They had a special on either the history channel or the discovery channel about that rig and how they moved it from one location to another.

That is nothing more than an industry size excavator, it digs rocks and coal from stone quaries. I watched the show on the discovery channel that showed what it does and how much it costs as well as a few comparisons with other models. That one in the picture is as tall as 3 statues of liberty stacked on top of each other, it is capable of digging several hundred tons per minute. It was built for speed and convenience. It costs around 500 million dollars to build, a small one around 200 million.
I wish I had a link to show the details, as my memory is vague. I cannot think for the life of me what they called it, but it is an excavator. |
i think that is a coal digging machine moving to a new location in the german rhineland

Folks,
That is what they call a bucket wheel excavator. Its used to dig for coal. In those pics above, the machine is being moved to another pit. Here are more. I think there are currently 4 or 5 of these things around. I know there is alteast more than one. http://img316.imageshack.us/img316/1741/160998678do.jpg http://img316.imageshack.us/img316/7002/160998681oo.jpg http://img316.imageshack.us/img316/913/160998690bq.jpg http://img316.imageshack.us/img316/3600/160998703ex.jpg http://img316.imageshack.us/img316/2596/160998759qh.jpg |
