much like mecca. you may have chosen a bad example warchld?

My mistake on the playa reference, I never even stopped to think you meant it literally. I should have, it seemed really out of place and that's why I keyed on it. My bad there.

I'll take the time to read your Burning Man Essays later when I have more time. I've enjoyed some of your writings before. Most probably that's because it's a point of view so very different from my own.

I don't know about comparing things to organized religions though. I find all organized and structured religions to be a crutch for the weak. A need to believe in something coupled with an inabillity to think as an individual. I actually have a marked distain for religion. It's the greatest tool the strong use to control the weak. :2 cents:

thats the reason burning man is so bomb. your belief is reality. its a celebaration of individualism. religion is included in that. one thing i do know is that burning man does not try to control anybody, anytime. its just not that way.
