Classic Micheal Moore Letter To the Monkey Bush

Dear Mr. Bush:

Any idea where all our helicopters are? It's Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted. Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag.

Also, any idea where all our national guard soldiers are? We could really use them right now for the type of thing they signed up to do like helping with national disasters. How come they weren't there to begin with?

Last Thursday I was in south Florida and sat outside while the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed over my head. It was only a Category 1 then but it was pretty nasty. Eleven people died and, as of today, there were still homes without power. That night the weatherman said this storm was on its way to New Orleans. That was Thursday! Did anybody tell you? I know you didn't want to interrupt your vacation and I know how you don't like to get bad news. Plus, you had fundraisers to go to and mothers of dead soldiers to ignore and smear. You sure showed her!

I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don't let people criticize you for this -- after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike?

And don't listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers' budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn't cut the money to fix those levees, there weren't going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them -- BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ!

On Day 3, when you finally left your vacation home, I have to say I was moved by how you had your Air Force One pilot descend from the clouds as you flew over New Orleans so you could catch a quick look of the disaster. Hey, I know you couldn't stop and grab a bullhorn and stand on some rubble and act like a commander in chief. Been there done that.

There will be those who will try to politicize this tragedy and try to use it against you. Just have your people keep pointing that out. Respond to nothing. Even those pesky scientists who predicted this would happen because the water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting hotter and hotter making a storm like this inevitable. Ignore them and all their global warming Chicken Littles. There is nothing unusual about a hurricane that was so wide it would be like having one F-4 tornado that stretched from New York to Cleveland.

No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with this!

You hang in there, Mr. Bush. Just try to find a few of our Army helicopters and send them there. Pretend the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are near Tikrit.

Yours,

Michael Moore

Fletch XXX 09-02-2005 07:39 AM

well to be fair.

it IS DAY 5 and Bush is still saying

"tons of food on the way."

Quote:

New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin lashed out at state and federal authorities saying they were "thinking small" in the face of the massive crisis.

Nagin said he needs military troops to provide security and 500 buses to take people stranded by Hurricane Katrina out of the city.

So far, he said, the promises are unfulfilled.

"I keep hearing that it's coming. This is coming. That is coming. My answer to that is B.S. Where is the beef?"

Nagin called for a moratorium on press conferences "until the resources are in this city."

"They're feeding the people a line of bull, and they are spinning and people are dying," he said.
Quote:

A day before President Bush headed to the hurricane-ravaged South, Mayor Ray Nagin lashed out at federal officials, telling a local radio station "they don't have a clue what's going on down here."

Federal officials expressed sympathy but quickly defended themselves, saying they, too, were overwhelmed by the catastrophe that hit the Gulf Coast region on Monday.

Nagin's interview Thursday night on WWL radio came as President Bush planned to visit Gulf Coast communities battered by Hurricane Katrina, a visit aimed at alleviating criticism that he engineered a too-little, too-late response.

Bush viewed the damage while flying over the region Wednesday en route to Washington after cutting short his Texas vacation by two days.

"They flew down here one time two days after the doggone event was over with TV cameras, AP reporters, all kind of goddamn ? excuse my French everybody in America, but I am pissed," Nagin said.
Day 5 and still just promises.

you would think the United States of America could get help faster than this.

too little too late.

Bush DIRECTLY cut levee funds.

Specifically cut funds that were related to WHERE THE BREACH occured at 17th.

accept the facts

At least nine articles in the Times-Picayune from 2004 and 2005 specifically cite the cost of Iraq as a reason for the lack of hurricane- and flood-control dollars.
Quote:

n early 2004, as the cost of the conflict in Iraq soared, President Bush proposed spending less than 20 percent of what the Corps said was needed for Lake Pontchartrain, according to a Feb. 16, 2004, article, in New Orleans CityBusiness.

On June 8, 2004, Walter Maestri, emergency management chief for Jefferson Parish, Louisiana; told the Times-Picayune: "It appears that the money has been moved in the president's budget to handle homeland security and the war in Iraq, and I suppose that's the price we pay. Nobody locally is happy that the levees can't be finished, and we are doing everything we can to make the case that this is a security issue for us."

if you cant take the piss out of fat people, who can you take the piss out of. I hate that guy, he profits off other peoples misery, then accuses others of doing just that (bush, iraq, oil)

Evan

evanmorgan 09-02-2005 09:23 AM

there is dick all bush can do about this. They send in rescue and aid, they get shot at. The mayor tells everyone to leave, they dont....Bush could have sucked in and blown the hurricane out to sea i guess....

You'll figure it out, possibly.

C-Bass 09-02-2005 09:41 AM

I bet all those New Orleans who voted for Bush are feelin pretty fuckin shitty right about now.

power182 09-02-2005 09:47 AM

Bush deserves this but my question is what is Micheal Moore doing about it besides writting letters. He has money, much of it made off the pain of others, and what is he doing? Its easy to write a letter but it hard to actually do something. He talks the talk now he needs to walk it.

Scott McD 09-02-2005 09:49 AM

I doubt Bush cares... :2 cents:

Not defending Bush, so I won?t even answer that, I was merely pointing out that Moore is not as holy as one may think. He raped (not literally) the victims of Columbine. He even charged them to watch its premier (which he held for them and charged them?). He used many of them for his personal gain and gave back nothing...... That article says nothing about Michael Moore donating, just his investors. That is not his doing.

"One wild card is how much Mr. Moore himself will make via his own profit participation in the movie, which people close to the matter describe as generous. That amountwill be deducted from the take before the Weinsteins and the charities divvy up the rest. Mr. Moore's Los Angeles agent, Ari Emanuel, declined to discuss Mr. Moore's compensation but indicated it would be less than what the charities receive."

Dont give him the credit, Harvey and Bob Weinstein deserve that here they took the risk and gave the donation. I never said anything about the successful should be punished, I dont know where you got that. I just said if you are going to be so critical of others doings you better clean yourself. People who live in glass houses shouldnt throw stones.

Moore is a idiot who may of well could of cost the dems the last election.

I view this as nothing more then a cheap shot.

If he is really so worried about this he would spend more time using his status and money finding ways to contribute to aid rather then using this as a excuse to direct the blame on his favorite person Bush.

I didn't expect Moore to say anything good about Bush did any of you?

Bush can get up and eat breakfast and Moore will point out that Bush is having extravagant feasts while others are starving.

you must be kidding ... or drunk .. or just plain stupid ...

Are you implying that Moore planed and executed the attack for the purpose of gain from his film ...

If not, then he did what FOX ( and others ) did: report the events ...

No wonder Bush got re-elected ...

Yes he did, look at every single "documentry" he has made. The man twists facts to gain viewers and profit from others pain. I personally cant wait until Bush is out of office, one of the reasons being I wont hear about Mr. Moore as much.

Great slide into personal attacks, that was necessary and speaks well of your character. Your opinion is just that, an opinioin like his.

I have a question for you. Do you believe all the "facts" in his movie are true or are some made for entertainment/profit?

lol, yes i believe that moore planned both events, where the hell did you get that from......

All im saying is, he can criticise other people all he wants, but if he does nothing, he isnt anyyyyy better.....infact hes worse, since hes sitting in his big mansion writing witty little pointless letters.
