Waylon Jennings DEAD

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2002Feb13.html

It was all about drinkin and fightin. Next to Johnny Cash, he was the fucking man.

Squishy 02-13-2002 05:23 PM

Fuck! That ain't right!

doesn't happen often, but I agree with [Labret]

I'm going to have to break out the old Waylon and Willie stuff and maybe even crack open "16 Greatest Hits"

Trenton 02-13-2002 05:27 PM

Never heard of him.

AaronM 02-13-2002 05:29 PM

Pretty soon all of the Highway Men will be gone. This is a sad day. The new coutry has some good stuff but nothing that compares to these gays. :(

boneprone 02-13-2002 05:31 PM

I think he was Bob Denvers Band Partner.

Nedder 02-13-2002 05:32 PM

an American original, RIP Waylon.

Nz

boneprone 02-13-2002 05:32 PM

Bob Denver or John Denver?

Slick 02-13-2002 05:32 PM

Yeah, Waylon was a great singer. I remember the days of being young listening to my mom jamming his music, talk about a flashback.

R.I.P. Waylon

boneprone 02-13-2002 05:33 PM

Im downloading his music off Morpheus now to see if he was any good.

cameraman 02-13-2002 05:34 PM

Wow, unbeliebable.

Moose 02-13-2002 05:42 PM

On the same page with Labret

This sucks

You guys who dont know who he was..He was the voice in "DuKes of Hazzard" and sang the theme song that might ring a bell. Also escaped death once by giving up his seat on the plane that Buddy Holly went down on,he was the bass player on that tour.

TaDoW 02-13-2002 05:45 PM

how on earth did that character become cool enough to have brett's last name?

That's about right...country is filled with nothing but a bunch of pretty boy fags...LOL

God damn just watch how those fuckers dance...no wonder they're always gay bashing...trying to protect their cover.

eros

Before anyone gets their panties in a wad...I like Jennings, Nelson and Cash...but the new guys are a bunch of fags...lol..I was just having fun with Aaron's Freudian slip :D

SykkBoy 02-13-2002 05:52 PM

everyone knows I'm really into the extreme hardcore metal, punk, etc. but I'm also huge on the old school country:
Johnny Cash (kind of the punk rock cowboy)
Waylon Jennings
Merle Haggard
Marty Robbins
Hank Snow
Johhny Horton
Willie Nelson (recntly saw him in Vegas, still one of the best all around performers/musicians out there)
Tom T Hall
Roy Clark (arguably one of the best all around musicians of all time, forget his Hee Haw days, he plays 10 instruments and plays them all well)

all pure musicians and and great songwriters....

The day Johnny Cash passes on is the day I'll probably be away for the computer for awhile...with endless Johnny in the cd player all day long

[Labret] 02-13-2002 05:53 PM

Sykk took the words right out of my mouth.

evildick 02-13-2002 05:56 PM

Any country singer born in the last 30 years needs to be silenced.

eroswebmaster 02-13-2002 05:58 PM

I think we are all forgetting another great country western singer.
George "No Show" Jones : )

I never ever thought I would see Tom T Hall posted on GFY...especially by SykkBoy :-) What a refreshing site. I don't listen to much stuff that's even remotely country now, but you do have to give respect where it's due. Shit, all of these guys tought me a lot growing up.

These guys were all hardcore...telling it the way it is...and changing a lot of rules in their day...they were recording with Elvis and Buddy Holly before rock and roll existed, they were having fun at the start of it all.

It is a sad day. And like Aaron said, the Highwaymen will all be gone soon. It really sucks...

I have a very hard time believing that I made that typo. I tried to edit it after seeing your post. Thanx for locking us out of the edit feature after an hour John.

^R3K^ 02-13-2002 07:20 PM

This is a sad day.. i learned how to drink to this guys music ;-(((

Grew up listening to his music with my father and grandfather..
it sucks ass

SFBU 02-13-2002 07:31 PM

IMO there never has been and never will be a better country
star than Johnny Cash but Waylon Jennings is undoubtablely
a close second.

Backov 02-13-2002 10:43 PM

That sucks ass. I like Techno, and I like hard stuff... And I hate new country, but Waylon, and Cash and the boys get my respect. I like the old-school country quite a lot.

RIP Waylon, I hope they've got lots of H where you are.

Cheers,
Backov

Amputate Your Head 02-13-2002 11:04 PM

this comes as a HUGE surprise to me.... since I didn't know he was even still alive.

baddog 02-13-2002 11:05 PM

I can not believe that no one mentioned David Allan Coe.

Waylon was among a select few for sure.

SykkBoy 02-14-2002 12:01 AM

hmm, I'd have to add Kris Kristopherson to the list as well...

Backov, my harddrive puked that had that flier, I'll make up a new one and send it over :)

On-top, hell yeah, my old punkband used to cover "Sneaky Snake" from Tom T Hall as well as "Ring Of Fire" from Johnny Cash and "Dang Me" from Merle Haggard...and I just got done listening to "Big Iron" from Marty Robbins...

and Dr. Dre needs to take a listen to Johnny Cash who brags in a song "I shot a man, just to watch him die" that's hardcore ;)

titmowse 02-14-2002 12:12 AM

willie and waylon and the boys were the rebels. they were anti-country in a world of lorretta and conways...y'all don't know shit about country music

sigh...

Nedder 02-14-2002 12:42 AM

Many Sykk, I couldn't agree with you more.

I thought I was the only weirdo that loved hardcore and classic country both. But it's not that unusual, really. The same raw power, honesty and painful truth can be found in both genres.

You've got a great list, I'll add only two more...

Hank Williams Sr.
Lefty Frizzell

Two hard livin' muthers that died way before their time and who were huge inspirations to all the great country singers that followed.

Damn, those all just bring back memories from being a kid. Everyone mentioned here has taught me a little about the meaning of life...

Tom T. Hall said it best..."Son, it's faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, and more money."

Its like blues for pissed off white guys.

Nedder 02-14-2002 01:17 AM

Nobody can do the Indian Love Call like yodeling Mr. Whitman!!

Eddie Arnold, excellent. Any chance for some Jim Reeves?

Indian Love Call? Is that what they're calling that high pitched screaming coming from the jailhouse shower room now?

I saw Slim's son a couple years ago...looks and sounds just like his dad...can't quite hit the high notes like his dad though

I can handle Jim Reeves

in fact, I enjoy country bars (the ones with the old stuff on the jukebox) those little cowgirls are fucking hot in their tight little jeans and denim skirts... ;)))
