beating your dog. how nice. too bad you know nothing about training a dog. A dog is going to take your food unless it recognizes you as the dominant pack leader. And beating or hitting your dog doesnt teach him this. A dog doesnt understsand hitting. When your dog does something wrong, you need to grab him, throw him down on his back and hold him there. This is a universally submissive position for a dog to be in. when the dog stops fighting you and looks away, you may let him up. That will be your signal that the dog has recognized you as the dominant pack leader. BUT THAT DOESNT MEAN HURTIN IT WHEN YOU DO THIS. YOU cant blame the dog for doing what it did. It was only acting as its survival instincts told it to. ACTUALLY, it's your fault for not knowing how to properly train your dog........ nice move.

Dogs are very loving animals. they want nothing more than to please their owner. What you did makes the dog feel unloved. It doesnt know what it did to be hurt by you. It may be hiding under the couch, but she still dont know what she did wrong. All she knows is that you hurt her, and she doesnt know why.

When the dog reacts to hitting by cowering down to you, all you aredoing is showing the dog that will hurt it sometimes. But the dog doesnt know why you hurt it. I agree that lightly smacking a dog doesnt constitute abuse. Just like there is a difference in spanking your child, and beating your child. mikey i find that hard to believe that she doesn't know what she did wrong. like the example i made before in a pack of wild dogs the alpha male gets to eat first and the others wait. the way they prove they are the alpha male is when situations like this happen and the alpha male shows he is superior by fighting the other dog until it gives up.

When I go out and leave my dog alone, he is destructive. Goes into bedrooms and eats shit, tears it up. When I come home, he cowers as soon as I walk in the door. I take him to what he's destroyed, yell "Who done this" and then hit him (not smash him, just hit him on the rear leg) I believe he knows why he is being hurt. But then again, he keeps doing it so maybe not.

This is why I have this woman coming, to stop all this shit. He's cost me an easy $1500 this summer in shit he's destroyed. Mainly bed clothing, my shoes and trainers and stuff like that. But I'm gonna talk to her about what you said. This woman is fully qualified in this shit, she works miracles so I'm told. I got references and some of the things some people told me would make my dog look like an angel.

The problem is that he hasnt properly shown the dog in a way the dog UNDERSTANDS that he is dominant over the dog. If he had done it right in the beginning, he wouldnt have this problem now. Yes, the dog will do things likew this to test who's dominant from time to time. understand that a dog is a pack animal like you pointed out. Yet even in a pack where the alpha dog chain has been clearly established, a dog will test its place in the pack from time to time. It's how the hierarchy works. The dog will be afaid if you hit it, but it still wont really recognize you as dominant. ONLY, the method of rolling it onto its back and holding it there TRULY teaches the dog who is boss. and you dont really hurt the dog when you do it this way. :thumbsup

You think putting a dog on its back shows you are more powerful than it? My dog is a Golden Labrador, he's a big fucking boy and I can pin him down. But when I have him on walks, and someone he really likes yells on him he drags me across the street. I'm not small guy either. 6 feet tall and around 190lbs. Not saying this theory won't work, just saying that to me its not all about being able to pin him or show him you are stronger. Its about respecting your owner.
