New Orleans is in direct path. Lets hope she survives.
A direct hit is a potential disaster that the city can't handle. I grew up in Louisiana, I recall all the "close call." However, it is no secret that a direct hit by a storm that dumps a load of continuous rains will create a major disaster in this country.
I love New Orleans, lots of great memories in one of the world's great cities. I hope this one misses, but things look bad. |

Yeah new orleans definitely wont be able to handle this hit, especially since it's so far below sea level. I'm not too far away.. about 45 minutes west of NO.. I hope I don't lose internet access :( |

You leaving? Lake Charles? |
I grew up in Louisiana too and hate to see this shit. Hopefully N.O. won't get flooded to death :(
|
God Bless New Orleans, they are so far under sea level, this can be a city destroyer.

Nope, I'm staying right here. A little rain and highly damaging winds wont hurt, right? :helpme |
You guys should avoid the interstates, if anyone is around this area... I-10 west bound is nothing but bumper to bumper traffic, and I-10 east bound is nothing but trucks from energy companies from all over the state, and national guard/other misc. army guys.

Riding it out (again) an hour east on the coast. :upsidedow
|
new orleans is a shithole. not that baton rouge is much better :(
|
I was supposed to visit in nola this weekend, but the storm delayed out plans. I've got my fingers crossed for our NOLa friends.
|

If you are there or near, I think that it is time to lock up, and flee the area.
|
I remember when the last big one hit... it must have been in 85 or something... I was living in Metairie right by the levee. (big hill to keep water out). Lake Ponchatrain came right up over the levee and flooded our streets badly. They have since raised the levee another 20+ feet... so it should help alot. It's the big lake Ponchatrain just north of the city that will cause the biggest problem if there is a direct hit.
good luck my old friend. marc |
I hope they are wrong and it's not a catagory 4 or 5 when it hits! :( If your in the area, stay safe!
|
it's not looking good for new orleans..
if the people that are paid big money to make predictions are correct, then we'll have 20,000+ dead and no electricity for months.. maybe even years.. supposedly, if the water dumped into our bowl is severe enough.. it will be 6-12 months before it is pumped out. (because of environmental reasons and not pumping capacity) |
i hope Cash Money Records' headquarters makes it :(

We're about an hour northwest of New Orleans and we're not going anywhere. We suspect that a loss of power and some rain will be the worst of it in our area. I'm crossing my fingers for those in the New Orleans area though. Last year when Hurricane Ivan was due to hit, I was extremely disappointed with the New Orleans Emergency Management System. There was a homeless man who roamed the streets near my former job who didn't have any place to go. After calling EMS and being routed and re-routed to different numbers and/or departments, I was eventually told that the local transit bus service would provide free transportation the following morning for those needing shelter. No one at EMS seemed to care that a homeless man had no where to go. Anyway, I gave the man the proper phone number and some money and urged him to get to shelter. *sigh* |

You wonder why no one at EMS gave a shit?? Well EMS stands for Emergency Medical Services.. and since a homeless man is not a medical emergency.. no one gave a shit! NOHD-EMS typically has 8-13 units covering the entire city. People that call in complaining of chest pains or shortness of breath get priority over "a homeless man with no place to go". If you really want to give that homeless bum a $500 tax payer funded ride to a hospital in an ambulance, then tell him to lay on the ground and call 911 and say you see an unconscious nonresponsive man on the sidewalk! |

Or does all that hate blur your vision........ EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM!! She may not have the accronym correct but it dosnt take a genus to work out she wasnt talking abot the ambulance service Idiot |

If she wasn't talking about the ambulance service.. then who was she talking about??? Did she expect the politicians at the Emergency Preparedness Department to really give a shit? Do you work in or run some part of new orleans' emergency response systems? When she saw her homeless man there were two numbers she could call.. one a 565-xxxx .. and that number will get nothing done.. typical government slackers.. the other was 911.. which would activate EMS, Fire, or Police.. and I already described the EMS situation for you. They will run some RTA buses and church vans to take special needs persons to safe areas of refuge. If you can find that number, maybe you can put your name on a list. That number will not be in the phone book under EMS no matter what you think the letters stand for! |

I would have never called Emergency Medical Services to inquire about shelter for a homeless man. I highly respect what you do and know that some people abuse your services. I am not one of them. |
Mrs Lenny2..
Why are you thanking that guy for calling me an idiot? You either misnamed or called the wrong agency to deal with your homeless guy problem. If you called any phone number starting with 565 then you wasted your time!! |

Now untwist your panties and come ride the storm out over here, we'll have a Michael Moore movie marathon on my new 62" TV :1orglaugh :1orglaugh |
